quest: plan pure-Rust crypto, the C name clash, and the crate split rerun - #6659
JWT on graviola [M]: a graviola-based jsonwebtoken provider in moq-auth. This drops the rsa crate's Marvin exposure (RUSTSEC-2023-0071) and the duplicate RustCrypto generation.
moq-relay on graviola [L]: graviola for the x86_64/aarch64 release targets and aws-lc-rs elsewhere. moq-tokio refuses both providers at once, and CI builds moq-relay alone. The QUIC adapter stays until ctz/graviola#156 ships. The ChaCha20 slowdown is accepted and recorded.
Provider-neutral rustls-acme upstream [S]: moq carries the spike's patched copy until this lands. Posting upstream needs the maintainer's approval when it starts.
One C name per moq-ffi item [S], first in the C bindings epic. MoqAudioEncoder::finish and MoqAudioEncoderFinish both map to moq_audio_encoder_finish. Rust2's C generator derives collision-free names (for example, qualifying with the type) instead of a rename in moq-ffi. The work lands in rust2's fork, and this quest stands in until the fork ships it.
The changes add planning documents and required-quest entries for a C-name collision in moq-ffi, reassessing its UniFFI crate split, and using graviola and RustCrypto for C-free moq-relay release builds. The documents record proposed approaches, constraints, performance measurements, and follow-up work. They do not change implementation code.
Priority: Low
Merge Risk: Low · up to 4af4c
The planning quests need clearer release boundaries and packaging constraints, but the PR changes documentation only and remains mergeable with bounded follow-up.

to state that renaming an exported moq-ffi item changes its generated name
across all bindings, not only C, and distinguish that from the generator’s
C-name changes; keep the Wire impact as none.
Review comments at @quest/m2/ffi-crate-split.md:
- Around line 14-15: Update the ffi-crate split discussion around rust2#21 and
the #5460 harness to state that Swift supports same-named types only with one
module per crate, while the xcframework path combines crates into one module;
specify the supported Swift packaging path or make the split conditional on
changing the xcframework path.

to specify running cargo tree -i for each forbidden package and each release
target, naming the corresponding release triple so the aarch64 dependency graph
is checked even on an x86_64 host.

Merging with the maintainer's approval (2026-10-24), which also settled the two open calls: JWT on graviola lands before the relay, and the C name clash is fixed in rust2's C generator, not with a rename in moq-ffi.
New m2 epic pure-crypto/ (JWT on graviola, moq-relay on graviola, provider-neutral rustls-acme upstream), m1/c/name-clash.md, and m2/ffi-crate-split.md.
Checks: just ci passes (markdown lint included), quest check --base origin/main --branch plan/pure-crypto-followups passes from outside the head, CodeQL passes, and Codex had no findings on 61f90e0. CodeRabbit's three findings are fixed and replied to.

Problem
Three decisions the maintainer made on 2026-10-24 need moq quests:
Approach
rsacrate's Marvin exposure (RUSTSEC-2023-0071) and the duplicate RustCrypto generation.MoqAudioEncoder::finishandMoqAudioEncoderFinishboth map tomoq_audio_encoder_finish. Rust2's C generator derives collision-free names (for example, qualifying with the type) instead of a rename in moq-ffi. The work lands in rust2's fork, and this quest stands in until the fork ships it.moq-relay on graviola Requires JWT on graviola, so the spike's interim
rust_cryptoJWT backend never ships thersacrate.Impact
None; quest files only. Wire: none.
Alternatives
The crypto work could be one quest. The maintainer chose an epic so the relay can move while the rustls-acme change waits upstream.
Follow-ups
rust2's side (the benchmark's no-C check, the MIR spike, and the rest) is in its own PR: kixelated/rust2#29.
Decisions
relay-graviolarequiresjwt-graviola) / Land independentlyThe maintainer approved merging on 2026-10-24.
