Problem

After a maintainer answered a decision, the inbox stayed on the item just answered. Every refused action was titled "Not recorded", even a refused "Refresh from GitHub", and linked only to the inbox root.

Behavior

  • Every inbox form (answer, account choice, publication reply, start/retry/plan/iterate, stop, skip, merge) redirects through one helper, nextURL(done) in cloudflare/src/jobs/routes.ts, to /inbox?done=<action>. That is the next active decision, or the empty state, with a short notice: "Answer recorded.", "Job requested.", "Stop requested.", "Skipped until it changes.", or "Pull request merged." Unknown done values show nothing.
  • The redirect from kixelated/quest#163 (merge and skip went to bare /inbox) now uses the same helper.
  • The item acted on stays reachable from its "In progress" or "Skipped and finished" list, with its earlier answers.
  • A refused action is titled "Couldn't do that", says why, and links back to the item it was posted from. The link comes from the same-origin Referer (the app sends Referrer-Policy: same-origin), and falls back to the inbox otherwise.
  • Plain form posts still work without JavaScript. The JSON API is unchanged.

Decisions (routine, made unattended)

  • Every inbox form moves on, not only answers. Starting a job or stopping one is also a decision on the item. Each action gets its own short notice instead of a blanket "Answer recorded", which would be wrong after "Start a planning interview". The trade-off is that after starting a job you no longer see its "no runners online" status straight away. The item is listed under "In progress" with its state.
  • The back link uses Referer, not a hidden field on every form. It is the smallest change that works without JavaScript.

Validation

  • just check: passed
  • just test: passed (Worker 232 tests, root 259 tests)
  • The inbox tests cover each redirect target, the notice on the next decision and on the empty state, the answered item listed under "In progress", and the refused page's title and back link.

Follow-ups

None required. kixelated/quest#165 touches the same inbox files and may need a small rebase.

Every inbox form (answer, start, stop, skip, merge) now redirects through one
nextURL helper to the next active decision, or the empty state, with a short
notice such as "Answer recorded." The item acted on stays reachable from its
list with its earlier answers. A refused action is titled "Couldn't do that",
says why, and links back to the item it was posted from.

Outcome: the quest is done and just check and just test pass locally. Two routine decisions were made unattended and are listed in the description: every inbox form moves on with its own notice, and the refused page's back link comes from Referer. Nothing is left open. Ready for review.

P2 Badge Preserve the active item in refusal links

When an action is submitted from the normal active thread, its Referer is /inbox or the newly introduced /inbox?done=..., neither of which contains project or item. The helper therefore falls through to the generic inbox link rather than linking to the item that produced the refusal; if inbox ordering changes before the user returns, they can land on a different decision. Preserve the active item's identity in the redirect/form instead of requiring these query parameters in the referrer.

Merge summary: the inbox now moves on to the next decision after any form posts, and shows a short notice for what was recorded. A refused action is titled "Couldn't do that" and links back to the item it came from.

  • Review: Codex found nothing in its code or security review of 444d318.
  • Since that review: one merge of main (c7ffb15, kixelated/quest#166), which touches only skills, the README, and quest files, nothing in this PR. just check and just test pass locally, and CI is green on aca8c3b.
  • Decisions accepted by the user: every inbox form moves on, each with its own notice, and the refused page's back link comes from the same-origin Referer.
  • Coordination: kixelated/quest#165 edits the same inbox files and will need to merge main after this lands.

Enabling squash auto-merge on aca8c3b.

Keep the done-notice assertions from #173 on the rate-limited inbox, since a revoked maintainer's project is now hidden rather than reported.
