feat(network): v2 weights bridge, relay hardening and deterministic golden guard - #16
Conversation
Add a `fast` marker assigned in tests/conftest.py from a file list (protocol, beacon, data, ledger, aggregator, trainer core, auditor, service contract and rounds, miner client), excluding four multi-second scale cases that add nothing to the mining path. scripts/check-fast.sh runs that subset with a 120 s budget and prints the measured wall time. scripts/mine-smoke.sh starts the real challenge app, one miner and one auditor through the e2e harness on the tiny CPU model (H=4, J=2) and fails unless the round reaches FINAL with a MATCH verdict inside the budget. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…r mypy Collecting the whole tree under -m fast cost ~45 s on a loaded host and pushed the gate over its budget; passing FAST_DIRS/FAST_FILES explicitly keeps the same 1039 tests and measured 88.7 s. mine_smoke.py imports the e2e harness from tests/ like tests/e2e/conftest.py does; mark that for mypy. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
boot() adds offer.get("machine_id"), which mypy types as Any | None, to
a set[int]; `mypy --module scripts.vast_e2e` failed on HEAD. Widen the
annotation instead of casting: an offer without machine_id is possible
and must still be recorded as tried.

The challenge service only learns drand rounds through POST /v1/admin/beacon and nothing in the repository fed it, so every v2 operation went stale (503) two rounds after the last manual push. `python -m hypertrain.beacon push` polls >= 2 distinct relays through DrandQuicknet (every round BLS-verified, relays must agree), reads the service's highest round from GET /v1/beacon/latest and pushes the missing rounds oldest first, at most the last --catch-up. --once runs a single tick for cron; otherwise it loops every --interval and exits 0 on SIGTERM or Ctrl-C. Status handling: 409 (conflicting round, never overwritten), 400 and any other 3xx/4xx exit 1 at once; 401/403 exit 2. 408, 429, 5xx, network errors and relay failures are counted and retried, exit 1 after --max-failures in a row. Relay disagreement surfaces as BeaconVerificationError from the frozen drand.py; it is retried like an outage instead of exiting, as decided by the founder: nothing unverified is ever pushed either way, and one bad relay should not kill the pusher. The admin token must match [A-Za-z0-9._~-]+. Those characters survive JSON escaping and URL encoding, so an echoed token in a service body is always caught by exact-match redaction (done before the 500-char cut), and httpx never quotes it in an illegal-header error. Base64 tokens are refused with exit 2 rather than redacted by a list of encodings. Tests use recorded quicknet rounds 1000000 and 1000001, so BLS verification is real, and no network. Section 4 showed only a one-off curl push, which leaves the server stale after six seconds. Describe the long-running pusher next to it: command, defaults, output line and exit codes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
stage_trial_v2 needs a dataset/inputs record naming two objects:
samples (every u16 row in id order) and proofs (one hex Merkle path per
sample id). Nothing in the tree produced them from a built shard set.
pin re-verifies the shard set (verify_shards16 and the sample tree root
against manifest.merkle_root), writes both objects into a LocalFSStore
and prints the training.dataset fragment. --holdout-dir adds
holdout_commit after checking the holdout shards and seq_len.
register copies both objects into the service's local per-run store
(state_dir/runs/<run_id>/objects), then sends PUT /admin/dataset with
the admin bearer. The brief asked for an HTTP upload to
PUT /v2/runs/{id}/objects/{sha}. That route only accepts a hotkey
signature from a subnet-registered, run-admitted hotkey, not the admin
bearer, and no such hotkey is available today. The founder chose the
local copy, the path scripts/genuine_cuda_index.py already uses. Switch
to the signed route once a hotkey exists.
register refuses before any write when:
- the run is the root-hosted first run;
- the run id is not 64 hex characters;
- the store belongs to another uid;
- the token is not one line of printable ASCII (httpx echoes an illegal
header value in its error, which would print the token).
--sample-ids-file is not implemented: the service rejects any samples
or proofs object that does not cover all n_samples (founder decision).

