feat(auth)!: share request-token grants and end attachment leases - #7211
moq-transport request tokens were verified per request, ignored on several request types, and their auth-server leases could only report the connection's end.
Approach
Share one token record per session while naming requests remain, with independent verdict readers and no contribution to session scope. The index lives on the session's link, outside the auth state whose locks wake every permit waiter.
Gate supported incoming request types on their own tokens, including FETCH, TRACK_STATUS, discovery, and paused PUBLISH offers.
Bind SUBSCRIBE and PUBLISH_NAMESPACE updates to shared request-local authority, including a first token, token plus pause, and queued resume updates. Keep stream credit until pending verification releases it.
A SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE update carrying a token is verified without stalling its stream: announcements, withdrawals, and NAMESPACE_DONE keep flowing while the verdict is pending, and later updates wait unread under the stream's flow control so replies stay in order.
A joining FETCH follows its subscription's live request binding: once the subscription names a token, even through a later update, the FETCH is held to that grant alone and ends with it, past the subscription's end (main's model from moq-dev/moq#6999).
Give HTTP attachments an auth identity and report their own end before the connection end. Count a JWT while any attachment on that connection uses it.
Impact
Breaking HTTP auth contract:Client::attach sends event: "attach" and a fresh auth id. Revalidation and end retain that id. Migrate auth servers to accept attach, release only the named credential on an end carrying auth, and release the connection on an end without it. Older servers refuse attach before admission.
Rust adds Event::Attach and Request::auth; JavaScript's request schema mirrors them. Attached lease reported() waits for its own end report.
No MoQ framing or negotiation change. Rust incoming request tokens use their own grant; repeating a token across open requests shares verification and lifetime, and a token whose verdict the acceptor already finished verifies again. Tokens remain isolated from session scope. Outgoing and non-Rust request-token surfaces remain in their existing quests.
A shared token's verification holds the slot of the request that first named it until the acceptor answers or the last naming request ends, rather than each request's own slot.
Decisions
HTTP attachment lifecycle: ✅ keep explicit attach with an auth identity (recommended); use a separate lease API. Selected under the user's AFK authorization on 2026-10-29. Older servers refuse before admission; migration is listed under Impact.
Tokens per request: ✅ retain the existing one-token limit (recommended); combine multiple tokens. One authority per request keeps isolation and renewal unambiguous.
Updates: ✅ introduce or replace request-local authority, including token plus pause (recommended); keep refusal paths. Naming a token never widens session scope.
Namespace update verification (maintainer, 2026-11-01, design change): ✅ fix the CodeRabbit finding in this PR, keeping the pending verdict in the namespace loop's state (recommended); defer it to a follow-up.
Joining FETCH (newer decision followed): main's moq-dev/moq#6999, merged after this PR's checkpoint, lets an answered joining FETCH outlive its subscription under the subscription's grant. The merge keeps that, replacing this PR's earlier "follow the parent without holding its lease" model, and extends it to a token named later by an update.
Alternatives
Independent connection ids for token leases would change connection accounting. Overloading the existing connection end could let an older server end the whole connection. The explicit attachment lifecycle fails closed against older servers.
Changes in this iteration
Merge pass 5 (after landing stopped with head_moved; the branch conflicted with main):
Merged main twice (21615aa, 0f9f853). Main's moq-dev/moq#7239 removes MoQ Epoch from moq-transport. The conflicts in fetch.rs, publisher.rs, and subscriber.rs keep this PR's request-token decoding, Namespaces verification state (abandon_verification, rescope), and PUBLISH_NAMESPACE update binding, and drop the epoch parameter, the restart replaces check, and the epoch tests with main. One test this PR adds (a token FETCH) drops its epoch field and the handle_stream flag main removed.
Declined CodeRabbit's nitpick to cut the SETUP credential bullet in doc/concept/standard.md: the error codes, refusal rules, and reconnect behavior it would move predate this PR on main, which only rewrites the per-request lifetime sentences. Restructuring the page is a separate docs change.
Merge pass 4 (after quest land stopped on failed_checks: batch checks failed with E0433: cannot find module or crate moq_clock once moq-dev/moq#7027 moved moq-clock into kio::clock):
Merged main. Every moq_clock use this PR adds is now kio::clock / #[kio::test]. The five conflicts in publisher.rs and subscriber.rs were main's rename against this PR's edits (checked mechanically: main's side equals the base with only the rename), resolved to this PR's side with the rename.
