fix(platform-wallet)!: drain Core balance with restart-safe shielded recovery - #5396
llbartekll wants to merge 20 commits into
Conversation
Pool eligible transparent inputs without a change output and expose preview, execution, and durable operation status through Swift and FFI. Persist operation identity before dispatch and retain every exact signed funding attempt. After restart, verify the signed request and reconcile its complete output set against authenticated shielded sync before durably consuming the asset lock. Resume replays exact bytes first. Preserve legacy ABI layouts and published storage schemas. Validated with 42 targeted core tests, 438 FFI tests (1 skipped), SQLite recovery tests, Swift runtime tests, release iOS device/simulator builds, and a funded iOS testnet process-death test followed by a successful new Max transfer.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Three blocking root causes remain: incomplete completion evidence, concurrent reads of uncommitted completion, and leaked pre-build operation contexts. Two additional suggestions concern recovery-metadata preservation and viewing-key lock scope. This was a static review; the supplied CI snapshot shows Rust workspace checks failing, Kotlin and frozen-schema checks passing, and the Swift build skipped.

These findings are from an automated code review. Verify each finding against the current code and only fix it if needed.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:255-263: Require complete authenticated evidence before marking a drain consumed
The recovery gate proves that a saved attempt's output commitments were observed, but never verifies consumption of the original asset-lock outpoint. attempt_outputs authenticates the locally saved ECDSA-signed request; that signature is not part of the scanned note evidence. The output-only Orchard builder and ShieldFromAssetLock consensus verifier use empty extra sighash data, so authenticated output presence alone does not establish which outpoint funded those outputs. This branch can therefore persist Consumed while the original lock remains recoverable.
The fresh execution path has the complementary gap: fund_from_asset_lock.rs:597–600 calls complete_wallet_drain after build_and_broadcast_shielded returns. That helper accepts an affected-state result and discards it. The SDK explicitly limits that guarantee to a state snapshot, and Drive's verifier accepts both PartiallyConsumed and FullyConsumed without proving this attempt's Orchard outputs. A partial-consumption snapshot can therefore become a permanent Completed tombstone even when the drain outputs are absent.
Route fresh submissions, rebuilt attempts, and restart recovery through one wallet-layer completion gate requiring both authenticated matching outputs and proof-verified full consumption of the exact original outpoint, or equivalent authenticated evidence binding successful execution to that request. Until the complete evidence is available, retain Pending. Cover both missing-outpoint-consumption and missing-output-confirmation cases.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:197-201: Release the viewing-key read guard before persistence callbacks
The second keys binding borrows through the first binding's Tokio RwLockReadGuard; shadowing does not drop that guard. It remains held across persist_wallet_drain_attempt().await, including acquisition of the wallet-manager lock and synchronous host store/flush callbacks. Validation is the last operation needing the viewing keys, so retaining the guard unnecessarily delays key-slot writers during persistence I/O. Scope the validation borrow so the guard is released before persistence, matching the separation already used by add_shielded_account. Persistence callbacks are explicitly forbidden from re-entering wallet APIs, so the confirmed issue here is unnecessary lock retention rather than a demonstrated supported-callback deadlock.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/wallet_drain.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/wallet_drain.rs:58-64: Prevent busy status reads from observing uncommitted completion
The busy branch delegates to wallet_drain_operation_status_inner, which calls persister.load() and lets a restored Consumed row override Pending live/context state. FFIPersister::load does not acquire the round_lock held by store(). On Swift, persistAssetLocks stages the status change in backgroundContext, and loadCachedAssetLocksOnQueue reads that same context before endChangeset saves or rolls it back. The Swift queue serializes individual callbacks, not the complete persistence round.