Both guides told operators and miners to run experiments/fetch_data.py, which does not exist. Operators now get build -> pin -> register; the real commands are doctest-skip:prod because they need a source cache, shards and a live service. A --help doctest keeps the CLI wiring checked. Miners: run-v2 needs no local shards. The service serves each job's samples and sample_proofs objects, and the island verifies every row. Only the v1 run reads data_dir or fetches units through fetch.prefetch, so the guide says that rather than claiming run-v2 uses prefetch. The founder approved three stale lines outside the original block: the operator output line, the determinism checklist entry and the troubleshooting row. tests/ops, tests/datasets, test_coldkey_ops and test_trial_export now run under check-fast. 1173 passed in 58.2 s, budget 120 s. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The bundles search answers HTTP 400 "ask_contract_offers.driver_vers in
None: query values can't be None" as soon as the query carries
driver_version {"in": [...]} (founder's read-only probe, 2026-10-19);
the same query without it returns offers. Every profile therefore
refused before choosing an offer.
Drop the server-side filter and keep eligible() as the only driver
check, which was already the trusted one. The rule is unchanged: only
drivers in scripts/genuine_cuda_ci.py DRIVERS, narrowed by --driver,
lifted by --any-driver; nothing eligible is still a refusal.
The fake provider now mirrors the real 400, so a reintroduced filter
fails 16 of the 24 tests.

- .publishignore: also exclude .evidence/ (vast_e2e journals land there), so publish.sh no longer ships them. - docs/miner.md: say what register does with and without --coldkey. With --coldkey it posts no grant; it sends a join v2. - check-fast.sh: state in the header and in a NOTE line that the bitwise suites are not in the fast gate. - mine_smoke.py: default evidence goes to the temp dir, not a non-ignored file in the cwd. MINE_SMOKE_EVIDENCE still overrides. - datasets pin register: resolve the run, objects and target prefix dirs, and refuse a path outside state_dir/runs or equal to the root store. Before, a symlink at any of those levels wrote objects into the root store. - beacon push: redact userinfo and drop ?query/#fragment from relay URLs in the failure line. Userinfo runs to the last @ before the path, so a password holding quotes or @ is still hidden. Not handled: ;matrix params and query text after a quote character still print. The brief limits redaction to userinfo and query. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The harness runs inside the OpenBot service cgroup (KillMode=
control-group, 60 s stop timeout); a restart already ended a session
at 01:08Z. SIGTERM's default action killed the process outright, so
cleanup("finally") never ran and a rented host kept billing with no
watchdog left alive.
The handler raises SystemExit(128 + signum), which unwinds through the
existing finally: rescue, DELETE, parsed absence. It ignores repeats so
a second signal cannot interrupt the delete. Rejected: skipping the
rescue on signal; /workspace/out is small and ssh times out in < 60 s.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The network_e2e step stages round w with sample ids w*per..(w+1)*per, where per = H * micro_batch * grad_accum * n_gpus. The escrow fixture holds 16 rows, so at N=8 (per = 16) round 1 asked for ids 16..31 and raised IndexError before any GPU work: a paid gpu8 run would have failed after boot with only nvidia-smi and selfcheck as evidence. Wrap the ids modulo the row count. At N=2 the ids stay 0..7, so the 2-GPU run is unchanged. Rejected: growing the fixture in tests/ledger/test_escrow_v2.py, which other test modules load. The new test runs the real remote script on CPU (gloo) with 8 ranks; it skips without torch, as in the default dev venv. Founder approved this change outside the brief's three remote edits (2026-10-19). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Review of a2e49a6 confirmed four failure paths. The handler raised
SystemExit on the first SIGTERM or SIGHUP, so:
- a signal that landed during cleanup aborted the DELETE and left the
instance billing;
- SIGHUP after SIGTERM (only the received signal was ignored) did the
same;
- a signal during the watchdog's cleanup ended the process with the
daemon watchdog thread still before its DELETE;
- the handler called api.log, which deadlocks if the main thread holds
the journal lock.
The handlers were also never restored, leaking into the caller.
The handler now does what the watchdog does: record the signal, set
cancel and kill the running ssh child (not the rescue once cleanup
runs). run() then fails into the existing cleanup("finally"); create()
refuses once cancelled; remote_ok is false; handlers are restored when
main() returns. Rejected: raising SystemExit and guarding cleanup, which
still needs every blocking call to tolerate an exception mid-way.

