mssql-python-odbc manyliinux_2_28 wheels include files linked against musl 1.2 #790

Closed

Description

Describe the bug

The wheels for mssql-python-odbc manylinux and musllinux both contain files linked against libcs other than the one indicated by the name.

To reproduce

From:
https://pypi.org/project/mssql-python-odbc/#files

manylinux (glibc) wheel:
https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/35/1f/6cdb575549fbbe6f49bcadb505768649c43226bd83ec57a53a934d48e459/mssql_python_odbc-18.6.2.1-py3-none-manylinux_2_28_x86_64.whl

musllinux (musl) wheel:
https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/6c/66/7c96d719dfe7e9dcbbbf7acb345c72dfaef392fa6c5042e2718dfb1779b4/mssql_python_odbc-18.6.2.1-py3-none-musllinux_1_2_x86_64.whl

The manylinux package has .so files linked against musl:
ldd libs/linux/alpine/x86_64/lib/libodbcinst.so.2 lists libc.musl-x86_64.so.1

Likewise the Debian binary in the musllinux package links against libc.so.6 and contains glibc version resolution metadata.

Expected behavior

The manylinux package should not contain .so files which link against musl.
The musllinux package should not contain .so files which link against glibc.

Hi Sam Leonard (@sam-leonard-ct), thanks for following up and providing the wheel links. You’re right, we reproduced the packaging issue. I'll make the required changes and will raise the PR for the fix.

Thanks, I think this is genuinely the last barrier to me actually being able to use the library :D

Hi Sam Leonard (@sam-leonard-ct), the packaging fix has been merged. We’re targeting the next release, which will include a new version of mssql-python-odbc with the corrected libc-specific wheels. The currently published wheels remain affected until that release is available. Thanks for the detailed report and for helping us catch this remaining packaging gap!
