Related issue: #1290

Adds three Client methods for chat workspace routes that had no SDK method:

  • get_chat_workspace(uid): GET /chats/{uid}
  • delete_chat_workspace(uid): DELETE /chats/{uid}
  • reset_chat_workspace_settings(uid): DELETE /chats/{uid}/settings

They validate the uid like the existing workspace settings methods (an empty value or path separators raise ValueError). They need the chatCompletions experimental feature.

Tests: new tests/client/test_chat_workspaces.py, 13 tests against a live server (existing workspace, not found, reset, delete, invalid uids). Run against Meilisearch v1.55.0 Community; they fail without the change. Full suite: 399 passed, 5 skipped, 2 failed. The 2 failures are the inline rule Enterprise tests, which fail the same way on unmodified main. ruff check, ruff format --check and mypy pass.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added options to view chat workspace details, delete a workspace, and reset its settings.
    • Resetting settings clears workspace configuration without deleting the workspace.
    • Workspace operations reject empty identifiers and identifiers containing path separators or URL delimiters, returning a validation error.

📝 Walkthrough

The client adds methods to retrieve and delete chat workspaces and reset workspace settings. Each method validates the workspace UID. Tests cover the operations, not-found responses, reset settings, and invalid UIDs.

Workspace operations and validation
meilisearch/client.py, tests/client/test_chat_workspaces.py
The client adds retrieval, deletion, and settings-reset methods with shared UID validation. Tests check successful operations, not-found errors, reset settings, and invalid UIDs.

Change: Feature

Suggested reviewers: strift

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 0bbf3

The new client methods add chat-workspace retrieval, deletion, and settings reset with UID validation. No concrete merge-blocking behavior is established, so the change appears ready for normal checks.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 0bbf3

The new operations reuse the existing server connection and credentials without adding local workspace state or automatic retries. No security regression was established, but handling of unusual identifiers and server-side authorization and deletion guarantees remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new methods target the configured server using the existing credential, rather than introducing another host or credential source. Effective accessible workspace and endpoint scope still depends on URL interpretation and server authorization; the SDK evidence does not establish tenant isolation.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The new methods introduce syntactic UID checks but no local ownership or authorization decision. Existing settings methods already use direct UID interpolation and the same transport; neither that precedent nor the stronger literal-delimiter checks proves how encoded identifiers are routed or authorized downstream.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Deletion and reset each delegate one request without adding retries, reservations, cached state, rollback, or cleanup orchestration. Timeout errors are surfaced, so a timeout can leave the remote outcome unknown. Atomicity, repeat-call semantics, concurrent ordering, and recovery remain server-contract questions rather than new client-side transition guarantees.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define the supported canonical UID grammar and verify encoded-separator and dot-segment behavior across URL preparation, server routing, and authorization before treating SDK validation as a route-isolation control.

Hi @imranrkhan13, and thanks for your interest 🙌

Can you open a single PR to implement all features related to the chats API?

Take a look at how it was implemented in the JS SDK: meilisearch/meilisearch-js#1988

Closing this in the meantime.
