To clarify how we expect users to cite our software, we can add a .cff file to the repo, see https://github.com/citation-file-format/citation-file-format?utm_source=chatgpt.com.

The suggested citation can be one of our papers about the software instead of the repo, see https://github.com/citation-file-format/citation-file-format/blob/main/schema-guide.md#credit-redirection.