Two concurrent status calls after restart can therefore race: one reconciles outputs and stages Consumed, while the other takes this busy branch and returns Completed from the unsaved row. If the first call's commit subsequently fails, the host has already received completion without a durable tombstone. The Swift walletDrainCalls protection does not cover concurrent status calls. Keep busy reads fail-closed using committed live/context evidence, or serialize the entire FFI restore read, including sidecars, against persistence rounds. Add coverage for a status read between staging completion and rejecting the commit.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/fund_from_asset_lock.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/fund_from_asset_lock.rs:156-164: Make unbuilt operation registration cancellation-safe
Registration stores a strong Arc initialized to Pending with no outpoint. Cancellation while awaiting shield_guard, or an error propagated from reconciliation or begin_wallet_drain before funding begins, skips the trailing state bookkeeping. No code removes the registered entry.
A later call with the same UUID gets a fresh context, but registration uses or_insert and retains the stale Arc. begin_wallet_drain ignores only the current invocation's Arc, so it sees the stale Pending/no-outpoint entry and refuses the retry. A different UUID is blocked by context_pending. Reusing the original Arc also fails after begin_wallet_drain has set started. Thus a transient durable-read failure can disable every subsequent drain until restart even though no lock was dispatched.
Use scoped cleanup that also runs on cancellation and releases this invocation's registration only when it has no recorded outpoint and the registry still contains the same Arc. Preserve contexts representing built or possibly durable locks, and keep caller-visible uncertainty separate from ownership of the registry entry. Cover cancellation while waiting for the shield guard and a pre-build load failure followed by a successful retry.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/apply.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/apply.rs:356-360: Preserve recovery metadata in the canonical apply path
This application path replaces operation_id and shielded_funding_attempts unconditionally. Applying an older asset-lock snapshot to an existing tracked lock can erase its UUID or shorten its signed-attempt history, although changeset folding and both persistence backends preserve that metadata. Recovery reads the live tracked lock, so it can lose an already-dispatched attempt; a later append can also conflict with the longer history retained in durable storage.
Preserve the existing operation association and append-only attempt history when applying stale snapshots. Share the recovery-metadata merge with changeset folding where practical, and add an apply-layer regression test covering a nil UUID and an older attempt prefix.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)
These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Keep collateral protection as a separate enablement dependency — Already explicitly documented and tracked outside this PR. The PR description names #5113 and requires collateral protection before enabling drains for collateral-holding wallets; no newly introduced collateral defect was established by this finding.
- Follow-up: Consider creating a separate issue or author/maintainer-requested PR for this.

In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:54-57: Support the Type18 V1 format selected by protocol version 14
attempt_outputs accepts only ShieldFromAssetLockTransition::V0, while PLATFORM_V14 selects serialization bounds and a default generation of 1. The production builder uses sdk.version() and dispatches through ShieldFromAssetLockTransition::try_from_asset_lock_with_bundle_and_signer, so a PV14 drain constructs V1 and fails this check after its Core asset lock has already been persisted and broadcast, before the Platform attempt is saved or submitted. Retrying encounters the same refusal. Reconciliation independently repeats the V0-only match at lines 309–312. Use the enum's existing action/value accessors and asset-lock/signature traits for both generations, preserving each original transition's signable bytes. Add coverage through the outer constructor for historical PV13 and PlatformVersion::latest(); the current recovery fixture directly constructs V0 with the latest version and therefore bypasses the dispatch that exposes this failure.
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:164-178: Allow same-outpoint recovery when a persisted format is retired
A signed V0 attempt saved under PV13 can remain unsubmitted when PV14 activates. PV14 admits only ShieldFromAssetLock V1, but this replay path permits rebuilding only for three proof-freshness errors. A retired-format rejection falls through to Ok(true); even a relay acknowledgement follows that path. The caller consequently returns pending without building a replacement, and an attempt that never executed cannot supply the exact output sightings required for completion. Every resume repeats the inadmissible bytes. Independently of adding V1 decoding support, check the saved transition's active-version bounds against the current protocol and allow a newly signed, durably appended attempt for the same original outpoint when its format is retired. Preserve historical attempts and the dual-evidence completion gate, and never create another Core lock. Add a PV13-persist/PV14-resume regression.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:341-345: Require successful history persistence before committing completion
Awaiting record_shield_from_asset_lock_activity does not establish durable history: it returns (), and queue_shielded_changeset logs and discards persister.store failures. FileBackedShieldedStore::save_activity only updates memory. An activity write that fails or rolls back can therefore be followed by a successful complete_wallet_drain store/flush, leaving a durable Consumed tombstone without canonical Type18 history. Subsequent reconciliation returns immediately for Consumed locks and does not repair that missing row after restart. WALLET_DRAIN also does not attest activity persistence, so a fallible checkpoint must ensure the backend actually supports it. Add a recovery-specific durable write, preferably committing history and the tombstone atomically, without changing the ordinary live recorder's best-effort contract. Test an activity-only failure and reopen the persisted state; RecoveryPersistence currently ignores shielded changesets, so its in-memory history assertions do not establish durability. The authenticated funds-completion gate remains intact, making this a history-integrity suggestion rather than a funds-safety blocker.