The automated review on 5aad955 (review) found that a failed write in the SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE loop returned past abandon_verification, releasing the stream's credit while the acceptor still held a pending token. run_namespaces now runs the loop (forward_namespaces) and then always drains a pending verification. The local review then found the same leak through the request's lifetime guard, which dropped the whole loop when its token ended: the guard now wraps only forward_namespaces, and abandon_verification keeps the credit in Namespaces::abandoned until released, so a drain the guard cancels is finished by the cleanup outside it.
New tests: a_failed_write_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers, an_ended_token_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers, an_ended_token_does_not_cut_short_a_withdrawal_verification_drain, each confirmed to fail without its fix. The test transport gains Log::fail_writes to fail send-stream writes.
Merge pass 3 (after landing stopped with head_moved):
run_namespaces no longer awaits admit_request inline for a SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE update carrying a token (review). The pending verdict lives in Namespaces::verifying and is polled beside the grant, the stream, and the origin, so announcements, withdrawals, and a NAMESPACE_DONE from session-scope narrowing go out while it waits. While a verdict is pending the loop reads no further update, watching the stream only for withdrawal (as admit_request did), so later updates wait under the stream's flow control and are answered in order. An earlier draft queued them in memory; the local review found that unbounded (round 1). A withdrawal mid-verification still keeps the stream credit until the acceptor lets go. An admitted token still authorizes beyond the local scope.
New tests: a_pending_update_token_does_not_hold_up_announcements, updates_behind_a_pending_token_are_answered_in_order, narrowing_withdraws_while_an_update_token_is_pending, a_withdrawn_namespace_update_keeps_its_stream_until_the_application_answers (the last confirmed to fail with the credit wait removed).
Merged main twice: a hand-resolved conflict in subscriber.rssubscribe_once (keeps this PR's request gate and main's session work guard from moq-dev/moq#7462), then moq-dev/moq#7284, which removed write_publish_error; the token PUBLISH refusal in subscriber/tracks.rs now uses main's buffer_error + deliver.
Merge pass 2 (after quest land stopped on a merge conflict):
Main's moq-dev/moq#7236 refuses every inbound SUBSCRIBE_TRACKS with NOT_SUPPORTED and deletes ietf/publisher/tracks.rs. The merge accepts the deletion, so token-gated listings and the PUBLISHes a token-admitted SUBSCRIBE_TRACKS sent are gone with it. NamespaceUpdate keeps its request token and takes main's non-generic form.
The RequestGrant observer machinery (observe, observe_as, Gate::token_observer, the renewal counter and source link) served only those listed PUBLISHes, so it is removed with its tests, fixing the dead-code clippy failure on ec83acc (review).
The new relay test request_token_lease_ends_before_the_connection_and_reopens_later uses moq_clock::timeout, per main's clock lint (moq-dev/moq#7329).
41f1de5 merges the fixer's ec83acc with the ours strategy: its tree equals the reviewed e7ae6c5.
Merge pass 1:
Merge pass (/quest-merge), addressing the reviews posted on 574da4a and one local review finding:
Gate::poll_permit read the session permit and registered its wakeup under two locks, so a session change between them could advance the epoch without its permit. It now reads both through Link::poll_permit alone (review).
An observed grant, such as a PUBLISH under a token listing or the FETCH joined to it, copied its source's verdict and ended with a token the source had already renewed away from. Observers now adopt their source's renewals and end with its end latch (review).
A SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE whose token ended after REQUEST_OK wrote a post-OK REQUEST_ERROR. It now ends the stream as the request's guard does (review). Its guard also follows a first token that an update names (local review round 1).
A refused update token on a listed PUBLISH now answers REQUEST_ERROR, then PUBLISH_DONE UPDATE_FAILED. It ends the grant first, so a FETCH joined under it stops even when the answer waits on credit (review, follow-up).
A refused PUBLISH token finishes its stream so the refusal is delivered (review).
Merged main (conflict-free), which picks up moq-dev/moq#7245 so cargo works in nested checkouts.
The optional pullfrog check failed because its model timed out (run). It posted no findings.
Fixed: a joining FETCH ignored a token its subscription's update named later; PUBLISHes under a token-admitted SUBSCRIBE_TRACKS ran on the session scope; their joining FETCHes ignored the token, then ignored the token narrowing away from the track; a bound-token permit never reported the token ending; a finished verdict was shared instead of re-verified.
Performance: the shared-token benchmark found the token index in the handle's kio::Shared state, so every request naming or releasing a token woke every announce route. 32 tokens × 32 requests took 178 ms per round against main's 14.6 ms; with the index on the link it takes 32.7 ms.
Deleted the finished quest quest/m1/ietf-token-auth.md and its links.