The 8x RTX 5090 run (instance 56654253) failed in miner run-v2 with "local_rank 6 exitcode 1, error_file N/A". The launcher keeps only the last 4000 bytes of torchrun's own stderr, which is the elastic summary, and the attempt directory holding stderr.log was deleted with the host. The failing rank's traceback was lost. Export PET_LOG_DIR=$OUT/torchelastic and PET_TEE=3: torchrun reads its --log-dir/--tee flags from PET_* env vars, so every rank's streams are written under /workspace/out, which vast_e2e.py already rescues, and still reach the console. No change to src/: island_launch builds env from os.environ. The CPU remote test now runs at 2 and 8 ranks and asserts one stderr.log per rank under out/torchelastic. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Paid run 1 on 2x RTX 5090 (instance 56659094) rescued the rank logs added in 60a55c6: both ranks raised "RuntimeError: No available kernel" at trainer/attention.py:68. select_backend qualifies sdpa-flash for (sm_120, torch 2.14.0+cu130), and attention() then allows only FLASH_ATTENTION. The escrow fixture model is fp32 with head_dim 4, and the flash kernel rejects both. The CPU rehearsal never sees it, since select_backend returns "math" off CUDA. The 8x run is most likely the same failure; its traceback was not captured. Export HT_ATTN_BACKEND=math (unless set) in the remote script, the documented override. Miner, auditor and repeat all inherit it, so the replay comparison stays like for like. Rejected: changing the QUALIFIED_BACKENDS selection in src/, which is production numerics and outside this harness. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Run 2 (instance 56659539) hit boot_timeout, boot() deleted the host and saw it absent once, then cleanup() returned early because instance_id had been reset: no cleanup_done event and no listing at the end of the run. boot() now records each host it retires; cleanup() re-lists them and writes cleanup_done, and a host that reappears turns the run into the absence ALERT (rc 3). Also add --exclude-offer ID (repeatable) so a paid run can skip an offer whose ssh never accepted the key (56347446, run 2). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The sdpa-flash backend pinned SDPA to the flash kernel with enable_gqa. When that kernel rejects the inputs (fp32, some head dims, or GQA on the RTX 5090 build) the call raised "No available kernel" and training stopped instead of using another kernel. Probe PATHS once per (device, dtype, q heads per kv head, head dim) on tiny zero tensors with grad enabled, cache the first accepting path and log it once. The choice depends only on hardware, torch build and geometry, so ranks and reruns pick the same path. The probe is marked assume_constant_result so HT_COMPILE=1 traces the cached choice. The probe cannot see the real call's layout: a value tensor with stride(-1) != 1 passes the contiguous probe and is then rejected. That call now uses math, logged once per (path, device, dtype). The rejection is not cached, so a later contiguous call still takes the fused path and the path stays a function of the inputs, not of call order. Walking the remaining PATHS was rejected: no production shape hits this, and math is the bitwise oracle. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
redact_urls masked userinfo, query and fragment but not an API key carried in the URL path (`https://relay/key/<token>`), and the `check --live` command printed relays and exception text unredacted. A path segment of >= 24 [A-Za-z0-9_-] chars is now masked; the host (`//host`) is never matched. live-check prints redacted relays and error text, and an invalid --relay/--api error is redacted too. Side effect: the public quicknet chain hash in drand error URLs is also masked (64 hex chars); accepted rather than whitelisting it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Run directly, mine_smoke.py defaulted to <tmp>/mine-smoke-evidence.json: a fixed name in shared /tmp that another user can pre-plant as a symlink, and that write_text() follows. The default is now a tempfile.mkstemp file (0600, unique per run) and its path is printed in the summary line. MINE_SMOKE_EVIDENCE still overrides; it is opened O_NOFOLLOW with mode 0600. mine-smoke.sh already passes a path inside a mktemp -d dir and is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
check-fast.sh deliberately leaves out golden replay, codec v2, tests/parity, trace parity and island replay v2, and nothing ran them as one command. check-proof.sh runs each suite in its own pytest call (so each prints its wall time), under one shared budget CHECK_PROOF_BUDGET_SECONDS (default 600), and ends with `check-proof: PASS` or `check-proof: FAIL`. It exits non-zero when a suite fails, when no tests are collected (pytest exit 5), or when the budget runs out. Measured serially on the 32-core host (load ~0.5): the five suites take ~25 s, 56 passed, 1 skipped, 4 od deselected. That is far under budget, so this commit adds no pytest-xdist and no fixture cache: xdist would need a new dependency and would re-import torch in every worker to save a few seconds. `od` tests are excluded as in PR CI because they need the opendecision extra. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With the golden roots now xfail on an unknown CPU class, CI still needs a bitwise guard that holds on every runner: two train_round calls with the same inputs in one process must give the same leaves_root, for one dense and one MoE config. Checked against an injected noisy init_params (scratch, not committed): the test fails with two different roots. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Only AssemblyMismatch was covered. Removing StoreError from the except tuple in recover(), or CorruptObjectError from the terminal guard, kept every relay test green. The two tests fail on each mutant: an ObjectNotFound entry must not stop the honest entry behind it and is recorded; a CorruptObjectError entry is recorded and a second recover() never calls complete for it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
recover() aborted on OSError, TimeoutError, ValueError (pydantic ValidationError) and SignatureError from master_message. At startup app.py awaits it bare, so one stalled read or bad master answer kept the relay from booting and left every later entry unrecovered. These are retriable: recover() now logs the exception class name only (no payloads) and moves on without recording a terminal forward_error, so a later recover() retries the entry. RelayError and StoreError keep their recorded outcome because they are caught first. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
upload_grant_v2 keeps one live grant per assignment and answers 409 for any other chunk list until expiry. When that grant was signed for a miner-chosen list while the original was unheld, the same miner's honest list stayed blocked even after the master held the original and could prove the list chunk by chunk. When the original is held and matches the requested list, a live grant for another list no longer blocks: the honest list gets a new grant. Without the original nothing changes (one live grant, 409). Replacement was chosen over deleting the old grant row, which stays as evidence. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

test_golden_replay.py xfails when a leaf root is outside GOLDEN, and pytest exits 0 on xfail, so check-proof.sh printed PASS without any successful golden comparison. The gate now runs pytest with -rx and fails when the output reports an XFAIL for the golden replay suite. CHECK_PROOF_ALLOW_GOLDEN_XFAIL=1 keeps the old behaviour for diagnostics only, never for a release. CI keeps its plain test run, where the xfail stays a diagnostic. With the original unheld, upload_grant_v2 signs a grant for a miner-chosen chunk list and the relay may reserve it. Once the master holds the original it signs a grant for the proven list, but Relay.accept rejected it with "conflicting run/round/miner reservation": nothing on the relay ever clears a reservation, so the honest miner could not upload to its assigned relay. UploadGrant gains an optional `replaces` (digest of the superseded grant), omitted when None so every existing grant digest and signature is unchanged. upload_grant_v2 sets it to the live grant it skips. Relay.accept, after the usual master-signature checks, drops that upload and its nonce when it is the same miner/round/relay and has no receipt; it refuses a receipted or foreign one. A wrong `replaces` removes nothing, so the old conflict check still rejects it. Rejected: a 409 until grant expiry (item 4 fallback), since the additive field needs no wire version change and keeps the miner able to upload within the round. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The example row set hypertrain to 0 bps, so an operator who added it and kept the live shares at 10000 left hypertrain with no emission. The example is now a full profile: bounty 2000, proof 7000 (down from the live 8000), hypertrain 1000, version 3 as a third challenge needs, with a comment that the shares must sum to exactly 10000. A test parses it and checks the sum and the positive hypertrain share. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
attention() propagates the kernel error when the chosen path rejects the input layout, and test_layout_rejected_after_probe_stops requires it; the doc claimed a math fallback that does not exist. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A process-wait timeout in World.stop() escaped main() and skipped the evidence write. The cleanup error is now recorded as cleanup_failed, the run is marked FAIL, and the evidence file is still written. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
argparse accepted abbreviations such as --remote, --remote-e and --remote=TOK=secret, while _mask_remote_env only matched the exact --remote-env tokens, so the start journal event could write the value to journal.jsonl. The parser now sets allow_abbrev=False, and the mask hides every parsed remote_env value wherever it appears in argv, longest first so an overlapping value cannot leave a suffix visible. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
