A timed group's first frame already upgrades the track link for its rewind check; revealing the group upgraded it a second time. Pass it through. Callgrind, per op: track_stamp_groups/sparse/64 2,981 -> 2,843 (-4.6%), append/64 8,830 -> 8,717 (-1.3%). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…cale Finding the first buffered datagram within a new reader's max delay turned every timestamp into a Duration, a 128-bit division each. Convert the cutoff into the track's scale once, rounded up so the comparison stays exact. Callgrind, per op: track_datagram_subscriber_join/64d/1 8,530 -> 6,032 (-29%), 64d/64 522,414 -> 357,285 (-32%); 0d is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Every write through a Mut guard moved its waiter list out and walked it, even with nobody parked, which is the common case for a group's frame writes and the track's largest position. Callgrind, per op: group_write_frames/single/8192 7.41M -> 6.50M (-12%), track_fanout_frame/1 1,008 -> 902 (-11%), track_stamp_groups/append/64 8,717 -> 8,369 (-4%). Record the accepted mux publication, model, and session costs in the epic with the instruction-count evidence, mark the noise rows, and retire the quest. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

WalkthroughThe changes update the release performance record and remove its separate re-check plan. The mux benchmarks move setup or decoding outside non-inlined timed boundaries. The kio producer clears abandoned value waiters in a specific drop case and adds matching benchmark cases. The network model passes retained track producers into group startup and compares datagram timestamps against a cutoff converted to track units. Priority: ⬇️ Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to

A write that found only dead value waiters skipped the drain but left them in place, so every later write rescanned them. Clear them in place instead, and sweep the abandoned count in a channel bench: 1.77 us per write at 4096 abandoned waiters before, 11 ns after. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Problem
The release-perf epic's screen-only moves (main slower than release in one wall-time run on a busy host) needed instruction counts to tell real cost from noise, then a fix or a recorded acceptance for each one that held.
Approach
Each lead was re-measured with callgrind, counting instructions per timed operation. Release was rebuilt under main's dev shell with fat LTO and one codegen unit, so the ratios compare source, not toolchains. Every fix was measured before and after on main. A change that did not measure a win was dropped.
Commits:
test(mux): export benches open the exporter during setup again, matching release's drain boundary (from the earlier checkpoint; under 1% on main).perf(net): a timed group's first frame passes the track link it already upgraded to the reveal step, instead of upgrading a second time.perf(net): a joining reader finds the first datagram within its max delay by converting the cutoff into the track's scale once (rounded up, so the comparison stays exact) rather than turning every buffered timestamp into aDuration. A 90 kHz test pins the rounding.perf(kio): aMutwrite with no live waiter and no close skips moving out and walking its waiter list. A follow-up commit clears dead entries in place on that path, so waiters that parked and left are not rescanned on every later write; the newchannel_write_abandonedbench sweeps the abandoned count (1.77 us per write at 4096 before, 11 ns after).quest: records the accepted costs in the epic with their reasons and retires the re-check quest, its last child, so the epic is sized for its final re-run.Settled decision: the mux catalog/timeline publication cost is accepted. It is required output, paid once per broadcast (the Annex B import ratio falls from 3.97x at 1 frame to 1.49x at 64), and its DEFLATE state is already built lazily.
Results
Instructions per operation, main before and after this PR:
group_write_frames/single/8192track_fanout_frame/1track_parallel_write/1track_stamp_groups/append/64track_stamp_groups/sparse/64track_datagram_subscriber_join/64d/1track_datagram_subscriber_join/64d/64Leads, main over release in instructions (the epic's table has the full set):
sparse/644.4x. Accepted: the rest pays for arrival stamps, largest notifications, the rewind check and starts index, indexed expiry wakes, the bounded expiry scan, and subscriber ranges. None of it grows with the sweeps.advance_largestno-ops: already free. AMutguard only read from wakes nobody, and every frame write moves the largest position, so there was no no-op write to skip.origin/announce_duplicate: 1.06x to 1.16x across the sweep, not 4.3x. Noise.session_delivery_{relays,paced,scale}: 1.28x to 1.77x. Accepted as the model cost above on every hop, measured through main's flow-controlled mock transport.aggregateat live=16, departed=4096: 1.05x. Noise.contended_{notify,log}at 16 threads: 1.04x to 1.15x wall time in the least loaded of three alternating rounds; later rounds swung both ways. These benches spin across threads, so instruction counts can't measure them. Noise. One side effect:
track_empty_run/retired/8/512rose 4.6% (fresh and stale about 2%). Callgrind attributes it togroup::Handle::consumer, which this PR doesn't touch, now copying its return value twice. It appears with the datagram commit alone, so it is an LTO inlining shift, not new work.Impact
Validation
just check: fmt, shear, sort, clippy, and quest pass; the flake's VM-image build fails atunshare: write failed /proc/self/uid_mapon this host, unrelated to this change.just rs test -p kio -p moq-net -p moq-mux: 4,742 passed.just rs loom: kio 16/16 pass (re-run after the dead-waiter fix). moq-net'sa_front_sees_a_reader_returnexceeds loom's branch limit on base sources too, so it is not from this PR; its two longest models were stopped unfinished.quest check --base origin/main --branch quest/m1/release-perf/recheckpasses.Follow-ups
session_delivery_pacedstays highest at 1.77x. Attributing it needs a per-hop breakdown of the lite session driver, which is larger than this re-check.expiry::Wakes::landed(about 600 instructions per group, with the mutex taken even when nothing is parked) needs a memory-ordering argument against a parking reader, so it was left out.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