New regressions: an_observer_follows_its_sources_renewal, an_observer_ends_with_its_source, a_guard_follows_a_grant_named_later. a_joining_fetch_on_a_token_listed_publish_follows_the_token now also covers a refused renewal.
just ci origin/main: passed (876 s wall: check/test rs, rs_shapes, js, drafts, markdown, gh, quest, shell, toml, nix, justfile).

Round 1 (head 2493c47): the SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE lifetime guard dropped run_namespaces with a verification pending, bypassing its cleanup. Fixed in c7d67b1 (an_ended_token_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers).
Round 2 (head c7d67b1): the withdrawal path's drain still ran inside the guard and lost the credit if cancelled. Fixed in 5505939 (an_ended_token_does_not_cut_short_a_withdrawal_verification_drain).
Merge pass 3: Codex (quest review --deep --new), gpt-6-astra, medium effort, new session after the design change.
Round 1 (head 8de5a32): the in-memory queue of updates behind a pending verdict was unbounded, and reading the stream ran ahead of verification. Fixed in bca5c01: no update is read while a verdict is pending.
Round 3 (head c303c72, main merge with a hand-resolved conflict): no findings.
Round 4 (head 5aad955, main merge plus the write_publish_error fix): no findings. Design checkpoint: nothing left to fix, so no further rethink is needed.
Merge pass 2: Codex (quest review --deep), gpt-6-astra, medium effort, new session, round 1 on e7ae6c5 (hand-resolved merge of main): no findings. Head 41f1de5 has the identical tree (empty diff from e7ae6c5).

Round 1 (head 47c5515): SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE's lifetime guard captured the token at REQUEST_OK, so a first token named by an update was checked only between events. Fixed in 2a864aa (RequestGrant::guard_named, a_guard_follows_a_grant_named_later).
Online review on 2a864aa (review): the refused-renewal path wrote REQUEST_ERROR before ending the grant, so withheld credit or a failed write kept a joined FETCH running. Fixed in dc05707.

SUBSCRIBE_TRACKS honored its token for listing but not for the PUBLISHes it sent: fixed in 7accdd2 (a_listing_token_holds_its_publishes).
A paused PUBLISH accepts a token but a forwarding one refuses it, so it cannot be renewed in place: not changed. A forwarding PUBLISH refusing a token predates this PR (apply_subscription_update, "AUTHORIZATION TOKEN on a locally initiated PUBLISH") and fails closed; listed under Follow-ups.
A bound-token Gate::poll_permit never reported the token ending: fixed in 7accdd2 (a_bound_token_ending_is_a_new_permit).
A shared token keeps the first naming request's slot: intended, since one verification holds one slot, and now stated under Impact.
A token whose grant the acceptor dropped stayed refused while a naming request lingered: fixed in 7accdd2 (a_token_the_acceptor_dropped_verifies_again).
Coverage gaps: SUBSCRIBE_TRACKS with a token and joining FETCH after a later token are now covered. A paused-PUBLISH token test is a follow-up.
Follow-ups
stack::debug_relay_load_and_run_fit_windows_stack overflows its 1 MiB stack on main under cargo nextest --all-features (passes in just ci's feature set).
Profile the remaining 1.5–2.2× multi-token gap in auth/request_tokens (per-announce guard polling on the shared verdict is the likely cost).
Accept a token renewal on a forwarding PUBLISH, or refuse it consistently while paused, and add a serve-level test for a token on a paused PUBLISH offer.
quest review --harness claude fails with "not logged in" when CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR points at a profile without a stored login. It could explain which profile it checked.