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:338-342: Reconcile scan-derived history before adding the canonical drain row
Recovery now requires the drain outputs to be scanned before this canonical recorder runs. The scan deriver groups notes by their discovering proof-anchor height, so drain outputs A and an unrelated receipt B discovered together can already have produced an aggregate activity row keyed by H(A∪B). This call adds the canonical drain row keyed by H(A), while save_activity only upserts by ID; both rows remain and attribute A's value twice. The scanner's overlap checks prevent later scan-derived duplicates but do not reconcile an aggregate installed before the canonical row. Reconcile overlapping scan-derived history when installing the authenticated drain entry, retaining the unrelated receipt without duplicating the drain outputs. Add a scan-first regression containing both the drain and an unrelated receipt; the current recovery tests insert notes directly and never exercise the coordinator's history derivation.

- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/build.rs:1113-1118: Release the input fence when funding-index persistence fails
This return drops in_broadcast_pin with its default pending-spend verdict, leaving all selected inputs fenced until an observed spend, with no timeout. At this boundary persist_asset_lock_account_pools has submitted only address-pool state: the asset-lock row is constructed and stored later, and the broadcaster has not been reached. There is therefore no recoverable transaction that can produce the spend needed to clear the fence. The operation's outpoint was also assigned before this write, so registration cleanup retains the context; later status reads remain Pending and same-UUID resume targets an untracked outpoint. Treat this pool-only failure differently from an uncertain asset-lock-row write: clear the unpublished operation outpoint, record the released pin verdict before awaiting owner-guarded reservation cleanup, and retain the consumed funding-key index. Add a regression showing that a transient pool store/flush failure does not prevent retrying the drain or spending the inputs after persistence recovers.

These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Retain the collateral-wallet rollout restriction pending #5113 — The drain uses shared funding-account selection without adding masternode-collateral exclusion. Spending unprotected collateral can disrupt masternode eligibility, but the PR explicitly defers this shared protection to #5113 and requires it before enabling drains for collateral-holding wallets.
- Follow-up: Keep the stated rollout restriction until the separately tracked collateral exclusion and restart-restoration coverage are integrated.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification of the complete PR range found one remaining in-scope history-reconciliation defect. A buffered completion can become durable after live publication was skipped, and a later bind can then treat the stale live aggregate as newer and discard the committed replacement rows; the existing overlap heuristic cannot establish freshness. The other prior findings are fixed or intentionally deferred, and the supplied CI snapshot remains pending.

- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/coordinator.rs:1128-1134: Resolve history replacements using committed provenance, not cache occupancy
The overlap filter assumes the live activity cache is newer than every persistence snapshot, but the supported buffered-backend failure path permits the reverse. `complete_wallet_drain` stores the canonical history replacement and completion tombstone, then returns when the buffered flush notification fails before applying `history.activity_removed` and `history.activity_entries` to the live coordinator store. If a later unrelated flush commits that retained changeset, a changed-account bind can restore the newer committed snapshot while the live cache still contains the superseded aggregate. At this point `claimed` maps the replacement rows' note commitments to the old aggregate, so this filter skips the canonical replacement rows and leaves obsolete history in memory. Status or another reconciliation call may repair it, but a bind alone can return successfully with stale activity. Carry replacement provenance or tombstones through the restore contract, or republish committed replacements before applying the overlap filter, and add a regression covering failed completion flush, independent commit, and restore into the unchanged old cache.
