Open Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application, find the ".NET Runtime" error (Event ID 1026) from when Rapr.exe crashed, and paste its full text here.
Is there a Rapr.log next to Rapr.exe? If so, the last lines would help too.
Do you have the Windows ADK/AIK or any other DISM tools installed? And is there a DismApi.dll in the same folder as Rapr.exe, or in a folder on your PATH?
My guess is that the app finds a DismApi.dll for the wrong architecture while checking whether DISM is available. Windows 7 doesn't have one in System32, so it ends up looking in other folders.

Thanks, that helps a lot. The crash signature points to the exact spot: DismUtil's static constructor, in the code that checks whether DISM is available (Marshal.Prelink on DismApi.dll). On your system a DismApi.dll is found but can't be loaded into the 64-bit process, and that check doesn't handle BadImageFormatException, so the app crashes instead of falling back to PnpUtil.
Extract it to a new folder and run Rapr.exe. It's an unsigned test build, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning ("More info" → "Run anyway"). It should start normally now. Could you let me know if it works?
Yeah, whether it crashes depends on which DismApi.dll Windows 7 finds on each machine (it varies with installed updates and PATH), so some PCs were hit and others weren't. win 8+ not have this problem

Hi,
Rapr.log shows only Rapr started.
No Dism.dll installed...

Give me a few min.
Treat DISM as unavailable when DismApi.dll can't be loaded

The fix is in #480. If you'd like to try it before it's released, here's the CI build for that PR:

Thanks a lot, you are the best !
That works fine...

I've dealt with those bugs in the past. Nice!

Curiously, only 3 of my 5 PCs running Win 7 Pro 64 were affected; all are working correctly now.