A moq-transport request token is one auth per distinct token
feat(auth)!: share request-token grants and end attachment leases
Oct 29, 2026
Adopts main's joined-FETCH model (#6999): an answered joining
FETCH holds its subscription's request grant and ends when the grant does,
including a refused renewal latched by RequestGrant::end. The request
binding hands out its current grant at join time, replacing the parent
`named` follower. A refused renewal while paused now ends the grant the
same way, writing REQUEST_ERROR after the guard.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ames
The join saved the subscription's grant when it registered, so a token a
REQUEST_UPDATE named later never reached a joining FETCH: it stayed on the
session scope the token replaced. The join now shares a slot-free follower
of the subscription's request binding, and the FETCH switches to the named
gate and the token's lifetime once the binding names one.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A SUBSCRIBE_TRACKS its own token admitted listed broadcasts under that
token, but each PUBLISH it sent ran on a fresh session-scoped gate: one the
scope never covered ended at once, and one it did kept forwarding after the
token was revoked. Each PUBLISH now binds an observer of the listing's
token.
A bound gate's permit also reports the token ending, so a caller reading
permits alone sees the empty limit, and a token whose verdict the acceptor
already finished verifies again rather than sharing the finished one with a
naming request on its way out.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A PUBLISH that a token listing sent saved its join without that token, so
a joining FETCH on it fell back to the session scope: refused where only
the token covered it, and blind to the token's revocation where the scope
did. The join now carries the PUBLISH gate's token.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The join inherited the listing's discovery grant, whose coverage only asks
that some subscribe pattern remain, so narrowing the token away from the
track left an answered joining FETCH sending while the PUBLISH stopped.
`RequestGrant::observe_as` watches the grant as a request of its own, and
the join observes it as a SUBSCRIBE of the PUBLISH's namespace.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Every mutable lock of the handle's state wakes everything waiting on the
session's permits, such as each announce's route. Indexing request tokens
there woke every route each time a request named or released a token, so
a session with T tokens over R announces polled O(T*R) routes per token:
32 tokens over 32 announces each took 178 ms per round against main's
14.6 ms. The index now lives on the link behind its own mutex: 32.7 ms.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps REQUEST_UPDATE's AUTHORIZATION TOKEN on the namespace update main
made crate-visible, and follows main's rename of `poll_unused` to
`poll_wanted_changed` (#7036) where a refused discovery token
waits for its verification credit.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The model never responded, so Pullfrog stopped this run after 2 minutes. The request went out but nothing came back. This is usually temporary, so re-trigger to try again.
One actionable P2 finding: the token-bound permit path can consume a concurrent session-permission update without applying its permit (inline).
Overall direction is sound: shared request-local grants keep credentials out of session scope, and explicit attachment identities make lease termination unambiguous. The additional binding/lifetime machinery is justified; keep permit snapshot and notification registration consistent rather than maintaining two independently read snapshots. The documented HTTP auth-server migration and remaining multi-token performance gap still need deployment/performance follow-through.
First published review here; no earlier automated findings to reconcile. Static inspection of auth state, request/FETCH/discovery wiring, HTTP lease accounting, JS contract and regression tests, including independent passes. I did not run builds, tests, benchmarks or interoperability checks.
The changes add credential-specific attach events and end reports to the auth-server contract and session lifecycle. They add request authorization-token fields to supported MoQ messages and implement per-token verification, grant scope, renewal, and termination across publisher and subscriber request flows. The changes also update tests, benchmarks, and documentation for these contracts and behaviors.
Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 55059
This PR changes how request tokens are verified, shared and ended, and how attachment leases are reported. No concrete behavioral defect remains open at the current head, and the previously raised concerns appear addressed. The one remaining note is about trimming a documentation bullet, so merge risk is minimal.

Explanation
The title "feat(auth)!: share request-token grants and end attachment leases" matches the main changes in the raw summary and objectives. The changeset shares request-token verification and grants across open requests naming the same token (rs/moq-net/src/auth.rs, ietf/publisher.rs, subscriber.rs). It also adds the attach event and per-credential end reporting for HTTP attachments (rs/moq-auth/src/client.rs, serve.rs, request.rs, js/auth/src/contract.ts). The title is specific and conventional. It does not list every detail, which is acceptable. The breaking-change marker (!) matches the documented breaking HTTP auth contract change.

- Gate::poll_permit reads the session permit with the epoch it counts, so a
session change between two reads is never counted without its permit.
- An observer of a request grant adopts the renewals its source accepts and
ends with its source, instead of ending with the replaced token.
- A refused token on a listed PUBLISH's update answers REQUEST_ERROR, then
PUBLISH_DONE UPDATE_FAILED, and ends a FETCH joined under it.
- A SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE whose token ends after REQUEST_OK ends its stream
without a post-OK REQUEST_ERROR.
- A refused PUBLISH token finishes the stream so the refusal is delivered.

The request's lifetime guard captured the gate's token at REQUEST_OK, so a
first token an update named was only checked between events. A peer
withholding stream credit kept the request alive past that token's end.
The guard now watches a shared slot the update fills.

