Review comments at @crates/cardwire-config/Cargo.toml:

Review comments at @crates/cardwire-core/Cargo.toml:
- Around line 15-20: Separate cardwire-core’s plain contract types from its

and cardwire-ebpf-userspace optional. Ensure cardwire-dbus and cardwire-cli
build without hardware dependencies, while cardwire-daemon enables the hardware
feature and retains the existing discovery modules.
Review comments at @crates/cardwire-daemon/src/interface/mode.rs:
- Around line 233-236: Update set_mode’s error handling around internal_set_mode
so errors downcast to fdo::Error preserve their original variant, including

LoggerInterface.report_logs and process_blocked_changed. Use a daemon-layer
callback or channel for successful app discovery, wire the existing

succeeds; keep cardwire-smart free of zbus dependencies.
Review comments at @crates/cardwire-smart/src/types.rs:

path removes comm from pending_discoveries before returning. Move the db_cache
insertion into the Ok(true) branch only; leave Ok(false) uncached, and return
the captured operation outcome after cleanup.
- Around line 205-219: Update evaluate_process to normalize the process key once
by stripping Nix wrappers and lowercasing comm, while preserving the Steam AppId
override; pass this same process key to both is_process_in_db and discover_app
so discovery uses the normalized or Steam-derived identifier.

Move the six copies of the GPU proxy construction into one helper.
get_gpu_device, block, set_block, lsof, power_state, env, and launchable all repeat the same CardwireGpuProxy::builder(...).path(format!("/org/opengamingcollective/cardwire/Gpu/{}", id))?.build().await? sequence. The object-path format is also hard-coded in main.rs::get_gpu_list and in the daemon. Put the path prefix in one place (preferably cardwire-dbus, next to CardwireGpuProxy) and use one helper to build the proxy.
Also, DaemonClient keeps a generic Proxy for the non-existent interface "org.opengamingcollective.cardwire". The client uses that proxy only through .connection(). Store the &'a Connection directly instead.

Declare the typed setters as D-Bus properties.
client.set_mode() now uses CardwireModeProxy, but its set_mode declaration in crates/cardwire-dbus/src/mode.rs Line 12 lacks #[zbus(property)]. The daemon exposes set_mode as a property setter, not a SetMode method. The same mismatch affects the changed GPU block calls through crates/cardwire-dbus/src/gpus.rs Line 35 and configuration setter calls through crates/cardwire-dbus/src/config.rs Lines 11, 16, 20, 25, and 30. These CLI commands fail with an unknown-method error instead of changing the requested value. Mark those proxy setters as properties so they use D-Bus property writes. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Remove the unused analyzer dependency and decouple persistence from D-Bus types.
cardwire-config does not use cardwire_analyzer. Remove this dependency.
read_db returns DbusAppMetadata, which derives zvariant::Type. This makes the persistence layer depend on the D-Bus representation. Consider introducing a transport-neutral type that includes gpu_policy, then convert it to DbusAppMetadata at the daemon boundary. Do not replace it directly with AppMetadata, because AppMetadata does not contain gpu_policy.

Use the correct file label in the gpu_state.json serialization error.
CardwireGpuState::save_state serializes gpu_state.json. The error variant labels the failure as "mode.json". An operator who reads this error will look at the wrong state file.

Separate the shared contract types from the hardware-probing code in cardwire-core.
cardwire-core contains plain contract types (Modes, GpuType, AppMetadata, SystemType). It also contains the hardware-discovery modules (gpu::enumerator, gpu::generic::vulkan, gpu::vendor_specific::*, gpu::inode). Because of this, the crate depends on vulkano, khronos-egl, libdrm_amdgpu_sys, nvml-wrapper, tokio, and cardwire-ebpf-userspace.
cardwire-dbus depends on cardwire-core. cardwire-cli depends on both crates. As a result, the CLI now compiles and links the whole Vulkan, NVML, libdrm, and eBPF dependency tree only to get Modes, GpuType, and DbusPciDevice. The GUI will have the same problem when it moves to these crates, which is the stated goal of this PR. The CLI does not use any of these dependencies, but it still pays for them in build time and binary closure size. It can also fail to build in environments where these system libraries are not available.
Use one of these fixes:
- Move the hardware modules behind a Cargo feature (for example
hardware, enabled bycardwire-daemononly). Make the heavy dependenciesoptional = true. - Split a small
cardwire-typescrate (serde + zvariant only). Makecardwire-dbusandcardwire-clidepend only on that crate.

Keep the original fdo::Error variant when set_mode fails.
apply_mode returns fdo::Error::NotSupported when the requested mode is not available on the system. internal_set_mode now returns anyhow::Result, and set_mode maps every error to fdo::Error::Failed. D-Bus clients can no longer tell an unsupported mode apart from an internal failure. The old code special-cased FdoError for this reason. Downcast the error before the fallback.

Reject negative policy values.
The check policy > 2 accepts negative values. The removed GpuPolicy::try_from_i32 validation rejected them. A D-Bus caller can now store a negative value such as -1 in app_policies and in the cache. GpuPolicy::from_i32 silently maps that value to Blocked. read_db returns the invalid value to the GUI.

Restore report handling and new-app notifications in the smart-analyzer path.
SmartAnalyzer::run consumes only the exec ring. It does not consume CW_REPORT_EVENTS, so blocked-process reports never reach LoggerInterface.report_logs or process_blocked_changed.
The analyzer also receives no event channel or callback. The Ok(true) database-insert branch only logs discovery. It does not notify new_app_added, while run_analyzer only clones _new_app_signal and never uses it.
Add report-ring handling and route decoded reports to the logger queue and signal. Add a callback or channel for successful app discovery, and emit new_app_added after the database insert succeeds. Keep cardwire-smart independent of zbus by performing signal emission in the daemon layer.

Use one normalized process key for lookup and discovery.
evaluate_process lowercases comm and applies the Steam AppId override for the database lookup, but it passes the raw comm to discover_app. discover_app strips Nix wrappers and performs an exact lookup. XDG executable keys are stored in lowercase. Therefore, wrapped or mixed-case executable names can miss discovery or fail to match an existing policy. When SteamAppId is set, discovery can also skip the Steam branch because it receives the executable name instead of steam_app_<id>.
Normalize the key once and use it for both operations.

Release the pending_discoveries entry on every path, and cache only when the insert succeeds.
insert_to_db returns early when a send error or a receive error occurs. The pending_discoveries entry is then never removed, so later discovery attempts for that binary return early at line 271 forever. The function also caches GpuPolicy::Blocked on Ok(false). Ok(false) covers a duplicate desktop_file_id and a DB write failure. In both cases the cache gets a key that has no row in app_policies. set_app_policy then passes its contains_key check, and update_policy fails with QueryReturnedNoRows.
