Description:

This PR enables the modern Vue.js web interface in the TVHeadend Docker image.

The changes include:

  • Adding nodejs and npm as build-time dependencies.
  • Enabling --enable-vue_build to compile the Vue Web UI directly from source.
  • Disabling --vue_cache to avoid relying on prebuilt frontend assets.
  • Keeping the existing ExtJS interface available.

Node.js and npm are only required during the build stage and are not added to the final runtime image.

Benefits of this PR and context:

TVHeadend now provides a modern Vue-based web interface as an alternative to the classic ExtJS interface.

Enabling the Vue UI in the official LinuxServer.io image would make it available to all users without requiring custom Docker builds.

The Vue interface is integrated directly into the TVHeadend binary, so no additional frontend container or web server is required.

How Has This Been Tested?

The Vue build configuration was tested using a custom TVHeadend Docker/OCI image based on the LinuxServer.io build environment.

Test environment:

  • GitHub Actions (Ubuntu 24.04, AMD64)
  • Alpine Linux 3.21 base image
  • Node.js and npm installed during the build stage
  • Successful Docker image compilation
  • Image successfully deployed using Proxmox VE OCI

The changes were tested in a custom ICAM-enabled fork. The official LinuxServer.io image and other CPU architectures have not yet been independently validated.

Hi, just a heads up that the upstream is about to remove soon the classic ExtJS web UI, so adding support to the new UI is crucial. The removal is being prepared at PR tvheadend/tvheadend#2336

We're currently reviewing what we plan to do with this container. It's been unloved for a while and hasn't been used by anyone in the team for a number of years now (I personally was the last one).

It's likely we'll drop this container so I would suggest looking at tvheadend's official offering.

Sorry, I know that's obviously not what you want to hear but it's where we are unfortunately.
