fix(nix): restore Linux release links - #6090
Conversation
Co-Authored-By: GPT-6.1 <noreply@openai.com>
Consume the upstream lld fix through nixpkgs and compile cargo-llvm-cov with the existing pinned Rust toolchain so its LLVM test helpers match the compiler profile format. Retire the completed release-link quest and reconcile its references. Co-Authored-By: GPT-6 <noreply@openai.com>
Resolve the quest index by retaining the completed release-link deletion and the abandoned draft-22 notices deletion. Co-Authored-By: GPT-6 <noreply@openai.com>

Release-link implementation is complete: all three crates link with glibc 2.34 for x86_64 and aarch64, both moq-gst package formats build for both architectures, and the invalid aws-lc section symbols are gone. The completed quest and its references are retired. The draft retains the unchanged relay readiness fixture as a local CI blocker. Nix/VM checks, OBS compilation, quest validation and linters passed; no speculative fixture repair or retry/timeout change is included. Public APIs and wire formats are unchanged. Toolchain choices are settled. Recommended follow-up: fix the existing fixture synchronization separately, then finish the local gate before making this PR ready. (Written by GPT-6) |

Reconcile the milestone's stale toolchain status
This now says the release toolchain is fixed, but quest/m0/README.md:69-72 still says the lld fix is waiting on nixpkgs-unstable. Removing the completed quest while leaving the milestone summary in that state gives readers contradictory blocker status, so update that paragraph as part of this change.

Fixed in af62091: the m0 milestone summary now says the lld break was fixed by bumping nixpkgs past the upstream fix.

Correct the failure description.
This line attributes the break to “GCC 16 miscompiles lld 21”, but the PR objective identifies the upstream fix as lld handling invalid unnamed section symbols in aws-lc objects. Replace the parenthetical with the actual failure mechanism.

Name the ownership target explicitly.
This sentence is under Owned elsewhere, but “the release toolchain now links” has no object and does not identify which audit owns the links. Replace it with explicit ownership, such as “Release toolchain links are owned by this audit.”

Problem
The pinned Zig produces invalid unnamed section symbols in aws-lc objects, breaking Linux release links for moq-cli, moq-relay and moq-gst.
Approach
Update nixpkgs to e513db7b, which carries the upstream lld fix. Build cargo-llvm-cov with the shell's existing Rust 1.98.1 so its LLVM test helpers read the compiler's profiling format; nixpkgs' default Rust 1.99 fails those tests. Retire the completed quest and reconcile its references.
Impact
Validation
cargo zigbuild --locked --release --target <triple>.2.34 -p moq-relay -p moq-cli -p moq-gstpassed for x86_64 and aarch64. All six ELF artifacts have the expected architecture and require no GLIBC symbol newer than 2.34..deband.rpmartifacts for both Linux architectures with the pinned packaging tools.--version. aarch64 validation cross-links against the matching Rust std and Nix GStreamer libraries.just cipassed the Nix flake/VM checks, OBS compilation, quest validation and linters. It stopped in the unchanged foreign-listener relay fixture at its existing 15-second timeout, also recorded in moq-dev/moq#6086. No fixture, retry or timeout changes are included.just checkpassed (quest validation, OBS compilation, all 47 Nix flake checks including the runner VM test, and linters).Alternatives
A separate Zig pin would duplicate toolchain ownership. The upstream fix keeps packaging and development on the shared nixpkgs pin and existing nightly release coverage.
Follow-ups
Repair the existing relay readiness fixture synchronization separately so the full local gate can finish. That fixture is unrelated to this change, so it does not block this PR.