…ndling Reverts 999c2b4 and 9fad6e3 except the shielded restore filter. The removed code handled races that need a buffered persistence backend whose flush fails and a later unrelated flush that commits the retained changeset: rejected-drain cleanup handed to the operation, a fresh durable read before releasing it, and republishing a completion that a later flush committed. The iOS FFI persister and the SQLite persister in immediate mode commit inline, so production clients never reach these paths. The extra state was not worth its complexity. Kept: shielded restore skips a snapshot activity row that claims a note owned by a different live row, so a bind snapshot loaded before a drain replaced a scan aggregate cannot resurrect that aggregate. That race is reachable with inline backends too. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The exact-head implementation preserves the dual-evidence completion gate, bounded recovery archives, and atomic completion/history persistence. One blocking lifecycle issue remains: a committed Core sweep can strand the newly retained operation context; two suggestions address same-ID stale history restoration and recovery allocations. This assessment is static: no local builds or tests were run, and the supplied exact-head CI snapshot still had validation jobs queued or pending at 2026-10-14T14:52:06Z.

In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/operation.rs`:
- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/operation.rs:347-350: Resolve retained drain operations when Core sweeps their funding transaction
A committed TransactionsSwept event removes a pending drain's live lock through remove_tracked_asset_locks_for_swept and deletes its durable row through the emitted removal, but it does not resolve the registered operation context. Registration drop retains that Pending context because it has an outpoint, so this fallback continues reporting Pending after the sweep commits. The original checkpoint was cleared after tracking: retrying the same UUID therefore fails in hydrate_wallet_drain with AssetLockNotTracked, while a new UUID is rejected by begin_wallet_drain's context_pending check. This interaction is introduced by the new operation registry and occurs with successful inline persistence, independently of the deferred buffered-backend scenarios. Couple committed sweep invalidation to the operation lifecycle, while preserving the association needed if the funding transaction is subsequently reinstated. Add a regression covering dispatch, registration release, committed sweep, status, and both same-UUID and new-UUID retry.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/coordinator.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/coordinator.rs:1128-1134: Prevent stale shielded restores from resurrecting reconciled aggregates
The different-owner filter fixes the split-aggregate case, but an older scan row can still overwrite the canonical drain row when their IDs are identical. If a scan cluster contains only the drain's outputs, both the coarse Received/ShieldedSpend row and the canonical ShieldFromAssetLock row use compute_activity_id over the same commitments. A changed-account bind can load the coarse snapshot before completion, wait behind shield_guard, and restore it after completion publishes the canonical row. Every commitment maps to the same entry ID, so this check passes and save_activity overwrites the canonical classification. Subsequent scans deduplicate against that row, and reconciliation skips DrainCompleted, leaving the live history stale until another restore replaces it. Preserve the newer canonical same-ID entry during restoration and extend the stale-snapshot regression with a drain-only cluster. This remaining case changes history classification rather than double-counting value, so it is a suggestion rather than the original blocking aggregate-duplication issue.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/shielded/drain_recovery.rs:378-386: Clone only the requested asset lock during exact-outpoint recovery
list_tracked_locks performs values().cloned().collect(), so this exact-outpoint lookup deep-copies every tracked transaction and signed-attempt archive before discarding all but one lock. Completed drain tombstones retain their archives, making allocation volume grow with the wallet's entire drain history; the per-operation 4 MiB budget does not bound that total. Replay and attempt persistence repeat this pattern, and reconcile_wallet_drains also clones completed archives merely to skip them. Add an exact-outpoint snapshot accessor that clones only the selected lock, and collect only pending outpoints for wallet-wide reconciliation. This is independent of the deferred operation-scoped durable-read API and requires no persistence callback change.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)
These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Define buffered-backend drain admission and deferred-commit recovery — The native persistence contract permits buffered stores, and drain admission does not require store_commits_inline. After a failed buffered flush, an independent committing flush can therefore leave rejected-operation cleanup unfinished or completion caches stale. The PR explicitly excludes this convergence work; verification confirms that the in-tree drain-capable FFI backend commits inline and that SQLite withholds the capabilities needed to admit drains. This is a concrete limitation to address before extending drain support to buffered backends, not a claim that the reverted behavior is fixed.
