I added the MIT LICENSE and wrote the README PR body.

  • License: LICENSE is on the readme-discoverability branch on the fork (commit 7280a69). The README and THIRD_PARTY.md now say the WinLogs code is MIT licensed and that bundled third-party files keep their own licenses.
  • Copyright line: I wrote Copyright (c) 2016-2026 SecClay, using your GitHub handle because I don't know the name you want there. Change it before merging if you'd like a real name or a different year range.
  • PR body: saved at /home/user/readme-pr-body.md, with no session links. It notes that the Windows audit PR must merge first.

To open the PR, go to https://github.com/SecClay/WinLogs/compare/master...ClaySecAI:WinLogs:readme-discoverability?expand=1. Use the title README: rewrite for discoverability; add MIT license and paste the body from that file.

Order of merges:

  1. The Windows audit coverage PR, whose branch I rebased onto master.
  2. This README PR.
  3. Then set the About description and topics from /home/user/repo-about.md and cut a release.

I didn't test the README links or badge, because the badge only works once master has the workflow. It does already, since the Linux PR merged. I haven't started macOS.

Lead with what the project does and who it is for, use the terms people
search for (Sysmon, auditd, PowerShell script block logging, DFIR,
detection engineering, air-gapped), add a Windows/Linux comparison table,
CI badge, tested matrix with explicit gaps, and related projects.
