From bbc8bfd8e533b85fe0837ce63f16bd402957f4e4 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Nathan Nutter Date: Sat, 10 Oct 2026 22:51:15 -0500 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] Insert the slash when completing structured repo names Structured names such as nnutter/alpha share a prefix with names like nnutter.com. Completion stopped before the slash, so the separator had to be typed by hand. Complete each part on its own so the slash is inserted once that prefix is unambiguous. --- internal/timber/generate_test.go | 116 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ internal/timber/generate_zsh.go | 72 +++++++++++++------ 2 files changed, 166 insertions(+), 22 deletions(-) diff --git a/internal/timber/generate_test.go b/internal/timber/generate_test.go index 196e462..bff865f 100644 --- a/internal/timber/generate_test.go +++ b/internal/timber/generate_test.go @@ -841,3 +841,119 @@ func TestGenerateZshChecksAutoloadHelperCollisionBeforeWriting(t *testing.T) { require.NoError(t, err) assert.Equal(t, "#autoload t", strings.SplitN(string(autoloadContents), "\n", 2)[0]) } + +// TestGeneratedRepoCompletionInsertsSlashInSharedPrefix proves a shared +// owner/ prefix completes with the slash, and a sibling name that diverges +// before the slash (nnutter.com) still completes while the next tab enters +// the slash group. +func TestGeneratedRepoCompletionInsertsSlashInSharedPrefix(t *testing.T) { + t.Parallel() + if _, err := exec.LookPath("zsh"); err != nil { + t.Skip("zsh is not installed") + } + if _, err := exec.LookPath("python3"); err != nil { + t.Skip("python3 is not installed") + } + skipIfNoPty(t) + + repository := newTestRepository(t) + registerAdditionalRepo(t, repository, "nnutter/alpha") + registerAdditionalRepo(t, repository, "nnutter/beta") + + outDir := resolvedTempDir(t) + require.NoError(t, runTimberCommand(t, "generate", "zsh", "--out", outDir, "--force").err) + timberBin := buildTestTimberBinary(t) + + scriptPath := filepath.Join(resolvedTempDir(t), "complete.py") + script := `import os, pty, select, time, sys + +compdir, zdot, home, data_home, worktree_root, bindir, line, tabs = sys.argv[1:9] +want = sys.argv[9] +os.makedirs(zdot, exist_ok=True) +open(os.path.join(zdot, ".zshrc"), "w").write("") +os.environ["ZDOTDIR"] = zdot +os.environ["HOME"] = home +os.environ["XDG_DATA_HOME"] = data_home +os.environ["TIMBER_WORKTREE_ROOT"] = worktree_root +os.environ["PATH"] = bindir + ":" + os.environ["PATH"] + +pid, fd = pty.fork() +if pid == 0: + os.execvp("zsh", ["zsh", "-f", "-i"]) + +def recv(timeout=1.0): + buf = b"" + end = time.time() + timeout + while time.time() < end: + ready, _, _ = select.select([fd], [], [], max(0.05, end - time.time())) + if not ready: + continue + try: + chunk = os.read(fd, 8192) + except OSError: + break + if not chunk: + break + buf += chunk + end = time.time() + 0.2 + return buf + +def send(data): + os.write(fd, data.encode() if isinstance(data, str) else data) + +def wait_for(token, timeout=30.0): + out = b"" + end = time.time() + timeout + needle = token.encode() + while time.time() < end and needle not in out: + out += recv(0.5) + return out + +recv(0.3) +log = b"" +send("fpath=(" + compdir + " $fpath); autoload -Uz compinit; compinit -u -D; unsetopt AUTO_MENU\n") +send("showbuf() { print -r -- BUFFER=[$BUFFER]; }; zle -N showbuf; bindkey '^X^B' showbuf\n") +send("echo COMPINIT_DONE\n") +log += wait_for("COMPINIT_DONE") +send("\x15") +recv(0.1) +send(line) +time.sleep(0.05) +for _ in range(int(tabs)): + send("\t") + time.sleep(0.3) +send("\x18\x02") +log += wait_for(want) +send("exit\n") +recv(0.2) +sys.stdout.write(log.decode("utf-8", "replace")) +` + require.NoError(t, os.WriteFile(scriptPath, []byte(script), 0o644)) + + runComplete := func(line string, tabs string, want string) string { + t.Helper() + command := testCommand(t, + "python3", + scriptPath, + outDir, + filepath.Join(resolvedTempDir(t), "zdot"), + repository.home, + repository.runtime.DataHome, + repository.worktreeRoot, + timberBin, + line, + tabs, + want, + ) + output, err := command.CombinedOutput() + require.NoError(t, err, string(output)) + assert.Contains(t, string(output), want) + return string(output) + } + + runComplete("t repo remove nn", "1", "BUFFER=[t repo remove nnutter/]") + + registerAdditionalRepo(t, repository, "nnutter.com") + runComplete("t repo remove nn", "2", "BUFFER=[t repo remove nnutter/]") + runComplete("t repo remove nnutter.c", "1", "BUFFER=[t repo remove nnutter.com ") +} diff --git a/internal/timber/generate_zsh.go b/internal/timber/generate_zsh.go index 9442f8f..3cdea21 100644 --- a/internal/timber/generate_zsh.go +++ b/internal/timber/generate_zsh.go @@ -479,32 +479,60 @@ _%[1]s() fi return $result else - __%[1]s_debug "Calling _describe" - if eval _describe $keepOrder "completions" completions $flagPrefix $noSpace; then - __%[1]s_debug "_describe found some completions" + # _describe leaves the cursor before '/' when another match shares + # the prefix and diverges there, so 'nn' stays 'nnutter' beside + # nnutter.com.