- Follow-up: In a separately authorized change, define the supported admission contract and either enforce inline-only drain persistence or implement rejection cleanup and committed-cache publication, with independent-flush recovery tests.
…nstead of a signed-attempt archive A drain's asset lock is single-use and only this wallet holds its key, so Platform's answer about the outpoint already decides the outcome. The Type18 proof verifier looks the lock up by outpoint, and Drive consumes a Type18 lock in full. Matching every persisted signed attempt against scanned notes added no safety and cost a second persistence contract. Completion now happens in one place, after the Type18 submit: an accepted submit writes `DrainCompleted`; a resumed submit that Platform rejects because this exact outpoint is already consumed also writes it (an earlier attempt landed, the scan surfaces the note); anything else stays Pending. This applies to a fresh drain, a same-UUID resume and the generic exact-outpoint resume the iOS app uses. Status reads only the durable row, the live row and the active context; it never touches the network. Removed: the signed-attempt archive (`shielded_funding_attempts`, its 64-attempt / 4 MiB budget, V0/V1 replay and retired-format handling, SQLite migration V020, the persist/load/free FFI callbacks), shielded history reconciliation (`activity_removed`, the activity-removal callback, `activity_checkpoint`, strict host restore gated on it) and the `SHIELDED_FUNDING_ATTEMPTS` / `SHIELDED_ACTIVITY_RECONCILIATION` capability bits. `WALLET_DRAIN` is now `ASSET_LOCK_RECONCILIATION | ASSET_LOCK_FUNDING_INDICES | ASSET_LOCK_OPERATION_IDS`. Kept: operation UUIDs (V019), the operation registry with its checkpoint and cancellation handling, `DrainCompleted` as a terminal status that generic consumption cannot write, and the viewing-key check before Core funding. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…conciliation host support The Rust SDK no longer keeps a signed-attempt archive or replaces scan history when a drain completes, so the host callbacks that persisted, loaded and freed attempts and the one that removed activity rows are gone, together with the `shieldedFundingAttemptsBlob` field of the unshipped schema 4.0.0, the attempt archive codec and its budgets, and the two capability bits. The shielded restore loaders and the activity upsert go back to their pre-PR log-and-skip behaviour; failing a whole restore on one malformed row only served reconciliation. Operation UUIDs, their callbacks, the terminal `DrainCompleted` rules and the throwing `loadCachedAssetLocks` stay. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>

- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/orchestration.rs:560-563: Require complete authenticated evidence before marking a drain consumed
This branch promotes an unauthenticated rejection into irreversible drain success. `is_asset_lock_already_consumed` compares the structured error's public outpoint and explicitly documents that it does not authenticate consumption. In `rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs`, wait-stream errors return before the GroveDB proof and quorum-signature verification. A malicious DAPI endpoint can therefore return a matching already-consumed error on the first submission without executing it. `complete_wallet_drain` then durably writes `DrainCompleted`, clears the proof, and makes subsequent retries refuse the still-recoverable lock. Exclusive ownership of its key does not authenticate the endpoint's claim that it was spent.