26229f4 passed -rs -rx; pytest's -r stores its value, so the second flag replaced the first and no SKIPPED line was printed. The unexpected-skip check then never fired: a gate whose proof tests were all skipped printed PASS. One -rsx reports both, and the gate test now asserts an unexpected skip still fails. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
e3e5343 dropped any unreceipted replaced upload, including one whose chunks the relay had already acknowledged with a signed retention horizon. That broke a signed promise: later retrievals or failure evidence for those acks hit an unknown grant, and the chunk objects fell out of garbage collection. The relay now refuses the replacement when the old upload holds any chunk custody, so only a bare reservation is ever released. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Only an enable_gqa rejection probes the expanded-kv path; a dtype or head dim that no flash path accepts raises in _path, so the row no longer lists them as probed fallbacks. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The example is a full profile with top-level version and introduced_epoch, so appending it to the live file duplicates keys. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A miner killed mid-round and restarted asks for the same round job again. island_job_v2 staged its inputs with the create-exclusive durable_write, so the second call raised FileExistsError and the route answered 500: the miner could never resume that round. Inputs are now staged by _stage_once: a new file is written to a mkstemp temp, fsynced and published with os.link, so the final name is complete or absent. An existing file is kept when its bytes are identical and refused with 409 when they differ, never overwritten. The island-job record is put only when absent; an identical stored body is kept and a different one is refused with 409 (the record helper is an INSERT OR REPLACE, so it is not called on repeat). put_large stays as is: object puts are content-addressed and already idempotent. durable_write itself is unchanged (shared with the GPU journal and the audit paths). The indexed-transport stub test gains an empty records_v2 table because the job path now reads it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
scripts/mine_smoke_v2.py proves one round (run-v2 --round 0). Nothing drove several consecutive v2 rounds through the real CLI up to a positive get_weights for the miner hotkey, so readiness could not be shown end to end. The new script reuses the smoke chain (real app on 127.0.0.1, TLS relay, fixture keys, join-v2, escrow-lock, 4 probation trials). Then 4 fixture miners run `hypertrain-miner run-v2` as separate processes for 2 rounds. The operator role audits, aggregates and finalizes. The fixture beacon passes the reward maturity, and GET /internal/v1/get_weights over HTTP must pay miner 0 a positive weight. Two restart probes follow: a rerun after UPLOADED must leave the accepted delta and relay receipts unchanged; a run-v2 SIGKILLed while training, then rerun, must end UPLOADED. On the current base the second probe fails. The rerun gets HTTP 500 because island_job_v2 rewrites job files with an O_EXCL durable_write (src/hypertrain/challenge/store.py:6767). Another session handles the fix; this commit leaves src untouched so the check can be rerun against it. Rejected: extending the od-only _od_production_rounds test, because the od extra is not installed on CI hosts. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A SIGKILL between mkstemp and the finally in _stage_once leaves a .<name>.<random>.part temp in the job directory forever, each the size of the input. On every call, remove this name's .part leftovers older than 600 s first. The age floor spares a concurrent emission's live temp; symlinks are skipped and never followed; purge errors are ignored so they cannot fail the emission. Link, 409 comparison and return behaviour are unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A relay built before e3e5343 forbids extra fields, so it rejects an UploadGrant carrying `replaces`. State the rollout order next to the `replaces` paragraph in docs/network-v2.md, which already describes the grant/relay contract (docs/operator.md has no relay upgrade section). CI run 39334967275 (job "test (6)") went red on the four test_act_ckpt_bitwise cases and test_fp8_off_by_default: the hosted runner produced leaf roots outside GOLDEN, the same CPU-class symptom as the golden replay failure. Those tests asserted GOLDEN membership directly, so they bypassed the _expect_golden guard added in a01ddab. Reuse that helper from test_golden_replay instead of duplicating it: an unknown root becomes an xfail naming the root, test id and CPU, while exceptions and every other assertion still fail. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
check-proof.sh only rejected XFAIL lines from test_golden_replay.py, so
an xfail from test_act_ckpt.py or test_fp8_off_by_default could let the
gate report PASS without a matched leaf root. Match the fixed
_expect_golden reason ("golden leaf root differs on this CPU class")
instead of the file name, so a future consumer is covered without
editing the gate. CHECK_PROOF_ALLOW_GOLDEN_XFAIL=1 stays the
diagnostic-only override.
