  • Avoid deprecation warning with astropy>=8 #991

  • Allow multiplicative operations (multiply, divide) between cubes with non-equivalent units, e.g. a Jy/beam cube and a dimensionless (unitless) cube. Additive operations still require equivalent units. #1011

  • Fixed several cases where operations silently upcast float32 cubes to float64, doubling their memory footprint: to() (unit conversion) on SpectralCube, VaryingResolutionSpectralCube, and LowerDimensionalObject, and any operation built on apply_function_parallel_spatial/apply_function_parallel_spectral (e.g. convolve_to, spatial_smooth, spectral_smooth), which always allocated a float64 output buffer regardless of the input dtype. VaryingResolutionSpectralCube.convolve_to had the same issue in its own output buffer allocation. #995

  • Fixed Projection.convolve_to (i.e. convolving a single cube slice/plane) silently omitting the Jy/beam scaling by the change in beam area that SpectralCube.convolve_to already applies, which could produce incorrect values. #1016

  • Fixed get_mask_array() raising AttributeError on a cube with no mask attached (e.g. one with no blanked/NaN values on read); it now returns None, consistent with how a missing mask is already handled elsewhere. #1014

  • Fixed the -dev tox test factor silently installing released astropy/numpy/pyerfa from PyPI instead of the intended dev/nightly builds: uv does not read the pip-style PIP_EXTRA_INDEX_URL env var the nightly indexes were configured through, and even once pointed at the right indexes (via UV_INDEX), uv does not implicitly allow pre-release versions the way pip does, so it kept selecting the latest released version. #994

  • Fixed: DaskSpectralCube.spectral_interpolate was building the output mask in opposite spectral order from the data when the spectrum was reversed #1018

  • Fixed the progress bar being hardwired for ray-wise spectral operations, fixed and tested use_memmap=False for parallel convolve_to (now warns instead of silently running serially), added a disable_huge_flag to prevent multiple memmaps from being used in parallel with joblib, and documented selecting the memmap directory via memmap_dir in big_data.rst. #973

  • Added a backend keyword to apply_function_parallel_base/ apply_function_parallel_spatial/apply_function_parallel_spectral (and therefore convolve_to, spectral_smooth, etc.) to choose the joblib Parallel backend ('loky', 'threading', 'multiprocessing'). #973

@e-koch I've now removed the Jy/beam conversion factor fix we had here (since it's now fixed in radio-astro-tools/spectral-cube#1017), and moved from a strict pin to >=. There's also some tidying up to do on unitless_filled_data[:] since we can now multiply by unitless cubes, but I think that should be a separate PR. Good to merge?
