docs(agents): steer by the corrections agents keep needing - #6194
Conversation
A month of session transcripts showed the same steering again and again. Promote the recurring design principles into the instruction files, fix the lines that pulled agents the wrong way, and trim stale, duplicated, or tooling-enforced text. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Limit the no-rewind assumption to local publishers
For session copies of remote tracks, this blanket invariant is false: track::Producer::received() deliberately skips rewind validation (rs/moq-net/src/model/track.rs:2890-2897), and a_received_rewind_is_accepted_at_every_version verifies that such tracks remain open. In code that processes relayed or otherwise peer-supplied tracks, following “spend nothing on staying correct” could make indexing, expiry, or search logic incorrectly assume monotonic attacker-controlled timestamps. Qualify this as an invariant of locally published group starts while requiring consumers to handle remote rewinds.

Agreed. Fixed in 652b633: the rule now says a local write refuses a rewind, but some received tracks skip that check, so a peer's rewind must never panic or cost unbounded work, while results on that track may be wrong. Worded to stay true after #6150, where moq-transport ingress stays unchecked.

List all exceptions to the
moq- crate prefix
This now presents hang as the sole exception, but the workspace also contains the established crates kio, libmoq, and uniffi-bindgen; the very next bullet even names kio. An agent adding or reorganizing infrastructure crates would therefore be steered away from the repository's actual naming pattern. Limit this convention to component crates or identify the other exceptions.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Agreed. Fixed in c801bbf: the rule now covers component crates only and says infrastructure like kio is not one, rather than listing every exception.

Narrow the published-workspace description.
The root workspace list includes private workspaces such as bench/browser, doc, js/e2ee, and js/wasm. The current sentence incorrectly implies that every listed workspace is published as @moq/<component>.

Problem
A month of Claude Code transcripts (about 440 sessions) shows the maintainer re-teaching the same design principles and process rules across many sessions. Some of these lived only in per-user memory, which Codex and other contributors never see. A few existing lines pushed agents the wrong way: "split when in doubt" beat "land the ideal implementation now", "all tests in CI" put heavy suites in the merge gate, "bound that cost by design" was read as permission for refusal caps, and "Enqueue … once the review is clean" was read as merge approval. Separately, an audit against the code found stale paths, wrong symbol names, and rules stated three or four times.
Approach
Direction (evidence: sessions where the maintainer corrected it):
-wipversion changes freely.Process (CONTRIBUTING):
Trim (each verified against the code):
sh/changed.shdoesn't need it)_publish-test(deleted in chore(tooling): thin justfiles and CI that calls them #4038)moq_tokio::cli::mergeis actuallyMergeInfo::default()"milliseconds" claim (it is untimed; usehang::container::track_info)moq.hand is now covered by the root tableLeft alone because #6181 and #6189 already change them: the regression-test line and "question whether functionality is needed".
Impact
Also dropped from