The successful-response path also needs inspection: `build_and_broadcast_shielded` discards `StateTransitionProofResult` at `fund_from_asset_lock.rs:880–882`, although Drive's Type18 verifier accepts both `PartiallyConsumed` and `FullyConsumed`. The separate terminal status therefore does not enforce complete consumption on either path. Keep unverified rejection reports Pending and require authenticated evidence sufficient to establish full consumption and the intended drain outcome before persisting completion. This can be implemented without restoring the signed-attempt archive or changing historical verifier behavior. Cover a matching forged rejection without consumption evidence and a proof result containing only partial consumption.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/apply.rs`:
- [NITPICK] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/apply.rs:14-16: Stale signed-attempt reference in apply invariants
The signed-attempt archive has been removed, but this invariant still promises that stale snapshots cannot shorten signed-attempt history. Describe the remaining guarantees—immutable operation UUIDs and terminal tombstones—so the module documentation matches the current recovery model.
In `packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/operation.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/operation.rs:505-515: Resolve retained drain operations when Core sweeps their funding transaction
(existing thread: https://github.com/dashpay/platform/pull/5396#discussion_r4272999535)
A committed conflict sweep removes the lock but leaves its operation permanently Pending for this process. The `TransactionsSwept` bridge calls `remove_tracked_asset_locks_for_swept`, which removes the live row and emits its durable removal without updating `drain_operations`. Registration drop retains the Pending context because it has an outpoint. Status then falls back to that context, a new UUID fails this `context_pending` check, and the same UUID fails hydration with `AssetLockNotTracked` because tracking already cleared its checkpoint. This occurs with successful inline persistence, independently of the buffered-backend cases.
The conflicting-spend prerequisite and restart workaround bound this to availability rather than funds safety, so this is nonblocking. Resolve affected contexts from the committed sweep lifecycle rather than guessing from row absence, and preserve the association needed if the funding transaction is reinstated. Add coverage for a committed sweep followed by status and same-UUID/new-UUID retries.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (1)
These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Define settlement recovery before enabling drains on buffered backends — The generic persistence contract still permits a failed flush followed by an unrelated flush committing retained completion or rejection-removal changes. Those sequences can leave live locks or input fences stale. The FFI backend commits inline, and SQLite does not currently attest the full WALLET_DRAIN capability, so this remains a concrete backend-support limitation rather than a blocker for the shipped drain path.
- Follow-up: Before a buffered backend attests WALLET_DRAIN, define and test later-commit publication and rejection cleanup, or explicitly constrain that capability to supported commit semantics.
…ll consumption The landed Type18's verified proof result was discarded, so a drain wrote its terminal `DrainCompleted` receipt without checking what the proof said about the lock. `build_and_broadcast_shielded` now returns that verdict with the landed actions and a drain completes only on `StoredAssetLockInfo::FullyConsumed`; anything else leaves the operation pending with its outpoint. The generic Type18 path keeps base behaviour. Also drop the stale signed-attempt wording from the apply invariants. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The successful-response path now requires proof-verified full consumption, but the rejection path still turns an unauthenticated endpoint claim into irreversible drain completion. One additional suggestion concerns confirmed activity being recorded before the new consumption guard. This was static verification at the exact requested head; no builds or tests were run, and the supplied CI snapshot still showed build-related checks pending or running.

Drive's Type18 proof verifier can return PartiallyConsumed, and the affected-state SDK API authenticates a state snapshot rather than execution of this particular bundle. In that case this call records confirmed incoming activity before the guard correctly returns TransactionBroadcastUnconfirmed and leaves the drain Pending. A later retry can build different output commitments, leaving the first confirmed row describing outputs that were never established on-chain. For operation-tagged drains, check fully_consumed before recording the activity, and add a regression asserting that a partial-consumption result creates no Confirmed drain entry. This does not require changing the existing generic non-drain behavior.

- [BLOCKING] packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/wallet/asset_lock/orchestration.rs:560-563: Require complete authenticated evidence before marking a drain consumed
(existing thread: https://github.com/dashpay/platform/pull/5396#discussion_r4280509312)
This branch completes an operation-tagged drain from an outpoint-matched SDK error without authenticating consumption. It also has no resumed-only condition: a malicious DAPI endpoint can withhold the first Type18 submission and return a structured already-consumed error naming its public outpoint. The SDK returns wait-stream errors at broadcast.rs:485–493 before proof and quorum-signature verification. complete_wallet_drain then persists DrainCompleted, clears the proof, and makes both same-UUID and generic exact-outpoint recovery refuse the still-unspent lock, including after restart.