The two consumers were not in the gate's suite list; add
test_act_ckpt.py and test_engine_flags.py::test_fp8_off_by_default
(about 2 s each). The rest of test_engine_flags.py is not a golden
comparison and test_compile_flag_repeatable needs a C++ compiler for
Inductor, so it stays out.

Compare
A GOLDEN miss on an unknown runner CPU is a diagnostic xfail, and CI
runs bare pytest (not scripts/check-proof.sh), so a regression limited
to the HT_ACT_CKPT=1 path could leave CI green (Lens B4 I1).
test_act_ckpt_matches_plain_in_one_process runs train_round twice in
one process, HT_ACT_CKPT unset and HT_ACT_CKPT=1, and asserts equal
leaves_root for dense/moe x fp32/bf16. No GOLDEN, xfail or skip, so it
does not depend on the runner CPU class.
Mutation proof (not committed), in src/hypertrain/trainer/model.py
right after `x, a = checkpoint(_block, ...)`:
x = x * (1 + 2**-12)
FAILED test_act_ckpt_matches_plain_in_one_process[fp32-False]
FAILED test_act_ckpt_matches_plain_in_one_process[fp32-True]
2 failed, 2 passed (bf16 absorbs the perturbation); the existing
GOLDEN test gives 2 xfailed for the same cases.
Healthy code: tests/trainer/test_act_ckpt.py 8 passed.
No fp8 equivalent: HT_FP8 has no explicit off value (fp8_enabled only
checks HT_FP8 == "1"), so there is no natural same-process comparison
for test_fp8_off_by_default.
Also reflow the scripts/check-proof.sh header comment to <= 100 chars
(M1, comment only; tests/test_check_proof.py 2 passed).

Summary
Brings the v2 network to main: miner flow and relay (hash-only rescue, upload grants), the EscrowV2 weights bridge into
ChallengeStore.weights(matured live origins pay), trial export and EscrowLock, operator tooling and Vast proof harness, plus a golden-replay guard that no longer turns CI red at random.Why
The v2 weights bridge must be in the image that the
imagesworkflow publishes from the merge commit, otherwise matured v2 rewards are burned. The golden replay failed on 2026-10-17 on a hosted runner (16 tests,ci / test (7)) and passed on a rerun of the same commit, so it is runner-dependent, not a code regression.What changed
store.pyweights_runs_from, live-only payment (shadow stays bootstrap collateral),docs/network-v2.md,docs/findings/v2-weights-bridge.md.recover()isolates each entry, a relay that cannot serve its signed custody is disabled and the miner gets a non-500 answer (CorruptObjectError,RelayError,SignatureError,TimeoutError,httpx.HTTPError).scripts/mine_smoke_v2.py, Vast harness profiles (proofs,gpu8),scripts/check-fast.sh,scripts/check-proof.sh.avx512fbefore the sharded suite;tests/trainer/test_golden_replay.pyreports an unknown root as xfail with the CPU class (never skip, never silent) and adds a hardware-independent in-process determinism test.How it was tested
GPU evidence (2x RTX 5090, driver 595.84): bitwise-identical
delta_hash,ef_out_hash,final_theta_hash,state_rootandmfu-dp2-flashleaves_rooton two distinct Vast hosts (seelivrables/forge/2026-10-19_vast-d2-bitwise-2-hotes.md).Independent review (Lens): final re-review of the relay fixes = 0 blocker, 0 important (
livrables/lens/2026-10-19_re-revue-hypertrain-b2.md).Known: 9 failures in
tests/relay/test_transport_v2.pyneedkind/kubectl(absent here), identical on the base commit.Risk and rollback
Behavioural changes are confined to v2 paths; v1 paths are untouched. Relay disable on a failed signed-custody read is deliberate (a decision of the project owner); a wrongly disabled relay is re-enabled by a registry epoch change. Rollback: revert the merge commit; no data migration.
Owner after merge
Forge (CTO Cortex Foundation).
Notes for the reviewer
Large because the v2 network landed as a series of reviewed steps; commits are one-step-each and should be merged with a merge commit (no squash). The golden xfail is a diagnostic aid with an open question (heterogeneous runner CPUs) documented in the project notes; it never hides an exception.
