Removes the uncalled items the dead-code audit found (moq-dev/moq#6166), finishing quest/m1/drop-dead-items.md.

Changes

  • moq-cli: drop the nvenc and nvdec Cargo feature aliases. They only enabled nvidia; moq-video and moq-transcode already dropped theirs.
  • moq-net: drop Version::uses_setup_negotiation.
  • moq-net: drop the cfg(test) helper track::Subscriber::assert_error.
  • Quest tree: delete the quest and its m1 link; mark these findings removed in the next dead-code audit's baselines.

Each item was re-checked against the whole tree (Rust, JS, the FFI bindings, build scripts, CI, and docs): only its own definition named it. AnnounceConsumer::assert_next_* stay, since model/origin.rs calls them.

Public API and wire impact

  • moq-cli: breaking. The nvenc/nvdec features are gone; enable nvidia. MIGRATE.md entry added.
  • moq-net: breaking. Version::uses_setup_negotiation is gone. MIGRATE.md entry added.
  • Wire: none.

Consumer

None by design: this deletes surface no consumer uses, so the m1 breaking release carries the break instead of a later one.

Drop moq-cli's `nvenc`/`nvdec` feature aliases (use `nvidia`),
`moq_net::Version::uses_setup_negotiation`, and the unused test helper
`track::Subscriber::assert_error`. Nothing in the repo, bindings included,
calls them.

Quest complete: the three uncalled items are removed, each re-checked for callers across the tree first (Rust, JS, FFI bindings, build scripts, CI, docs). AnnounceConsumer::assert_next_* stay since model/origin.rs calls them.

Checks: just check passed fmt, cargo doc, shear, sort, clippy (wasm and io-uring targets), quest, and drill; its flake module failed only because this sandbox cannot unshare to build the github-runner VM image, unrelated to this change. cargo clippy --locked --all-targets -p moq-net -p moq-cli -- -D warnings passed. Tests were not run locally; the change only deletes uncalled code.

No open decisions.

Walkthrough

The change removes Version::uses_setup_negotiation, the test-only Subscriber::assert_error helper, and the moq-cli nvenc and nvdec Cargo feature aliases. It adds migration notes for the removed method and feature aliases. It also updates dead-code audit records and removes the related quest entry and planning document.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 5386d

The intentional API and feature removals have appropriate migration guidance and no repository callers; the audit wording is also consistent.

### `Version::uses_setup_negotiation` is removed ([#6483](https://github.com/moq-dev/moq/pull/6483))

Match the version yourself: lite-01, lite-02, and moq-transport draft 14 negotiate the version in SETUP; every other version negotiates it through ALPN.

P1 Badge Direct migration code to branch on ALPN

For downstream moq-net callers following this migration advice, “match the version yourself” encourages matching the concrete lite and draft enum variants, which freezes the current draft list and conflicts with the crate's required external version-matching API. Tell callers to inspect Version::alpn() for moql or moq-00 instead, preserving the removed helper's behavior without branching on draft enums.