The new FullyConsumed guard protects only successful responses. The merge-base generic reconciler does not provide equivalent terminal behavior: it explicitly treats this error as unauthenticated, retains consumption-unknown state when possible, and returns an error. Exclusive ownership of the spending key establishes who could consume the lock, not whether the endpoint's claim is true. Until authenticated consumption evidence is available, leave the operation Pending and preserve its exact outpoint and recovery material. Removing this completion shortcut requires neither restoring the signed-attempt archive nor adding a new query. Replace the constructed-error completion regression with a matching unauthenticated rejection that must not persist DrainCompleted.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (3)
These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Resolve drain operation contexts after committed funding-transaction sweeps — The sweep path removes the live and durable lock without resolving its retained Pending operation context. Same-UUID hydration then has no row or checkpoint, while a new UUID remains blocked until restart. Source inspection confirms that the sweep concerns a funding transaction invalidated by a conflicting spend; this is the explicitly excluded conflict lifecycle case, not a normal interrupted-transfer recovery failure.
- Follow-up: Connect committed Core sweep and reinstatement handling to the operation registry in a separate follow-up, preserving the operation association needed for reinstatement.
- Repair lifecycle state after independently committed buffered writes — A later independent flush can commit a previously failed completion or rejected-row removal without repairing the live lock, operation context, or rejected-input cleanup. The drain-capable FFI backend commits inline, and SQLite does not currently attest WALLET_DRAIN, so the buffered-backend recovery case is not enabled by either built-in path.
- Follow-up: Before enabling WALLET_DRAIN on a buffered backend, implement deferred-commit publication and retryable rejection cleanup with coverage for failed flush followed by an independent commit.
- Add an operation-scoped committed status lookup — Operation status still invokes the full persistence restore, and the FFI implementation holds round_lock across wallet and sidecar restoration. This is a concrete scaling and writer-contention concern, but the current lookup preserves fail-closed absence semantics and the PR explicitly defers the persistence-interface extension.
- Follow-up: Add a committed wallet-and-operation-scoped persistence read and corresponding additive host callback in a separate follow-up.
…cording activity A drain left pending by a non-FullyConsumed proof verdict must not carry a Confirmed ShieldFromAssetLock history row for a bundle a later resume may replace. Move the guard ahead of the activity record; the generic Type18 path is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The successful-submit path now checks verified full consumption before recording drain activity, and the checkpoint, registration, and inline-commit fixes are present. One blocking issue remains: an unauthenticated already-consumed rejection can permanently complete a drain whose lock is still unspent. This was a static review; in the supplied exact-head CI snapshot, Kotlin build/tests and policy/hygiene checks were still pending or running.

This branch accepts an outpoint-matched rejection as sufficient evidence for permanent completion. In `rs-sdk/src/platform/transition/broadcast.rs:485–493`, a structured wait-stream error returns before the proof and quorum-signature verification at lines 514–525; `is_asset_lock_already_consumed` only checks the error variant and public outpoint. A malicious DAPI endpoint can therefore acknowledge but discard the submitted Type18 and return a fabricated matching rejection. This applies on the first submission as well as a resume. `complete_wallet_drain` then persists `DrainCompleted`, clears the retained proof, and causes both same-UUID and exact-outpoint recovery to refuse the still-unspent lock, including after restart.
The existing `settle_completes_drain_on_exact_outpoint_already_consumed_report` regression demonstrates the missing boundary: a locally constructed error alone writes the terminal row, without any verified consumption result. Exclusive key ownership establishes who could spend the lock, not whether the endpoint truthfully reported consumption. The merge-base generic handler instead retains nonterminal consumption-unknown state and returns an error. A new proof-backed query is not required to avoid this regression: remove the rejection-to-completion shortcut, preserve Pending and the recoverable outpoint through generic reconciliation, and require authenticated full-consumption evidence before writing `DrainCompleted`. Update the matching-error regression to assert that an error alone cannot complete the drain; no signed-attempt archive needs to be restored.
