Vertex work on the GPU, lifter fixes for the game-window freezes, CEF window docs - #15
On a Radeon 780M, NosVille ran at 4 fps (258 ms/frame). Of that, 160 ms was fetch() transforming and lighting vertices on the CPU, and 65 ms was uploading the results. The Halloween map draws about 1M triangles a frame. Almost all of them are lit, indexed draws from static vertex buffers: 2.9M index references and 1.9M distinct vertices per frame.
Draws from a vertex buffer now go through gl_buffer_draw:
Each vertex and index buffer is uploaded to GL once, and again after a Lock without D3DLOCK_READONLY. +56 is the dirty flag, as it is for textures.
The world/view/projection, texture matrices, viewport, fog, material and active lights go in one constants block per draw. A block identical to the previous one is reused.
A vertex shader generated per layout key does what fetch() does: lighting, fog, camera-space texgen, texture transforms (projected or not), and the viewport and half-pixel mapping.
Pretransformed vertices, DrawPrimitiveUP, dynamic or locked buffers, and the F9 frame dump keep the CPU path.
The GPU path is used only when the WebGL renderer is a real GPU. Under SwiftShader it made Chicken Farm Path about 15% slower (265 vs 230 ms/frame), so software renderers stay on the CPU path. The log says which path was chosen (render: WebGL2, vertices on the GPU|CPU).
Screenshots from the same NosVille position match: geometry, lighting, fog and minimap. No GL, shader or link errors. Chat still works.
Game-window freezes (lift.py)
Opening the character-info window (P) stopped the client with FATAL: no recompiled code for guest address 0065f25e, and later windows stopped at 005b2fe0.
absorb_gaps skipped any 8B or C0 byte as alignment padding. A routine starting with mov eax, [eax + n] (8B 80 …) right after a function was therefore decoded from its second byte. The misaligned fragment then owned the real routine's instructions, so the getters at 0x65f258, 0x65f718 and so on were never entry points. Only whole mov eax, eax (8B C0) pairs count as padding now: skip_padding.
reloc_code_seeds now also accepts an aligned relocated pointer to push ebx/esi/edi; mov <reg>, eax/edx/ecx, the prologue of a method that keeps Self. The handler at 0x5b2fe0 sits after a string literal and was only reached through its method pointer.
The lift goes from 19,228 to 19,237 functions, and coverage stays at 90.4%. In the cloud on Chicken Farm Path, i, c, k, p, l, f and m now all open in turn without a FATAL.

docs/STATUS.md: the empty window after the first NPC dialogue is the tutorial's web t01_basicmove step (tutorial.dat script 1, step 20), not the Game Guide. The rendering paragraph now describes both vertex paths.

Walkthrough
The WebGL2 backend adds GPU vertex processing for eligible buffered draws and changes frame delivery to support direct canvas rendering and shared pixel slots. The changes also update Delphi routine discovery, inline non-REP string helpers, Web linking, and rendering and CEF status documentation.
Changes: GPU vertex-buffer rendering
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Set up GPU vertex processing recomp/port/render_gl.inc, docs/STATUS.md
The backend adds specialized vertex shaders, GPU buffer tracking, and per-draw constants. The status describes which draws use GPU or CPU processing.
Record and execute buffer draws recomp/port/render.c, recomp/port/render_gl.inc, recomp/port/hle_d3d9.c
Draw entry points offer eligible draws to the GL backend. The backend records draw metadata and constants, uploads stale buffers, and uses CPU processing when a draw is unsupported.
Present frames to the page recomp/port/port.h, recomp/port/hle_d3d9.c, recomp/port/render_gl.inc, recomp/port/web.c, recomp/web/index.html, recomp/web/worker.js, recomp/wasm/compile_all.py
The Web path supports direct canvas rendering and shared pixel-slot delivery. The page and worker handle canvas transfer, pixel slots, frame status, and screen dimensions. Web linking adds -sJSPI.
Delphi routine discovery
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Update prologue detection and gap scanning recomp/lift.py
Aligned prologue detection accepts specified register-saving mov instructions after an initial push. Gap scanning recognizes padding and skips mov eax, eax only as a complete instruction.
The non-REP move, store, and load helpers are now inline implementations. They update ESI and EDI according to operand size and the direction flag.
CEF status documentation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Revise the CEF status entry docs/STATUS.md
The entry identifies tutorial web steps, including t01_basicmove, as another case where an unloaded browser leaves an empty window. It retains the Game Guide on F11.

An incremental native build after this change can fail to link until a full rebuild is run. The web client now requires JSPI-capable browsers, and the game loop can pause when the tab is hidden. These are bounded, with workarounds, but should be addressed or explicitly accepted before merge.

…a GPU
Vertex and index buffers are uploaded to GL once, and again after a writable
Lock; the matrices, material and lights travel as uniforms and a vertex
shader generated per layout does what fetch() does. Pretransformed, UP,
dynamic or locked draws keep the CPU path, and so does every draw under a
software rasteriser, where the shader path was slower on small maps.

The gap absorber skipped any 8B or C0 byte as padding, so a routine starting
'mov eax, [eax + n]' (8B 80 ...) right after a function was decoded from its
second byte. The misaligned fragment then owned the real routine's call, and
the character-info window died on 'no recompiled code for 0065f25e'. Only
whole 'mov eax, eax' pairs count as padding now.
A relocated pointer to 'push ebx; mov ebx, eax' (a method keeping Self) is
now an entry too. One window's handler, placed after a string literal, was
otherwise missed (0x5b2fe0).

Each run's vertex-shader constants go up in one uniform buffer and every
draw binds its range, instead of a uniform call per draw that filled the
GPU process's command buffer. Frames reach the page through four reused
shared-memory slots, read through pixel buffers a frame late, instead of
an ImageBitmap per frame that stayed in GPU memory until garbage
collection. Textures keep their storage across uploads, and a vertex
buffer with a stride the GPU path cannot express falls back to fetch().

Binding a range of a uniform buffer per draw made the D3D11 backend copy
a constant buffer each time, which cost Chicken Farm Path most of its GPU
frame. Each run's constant blocks now go into a float texture, two
frames' worth used as a ring, and every draw only names its row.

The constants texture's row ring shared its counter with the stream
vertex buffer's byte offset, so each corrupted the other. Frames are now
fetched from three pixel buffers two frames after they are read, and
single string moves are inlined into the generated code.

The page hands its canvas to the worker with transferControlToOffscreen, and
Present yields to requestAnimationFrame (JSPI) so the browser shows each frame
itself. This removes the per-frame readPixels/getBufferSubData copy; the
shared-slot path stays as the fallback when the canvas cannot be handed over.

…note JSPI
The native build now treats every generated object older than rt.h as
stale, since generated code inlines the runtime's string helpers. The
direct-canvas frame wait also ends after 100 ms so a hidden tab, which gets
no animation frames, keeps the game running. The README states the JSPI
requirement of the browser build.
