Plans the follow-ups collected during a /quest-complete run (41 PRs landed) through /quest-plan.

New quests

m0:

m1:

Edits

  • quest/m0/test-flakes-2/ffi-audio-gap.md: adds the go -> c cell, which recurred during this run.
  • quest/m3/ci-host.md: drops the clause about checking check-without-userns.md. moq-dev/moq#6823 finished and deleted it.
  • Deletes quest/m0/ci/test-layout.md, which moq-dev/moq#6893 deprioritized. The decision recorded there is to keep inline unit tests unless a profile shows a win.

Not planned

  • Merge-gate benches: contradicts the 2026-10-24 decision in quest/m0/nightly/README.md that the PR gate keeps skipping benches.
  • quest merge --jump and disarming auto-merge on push: both become moot once quest/m0/ci/land.md replaces GitHub's merge queue.
  • Nightly fuzz recursion: already owned by quest/m0/nightly/send-overflow.md.
  • @moq/e2ee finish/abort: in progress in moq-dev/moq#6920.
  • Dart generator drift: not a bug. Main regenerates byte-for-byte; the local shell was stale from before moq-dev/moq#6720.
  • SC2043: not on main. The shell lane already covers test/**/*.sh.
  • CodeQL alert 59: a false positive. The flow carries public certificates or I/O errors only.
  • Declaring publint per package: dropped. It resolves from the root devDependencies, and js/common has no package.json.

Decisions

Round 1, test and CI quests

  • JS clock yield race ✅

  • c/moq MIGRATE + SC2043

cargo deny licenses

  • BSL-1.0 global, font licenses per-crate ✅
  • All per-crate
  • Drop the eframe features

path::Relative empty segments

  • Refuse ✅
  • Allow

#6648 API choices

  • Keep all three
  • Revisit in the quest
  • ✅ Other: "path::Invalid is kinda gross. rest are fine"

Path error type

  • path::Error ✅
  • Return moq_net::Error

Backports

  • Three quests in m0 ✅
  • One quest in m0
  • Three quests in m1

publint

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: b698d11

No actionable bugs found in this planning-only diff. The direction is sound: isolate release backports from main's API changes, route Unix acceptance through the existing credential gate, and reproduce the cold-copy case before changing indexing. The clock-owned yield hook is preferable to globally draining host tasks.

For the planned segmenter simplification, retain explicit_cuts_override_the_grid as a regression guard: its advance-declared cuts require both boundaries, so the single-cut equivalence proof must explicitly establish the production caller's timestamp/order invariant rather than assume it for arbitrary cut() calls.

Verification: static review of the quest changes and relevant HLS/fMP4 producer, yield/Manual clock, path, Unix-accept, release-flate and audit configuration code. No tests, builds or backports executed; the implementation and equivalence proofs remain future work.

Walkthrough

This change updates quest planning documents and required-item lists in the m0, m1, and m3 queues. It adds plans for release backports, a cargo-deny audit, JS host-task yields, strict paths, Unix socket acceptance, HLS segment cuts, and Rust-copy frame selection. It removes the unit-test layout planning item and document, updates the listed FFI audio-gap cases, and narrows the m3 CI-host follow-up.

Priority: Low

Merge Risk: Minimal · previous review 8912d

The plans now retain future segment cuts and describe the catalog compatibility impact. No identified issue remains that should block merging.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: a2681ac (delta from b698d11; base unchanged).

The added equivalence requirement and retained explicit_cuts_override_the_grid guard address my previous planning feedback. No new actionable bugs found in this five-line update.

The single-cut design remains conditional, not proven: quest/m1/segmenter-cuts.md:22-26 must be reconciled with container/fmp4/import.rs:1320-1345, which calls boundary(earliest) before reporting that run's frames. In particular, “latest reported frame” is not automatically the relevant ordering guarantee. This is the same pending-cut concern already recorded in the independent review, not a new finding. Preserve the regression and establish the caller invariant before committing to one timestamp.

Verification: static comparison and inspection of the previously reviewed caller/segmenter code only. No tests or builds run; no runtime fix is implemented in this PR.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 8912d11 (delta from a2681ac; base unchanged).

The catalog-JSON compatibility note addresses the existing strict-path finding. Retaining future cuts and both regression cases improves the segmenter plan, but its equivalence concern remains open:

[P2] quest/m1/segmenter-cuts.md:18-21 — do not compact against arbitrary frame PTS. The new rule still loses a required boundary when the next group overlaps the preceding group's content. For example, start group 0 at 0 ms; declare cut 10 and report a non-keyframe at 10 ms; declare cut 20 and report a non-keyframe at 20 ms; then start group 1 at 15 ms. Both cuts now collapse to 20, so the segmenter misses the boundary at 15 that the existing queue takes using cut 10. This is permitted: container/producer.rs:426-435 bounds a new keyframe by the previous group start, not its latest frame; fMP4 validates increasing DTS, not increasing PTS. Add this reordered/overlapping-group regression and compact only against a proven lower bound for future group starts, or specify a bounded policy that retains the required cuts. This extends the existing pending-cut finding, rather than duplicating an inline thread.

Direction: bounded storage is warranted, but latest-frame-based compaction is not yet equivalent. Static code/design inspection only; no tests or builds run, and no runtime implementation changes are in this PR.

Addressing the P2 on 8912d11: agreed, the latest frame is no lower bound on the next group start (Producer::write floors a keyframe only at the previous group start, and fMP4 checks DTS, not PTS), so no compaction is equivalent to the queue. b7c7716 drops the equivalence claim, records the 10, 20, then 15 case as a required test, and leaves the bounded drop policy as an open maintainer question in the quest. The "Bound segmenter cut()s" decision is unchanged.

Reviewed commit: b7c7716 (delta from 8912d11; base unchanged).

The prior P2 is addressed in the plan: quest/m1/segmenter-cuts.md removes latest-frame compaction, records the overlapping-group counterexample, and retains both regression requirements. No new actionable bugs found.

Direction is now sound for a planning quest: choose an explicit bounded-loss policy or prove a stronger reorder bound before implementing compaction. That policy decision remains open; this change does not fix the runtime queue growth or establish an equivalent bounded implementation.

Verification: static review of the documentation delta against the previously inspected producer/importer/segmenter behavior. No tests or builds run.

Merge summary for b7c7716. The recorded ✅ decisions are unchanged.

  • quest/m1/segmenter-cuts.md: drops the lone Option<Timestamp> plan. No compaction is equivalent to the queue, because the next group start is bounded only by the current one, not by the latest frame PTS. The quest now leaves the bounded drop policy as an open maintainer question, requires a test of cuts at 10 and 20 with a group at 15, and keeps explicit_cuts_override_the_grid as a regression guard.
  • quest/m1/api-audit/strict-paths.md: notes that hang catalogs carry Relative in JSON, so a catalog spelling one with a leading, trailing, or doubled / stops parsing, and that Path.normalizeRelative and the hang draft adopt the same rule.

The CodeRabbit and OpenAI findings are addressed. quest check --base origin/main passes.