Out-of-scope follow-up suggestions (2)
These are valid observations, but they are outside this PR's scope and should be handled in separate issues or author/maintainer-requested PRs rather than blocking this review.
- Complete recovery after independently committed buffered drain changes — The shared persistence contract still permits a failed buffered flush followed by an independent successful flush. Status can then discover durable completion without repairing the live lock, or retain a Pending context and input fences after a rejected lock's removal becomes durable. These are concrete deferred lifecycle limitations, but the shipping drain-capable FFI path commits inline and SQLite does not currently attest WALLET_DRAIN.
- Follow-up: Track buffered drain recovery separately, covering live publication after deferred completion and retryable cleanup after deferred rejection removal before enabling a buffered production backend.
- Resolve operation ownership when Core sweeps drain funding — The committed sweep path removes tracked funding locks without resolving their retained operation contexts. This can block same-UUID and new-UUID drains until restart after the funding transaction loses a conflict. The conflict-driven lifecycle is explicitly excluded here and is separate from ordinary interrupted-submit recovery.
- Follow-up: Track integration between committed sweep/reinstatement events and the UUID-scoped operation registry, including preservation of the association needed for reinstatement.
Why the remaining thepastaclaw blocker is not addressed in this PRThe carried-forward 🔴 finding (originally #5396 (comment)) asks that a resumed Type18 rejected with an exact-outpoint "already consumed" error must not complete the drain until the wallet holds authenticated evidence that the lock was consumed, because a malicious DAPI node could drop the signed Type18 and forge that consensus error. We acknowledge the threat model and are deliberately not closing it here:
The right fix is an SDK-level, proof-backed asset-lock state query that every asset-lock consumer could use — a follow-up, not more wallet persistence. The final call stays with the human reviewer; if maintainers want it closed before merge, say so and we will open that follow-up first. 🤖 Generated with Claude Code |

Core → Shielded Max can leave a few hundred duffs in Core because the app supplies an estimated amount to an exact-amount asset-lock builder. An interrupted transfer can also remain pending indefinitely after the network accepted it, preventing another Max transfer.
This provides the SDK implementation required by the companion iOS wallet PR: dashpay/dashwallet-ios#1205. The iOS PR depends on this Platform PR and must not be merged with the previous SDK. Merge Platform first, then rebuild the SwiftDashSDK device and simulator framework before integrating the iOS change.
What was done?
Companion app: dashpay/dashwallet-ios#1205. The iOS change requires these SDK APIs and persistence guarantees; merge this Platform PR and rebuild the device/simulator SDK framework before merging or releasing the app change.
FullyConsumedwrites the terminalDrainCompletedstatus (any other proof verdict leaves the operation pending with its outpoint); a resumed Type18 that Platform rejects because this exact outpoint was already consumed also completes the drain (an earlier attempt landed; the scan surfaces the note); any other error leaves the operation pending with its outpoint. This holds for a fresh drain, a same-UUID resume and the generic exact-outpoint resume the app uses for "Finish now". Generic consumption cannot writeDrainCompleted, and no store regresses it. Status is read-only: durable row, live row and active operation context, no network. Why there is no signed-attempt archive
Earlier revisions of this PR persisted every signed Type18 attempt, matched their outputs against scanned notes after a restart and required a proof-verified
FullyConsumedresult before completing. That was removed in9040417b3b:Accepted trade-offs: after a resume that completes through "already consumed", the history row for that transfer comes from the scan ("Received") instead of a canonical "Transparent → Shielded" row; a resume always builds a fresh Orchard proof; the same seed used on two devices at once for asset-lock operations could report a false success (that is a double spend of the wallet's own funds, outside this PR's scope).
Operation status still uses a full committed restore to distinguish missing operations from unreadable state; an operation-scoped durable lookup is deferred as a follow-up. Collateral protection tracked in #5113 remains outside this change and is required before enabling drains for wallets holding masternode collateral.
