This PR adds test-only probes, one knowledge doc and two board entries. Nothing in production code changes.

1. Residue fixed point (tests/residue_fixed_point.rs, D-RESIDUE-FP-0)

The test runs production pearl::hydrate until nothing more changes, then checks:

  • Extra passes over the same evidence leave every bit identical.
  • Re-adding evidence that is already present does not reduce the open relations.
  • New evidence closes only the relation it belongs to.
  • Only bits 59..60 ever change.

2. Maslov Pyramid of Cognition (tests/maturation_ladder.rs, D-MATURATION3-0)

The Maslov Pyramid is the operator's model of how one discovery matures, documented in .claude/knowledge/maslov-pyramid-of-cognition.md. It has eight stages, from 7 (Astonishment) to 0 (Wisdom), with each step earned by an operation that actually ran. It is not Wang's NAL-1..9.

The probe is test-local. It writes the stages into bits 50..52 only under a reading it declares for itself, and every existing edge provenance refuses that reading. The reason is that bits 50..52 are still plasticity: learn reads them, MooreNars16 packs them, and CausalEdgeV3 carries them. Moving them over is an open contract decision for the operator.

  • Generative feedback. Production hydrate reads only the sealed evidence, so a relation it resolves is never reused as a premise (verified in the code). With test-local feedback, which still calls hydrate unchanged, the chain A → B → C resolves without any new observation: open relations drop from 2 to 0.
  • Anchor ablation. Removing anchor A from a copy of the population reopens B and C. The original population is never touched. A relation reaches Wisdom (stage 0) only when removing it has this kind of measurable effect.
  • No self-support.
    • A derived relation carries the union of its parents' evidence roots and adds none of its own. This matches the root-set algebra already used in revision.rs.
    • Two paths built from the same observations count as 2 supports, not 4.
    • Neither a direct cycle nor an indirect one (A → B → C → A) can ground itself.
    • A cycle that is grounded resolves once; 64 further passes add no root.
  • Deeper Astonishment. Without the anchor, the observation "1 → 4 does not hold" contradicts nothing. With the anchor, it contradicts the expectation B. B starts its own pyramid at 7, while anchor A stays at 0. Only counterevidence against A's own relation reopens A.

Measured (release build, this container):

  • mature costs 1.99–2.83 ns median and 3.0–4.6 ns p95, with 0 allocations over 10⁶ transitions.
  • Running the 3-relation fixture to its fixed point takes about 165 ns without feedback and 157 ns with it.

Disable runs: each of the following guards was broken in turn, and every one turned the suite red.

  • Residue test:
    • promote on partial evidence
    • certification moved inside hydrate
  • Maturation probe:
    • a forward result moving the stage backward
    • a derived relation dropping a parent's roots
    • a derived relation adding a root of its own
    • a stage write leaking into W
    • a stage write not clearing the old code
    • Integration with no new inferences
    • Wisdom with no ablation impact
    • an existing provenance accepted
    • a discriminating test that rules nothing out
    • feedback switched off
    • open relations used as premises (both cycle tests)
    • a contradiction routed to the anchor

Still open:

  • Production feedback needs D2 provenance ids.
  • How recipe outputs map to stage-transition inputs is not designed yet.
  • T5 uses a hydration outcome as a weak stand-in for a Pearl trial.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests

    • Added coverage for experimental maturation and residue-resolution behavior, including progression, contradictions, evidence handling, and repeated-pass stability.
    • Added checks that unrelated or duplicate evidence does not change unresolved results, and that changes remain limited to intended edge states.
    • Added measurements for maturation transitions and feedback-based resolution.
  • Documentation

    • Added experimental model notes, test findings, open questions, and known limitations.

Computation alone cannot lower the residue; only new evidence can.
The loop runs hydrate to a fixed point; extra passes and repeated
evidence must change no bit, new evidence lowers the residue only where
it lands, and only bits 59..60 ever move.

The stage-7 name may confuse readers of the probe, but the discrepancy does not block the experimental tests. The change is mergeable with a documentation correction.

A reopened relation could be re-grounded by its own descendants once its
external ground was gone. Test + disable arm added.
