WalkthroughThe m1 artifact-size audit and its required-list entry are removed. The m2 required-work list adds the audit. The m2 audit document describes recurrence rules and records shipping, native, WASM, and browser size measurements, attribution notes, and related quests. Priority: ⬇️ Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to

- Around line 63-64: Update the native measurement description in the audit-size
document to limit the cargo bloat statement to the ELF and shared-library rows,
or explicitly document that the C archive is an exception measured with cargo
build and is unstripped.
- Around line 141-142: Update the FFI profile discussion in the audit near
`moq_json` to describe the size-versus-throughput choice as open: the size
reduction is measured, but the throughput cost still requires benchmarking. Do
not characterize the overall tradeoff as measured.

Problem
The recurring audit needs a real Shipping sizes baseline, post-transport-erasure native attribution, and current WASM/browser compression measurements.
Approach
Record reproducible artifact/profile/source labels in the m2 successor, retire the completed m1 quest, and append the successor to m2 Required with a release-cut dependency.
The first post-link-fix Shipping sizes job succeeded at
33940b6e33. Its history contains one pre-erasure report, so it establishes a baseline rather than a trend. Preserve its artifact identities; no history reset or reporter change.Current local source
78e5b32945, pinned Rust 1.98.1, separate default-feature profiling builds:Current moq-net text attribution is 3.52/3.58/3.19 MB in relay/CLI/FFI. Erasure removed repeated transport drivers; earlier experiment sizes and shipping archives are explicitly separate from these local measurements. WASM attribution remains dominated by moq-net and includes new discovery, listing, resume, range and TRACKS behavior. Name-preserving diagnostic attribution is approximate and not a matched delta.
Using the same browser reporter as Shipping, first-load gzip grew net 5,539 B, hang 6,423 B, watch 6,188 B, watch-ui 6,170 B, publish 6,085 B. Metafiles locate growth in listing, pattern indexing, resume, subscriber, publisher and tracks; pako is unchanged. The isolated encoder adds 3,033 B gzip over decoder-only, retaining the accepted synchronous cost. Lazy CMAF remains 4,417 B. No new runtime fix is justified by these measurements.
Validation
quest check --base origin/main: 584 documents pass.just ci: pass, including quest/Markdown/shell/TOML/Nix/justfile/workflow checks, 10 alert tests and 5 relay harness tests.4381af6f07: clean. Raw reports, metafiles and logs are preserved in the isolated checkout.Impact
Alternatives
Do not replace synchronous compression or Frame.payload with async APIs for bundle savings. Do not remove UniFFI symbols or change native optimization profiles without the existing dedicated measurements. Hosted build times are not size/runtime evidence.
Follow-ups
The approved recurrence is
quest/m2/audit-size.md, gated by the release cut. It checks subsequent shipping reports and records the missing scheduled WASM coverage without changing the strict history set. Existing catalog-publish-once and FFI-size-profile quests retain their optimization scope. No maintainer decision remains in this run.(Written by GPT-6)
