Plans the follow-ups that four PRs merged today left behind: moq-dev/moq#6689, moq-dev/moq#6890, moq-dev/moq#6942 and moq-dev/moq#6969.

New quests

Decisions (maintainer, 2026-10-28)

#6689 shared-PID timing gap and merge-and-subtract stats

  • ✅ One quest: count shared PIDs once in the shared parser
  • Two quests
  • Drop

#6890 send-depth in the merge gate

  • Gate only when moq-net changes
  • Every gate run
  • Nightly only
  • ✅ (Other) "nightly only if this is expensive, otherwise gate it". Measured: about 14 s cold and 9 s warm, against a 21-minute median for the 26% of gate runs that select moq-net. So it is gated, selected by sh/rs/select.sh.

#6969 flaky IETF-only SETUP test

  • ✅ m0 flake child
  • Drop

No new quest was added: quest/m1/js-setup-rejection.md already covers this test, and moq-dev/moq#7083 is fixing it.

#6969 lite-01..06 close cuts an unread final group

  • ✅ m1 quest
  • m2 quest
  • Drop

#6969 JS aborts and Rust finishes an ended track with an unsettled tail

  • ✅ m1, Rust aborts
  • m1, decide in the quest
  • Drop

Follow-on: the end signal also differs (Rust uses FIN, JS uses SUBSCRIBE_END)

  • ✅ Align it too: SUBSCRIBE_END on lite-05+, the FIN on lite-01..04
  • Decide in the quest
  • Abort only

Choices made without asking

  • The send-depth gate pins a dated nightly in the flake, since a floating nightly could fail unrelated PRs. Nightly's job uses the same pin.
  • The two lite quests sit in m1 after "Next Object on a cold Rust copy". The TS quest is last in its epic, and the send-depth quest is last in m0/ci.

Review in Change Stack →

Walkthrough

The PR adds documentation for a proposed conditional send-depth CI gate. It adds two lite-track quests to the m1 list, covering unsettled tails after session death and unread final groups during graceful close. It also adds a shared PID statistics quest to the TypeScript reliability list. These changes document plans and requirements; they do not implement the described behavior.

Priority: Low

Merge Risk: Low · up to 47cb8

The change is documentation-only. The lite-track-end quest should name the session-close path for unsettled tails so the later implementation does not leave a clean-finish hole. Nothing else blocks merging.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 47cb845

No actionable bugs found in these follow-up plans. The direction is sound: shared-PID accounting removes merge/subtract complexity; lite termination separates a declared end from a settled tail; the legacy drain quest explicitly stops rather than inventing a timer or changing published wire behavior. Selecting the pinned-nightly check through the existing dependency-aware gate is appropriately scoped.

Verification: static review of all seven changed documents, relevant Rust/JS termination and TS accounting code, send-depth/selection scripts, and the referenced follow-up context. No tests, transport reproductions, or timing measurements were run; implementation and performance claims remain to be validated by the quests.

Merge summary:

  • Merged main into the branch (conflict-free; the PR showed as conflicting against the newer main). Head is now 47cb845.
  • Codex reviewed 43a0bd7 with no findings (👍); the only change since is that base merge. The automated review on 47cb845 also found nothing.
  • quest check --base origin/main passes. No decisions were reopened.
  • moq-dev/moq#6890 is still open, so send-depth-gate.md keeps no Required link to quest/m0/nightly/send-overflow.md, as planned.

- Rust aborts like JS, since `finish()` on an unsettled tail reports
incomplete content as complete. Its cleanup always calls `abort` and relies
on `track::Producer::abort`'s existing downgrade when the declared end
settled.

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Cover the ServeMode::Tail session-close path.

The decision specifies aborting through cleanup, but it does not state how to change ServeMode::Tail. When tail settlement is still pending and the session closes, that path returns ServeEnd::Finished; TrackServeRun then calls serve_loop.serving.finish(). An unsettled tail can therefore still finish cleanly. Route this branch through abort and add a regression that reaches it. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
