quest: plan the overnight run's follow-ups - #6796
test-flakes-2/{cli-relay-load,ffi-audio-gap,uring-alloc-load}: moq-cli relay tests, FFI-publisher audio gaps in interop, and the moq-uring allocation test under load.
Per-group stats token scoping: not needed (below).
Decisions (maintainer, 2026-10-25)
Goal: turn the surviving follow-ups into quests, placed by priority.
✅ Yes, as triaged
Smaller set
Restore per-group stats token scoping after #6428?
Yes, via track-scoped claims
Per-group broadcasts
✅ Not needed. Keep one stats announcement per node; announcements per project blow up, and moq.pro's dash aggregates. moq.pro updates its path parser and configs when it bumps its pin.
✅ Other: park it as a quest to /quest-plan; explore extending moq-e2ee to sign content (not only encrypt) when peers don't trust each other and need proof.
Delegated to my recommendations: the m0/m1/m2 placement, fixing the BBR3 estimate in the estimator rather than in readers, and moq-video's env knobs becoming settings its binaries pass in.
Twenty-one new quests and four folded plans from the 2026-10-24 quest-spawn
run's follow-ups, verified against main. Items already covered, fixed in an
open PR, or untrue are dropped.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
This pull request adds required quest links and planning documents to the m0, m1, and m2 milestones. The plans cover release API reports, build and test lanes, authorization and session behavior, congestion, message handling, performance, statistics, and compatibility topics. The changes document goals, existing observations, and proposed investigations or implementation steps; they do not implement the described code changes.
Priority: Low
Merge Risk: Low · up to 9005a
This PR only adds planning documents, so nothing changes at runtime. A few plans have gaps that could mislead the future implementer, mainly the drop-set range and the no-async lane commands. Fixing them before merge is cheap, but none blocks the merge.

No actionable bugs found in this quest-only change. Separating suspected failures from demonstrated causes, reproducing before changing behavior and centralizing estimator fixes are sensible. BBR aging work appropriately requires upstream comparison before choosing an implementation.
Verification: changed plans and spot checks of feature-gating, ancillary-message decoding, BBR estimation/seeding and pre-SETUP tests. No tests or quest/Markdown checks run; the plans do not implement the proposed fixes.
Merge summary: quests-only PR (35 files under quest/), recording the 2026-10-24 overnight run's follow-ups with the maintainer's 2026-10-25 decisions from the body (triage as is, per-group stats token scoping not needed, P2P roster key parked as p2p/identity-plan).
Reviews on ee2afc9: Codex thumbs-up (no findings) and an OpenAI review with no actionable findings. CodeRabbit was rate-limited. quest check --base origin/main passes (559 documents). No conflicts with moq-dev/moq#6790 or moq-dev/moq#6707 yet; both are still open.

Define onset EIO handling without disabling restart escalation.
Specify how the implementation identifies a transient onset EIO. Confirm that repeated EIOs remain counted toward ERROR_LIMIT and still rebuild the output.

Replace the async-enabling lane commands. Do not add to them.
sh/rs/net-features.sh still runs cargo clippy --all-targets (line 16) and cargo nextest run --tests (line 18). Both commands build dev-dependencies. rs/moq-net/Cargo.toml lists moq-net as its own dev-dependency with features = ["fuzz"] (line 62). The fuzz feature is defined as fuzz = ["async"] (line 26). These commands can therefore keep async enabled. The planned --lib clippy line skips dev-dependencies, but it does not remove the existing lines.
Name the existing invocations that the plan replaces. Move every affected dev-dependency and test target, not only the fuzz tests. This includes the moq-json dev-dependency (rs/moq-net/Cargo.toml:59). Confirm the resolved feature graph for moq-json (rs/moq-json/Cargo.toml:19) before naming it as a cause of async leakage.

Require queue overflow and packet loss in the bufferbloat test.
The plan specifies a sub-bitrate rate and a finite queue, but it does not require the queue to overflow and drop packets. Add an explicit loss condition or assertion so the test exercises the required bufferbloat path. The repository guideline requires overflow to drop packets.

Limit this prerequisite to lock and cpu captures.
bench/profile.py refuses only lock and cpu captures without kernel.perf_event_paranoid=-1. Heap captures return before the sysctl check and need only jeprof. The current text says the script refuses to run without the setting, which is too broad.

Keep the real-relay test on the real relay.

Consumer::refresh performs one delimiter LIST for the archive prefix and one LIST per track. The plan models only the per-track calls. Include the prefix call so expected request counts and fixed per-refresh cost are correct.

Name the async-enabling lane steps to replace, keep the CLI fetch test on the real relay, require queue overflow in the BBR test path, sweep both archive axes, and pin down the ALSA onset EIO, probe target, perf-host, and drop-set wording.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
P2 — Bound the startup EIO exemption (quest/m2/audio-alsa-onset.md:13–15). Exempting every EIO before the first successful callback means a device repeatedly failing before any callback never reaches ERROR_LIMIT, so playback can remain dead without rebuilding. Require a bounded transient exemption, such as one qualifying startup EIO, and escalation for repeated pre-callback errors. This is the remaining case of CodeRabbit’s existing restart-escalation concern #6796 (review), not a duplicate inline finding.
Direction is otherwise improved: retaining real HTTP coverage, replacing async-enabling lane commands, and separating requested/effective probe targets clarify the contracts. The drop-set concern was clarified and withdrawn by its reviewer.
Verification: changed plans, review discussion and relevant audio restart/feature-lane code. No tests or Markdown checks run. These are planning changes, not implemented fixes.
The prior startup-EIO finding is fixed in quest/m2/audio-alsa-onset.md:13–15: only the first pre-callback EIO is exempt; repeated startup errors still count toward rebuilding. This bounded exception appropriately preserves recovery when playback never starts.
No new actionable bugs found. Verification: static planning delta against c77b606. No tests or Markdown checks run; the runtime fix remains future work.
The log lock profile from #6782 now requires the perf-host quest, which points back at it in place of the deleted kio log quest.
