fix(query-db): keep a reacquired Query's rows across an older release - #2206
Conversation
A released Query keeps an empty ownership entry until its release publishes, so unpublished metadata cannot restore it as an owner. The already-applied guard and the on-demand direct-write skip read that entry as an applied result. A stale Query reacquired while its release was held therefore skipped its cached result, owned nothing, and lost its row when the release published; a failed refetch never restored it. Mark a release's entry and let only an applied entry satisfy those two readers. Add oracle coverage for stale reacquisition (refetch outcome, placement, peer), published owners after a lease claims a released row (including a reacquired lease without cached data), the reacquired cache patch behind a refresh barrier, an accepted direct insert through a refetch start of an empty result, and a failed release commit. history coverage for reacquisition during a held release, commit failure before

…llback The result-application rollback snapshot cloned the Query's ownership entry, so restoring it after a failed application would drop the mark on a released Query's entry. Snapshot the entry by reference; application replaces the entry instead of mutating it. No reached history restores a marked entry, so no witness distinguishes this change. Add a witness for a reacquired lease whose durable commit fails after a held release, and record the CodeRabbit review ledger. Co-authored-by: Isaac <no-reply@databricks.com>

Extend the reacquired lease table to results with one or two rows and to zero, one, or two peer leases (42 cells). On the original defect a row only the reacquired lease owns disappears at publication, and a shared row disappears when the last peer leaves. Update the review record and coverage map: the cleanup-skip mutant is killed by the retention cleanup test in tests/query.test.ts, CR-1's remaining route is a duplicate-key replay inside the reacquired application, and the managed Node SQLite path drops a released row from the public Collection when its durable delete fails, unlike the controlled adapter. Co-authored-by: Isaac <no-reply@databricks.com>
Later probes showed the divergence is not specific to the managed path: the Node SQLite adapter drops the row from the public Collection on every sync-present configuration tried, including without Query DB, while the controlled adapter keeps it. Co-authored-by: Isaac <no-reply@databricks.com>
🎯 Changes
#2198 made a released Query keep an empty
queryToRowsentry until its release publishes. That entry stops unpublished row metadata from naming the released Query as an owner again. Two other readers treated the same entry as "the active lease has applied a result":deferDataRefresh). The fix marks a release's entry in a
WeakSet. A newhasAppliedOwnershiphelper reports only an unmarked entry, and both readers use it. All other readers still treat the entry as a resolved owner with no rows, which keeps #2198's protection. After CodeRabbit's review, the result-application rollback snapshot keeps the entry by reference instead of cloning it, so a rollback cannot drop the mark. No reached history restores a marked entry, so that change has no distinguishing witness. The production diff is 15 lines added and 6 removed inpackages/query-db-collection/src/query.ts.🔬 Oracle Coverage

Limits:
state.cleanup(), after sync cleanup has removed the observers, so the restore guard returns. The remaining route is a duplicate-key replay inside the reacquired application's own transaction.errorand storage keeps the row, but the public Collection drops it. The controlled adapter keeps it; the real SQLite adapter drops it in every sync-present configuration tried, including without Query DB. This is a persistence-layer defect outside this PR, tracked in SQLite persistence: a sync transaction whose durable write fails still changes the public Collection #2210.✅ Checklist