Reviewed commit: 2a864aa, compared with 574da4a and separated from the main-branch merge.
Fixed: the prior permit/epoch race now consumes every permit before advancing its epoch. Observer renewal propagation, refusal-stream finishing, and the late-first-token namespace guard are good targeted improvements.
P2 — refusal cleanup still depends on writable stream credit:rs/moq-net/src/ietf/publisher/tracks.rs:1115–1121 awaits write_subscribe_error before grant.end. The helper awaits poll_flush, so blocked stream credit postpones the end; a write error returns through ? without ending the grant at all. For a token-listed PUBLISH with an already-answered joining FETCH, pause the PUBLISH and send a refused token renewal: the FETCH can continue under the old grant while the listing still holds that shared token. Move grant.end(refusal.clone()) before the error write, and cover blocked/error writes with a joined-FETCH regression. This is a remaining cleanup gap in the earlier refusal-path finding, whose REQUEST_ERROR/PUBLISH_DONE ordering is now corrected, rather than a duplicate of that wire-order finding.
Overall direction remains sound; cancellation should take effect before fallible network reporting. Static delta and surrounding-code review, including an independent request-wiring pass. No builds, tests, benchmarks or interoperability checks run.

I traced the new Namespaces::verifying state machine, the credit/released handshake in auth.rs, and the error/withdrawal exits, and found no new actionable issues.
Reworked run_namespaces so an update whose request token is still being verified no longer stalls the loop: the pending verdict lives in Namespaces::verifying and is polled beside withdrawals, the grant, and origin events, so advertisements, withdrawals, and a narrowing NAMESPACE_DONE keep flowing while it waits.
Read no further namespace update while a verdict is pending, so later updates wait under the stream's flow control and are answered in order; a withdrawal mid-verification still holds the request's stream credit until the acceptor answers.
Extracted rescope (move to a new prefix, then REQUEST_OK) and abandon_verification (drop the verdict, then wait for the acceptor), and added regressions covering pending-token announcements, ordered updates, narrowing withdrawal, and the withdrawal credit hold.
Adopted main's request_stream::buffer_error + deliver for the token-PUBLISH refusal (#7284) and kept main's session work guard in subscribe_once.
Reworded the shared-token accounting in doc/concept/standard.md and the attach/auth contract in doc/bin/relay/auth.md.

…iled write
A fallible step of the SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE loop, such as a NAMESPACE write to a stopped stream, returned past the verification cleanup, dropping the request's stream and its credit while the acceptor still held the token. Every exit of the loop now waits for the acceptor to let go.

…en ends
The SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE lifetime guard dropped the whole loop, the request's stream included, when the token it watches ended, so a renewal still being verified lost its stream credit early. run_namespaces now guards only the loop and drains a pending verification after any exit.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Abandoning a namespace update's verification took its credit out of the loop's state before waiting, so a token ending during the origin-ended drain released the stream early. The credit now stays in Namespaces until the acceptor lets go, and run_namespaces' cleanup finishes the wait.

Merged main and converted every moq_clock use this PR adds to kio::clock / #[kio::test], after moq-dev/moq#7027. This fixes the E0433: cannot find module or crate moq_clock failure that stopped the quest land batches.
Fixed the P2 from the automated review on 5aad9555cc: a failed write in the SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE loop skipped the verification cleanup. Two related leaks the local review found are fixed too: the token guard dropping the loop, and a cancelled drain. Each has a regression test confirmed to fail without its fix.

Incremental pass over 5aad9555c → 55059394c: the three merge-pass-4 fixes for request-token verification credit, plus the main merge that adopts kio::clock. All prior review feedback is addressed; no new actionable issues.
Made a cancelled verification drain safe: abandon_verification now parks the credit in Namespaces::abandoned before awaiting the acceptor, so a drain the request's lifetime guard cancels is finished by run_namespaces' cleanup.
Split run_namespaces into a guard wrapper plus forward_namespaces, so the named-token guard covers only the loop and every exit, a failed NAMESPACE write included, drains a pending verification, keeping the request's stream credit until the acceptor answers.
Added three regressions (a_failed_write_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers, an_ended_token_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers, an_ended_token_does_not_cut_short_a_withdrawal_verification_drain) and Log::fail_writes in the test transport.
Adopted main's moq_clock → kio::clock rename across the touched tests.

Reviewed commit: 5505939, compared with 5aad955, separating inherited main changes and the clock rename.
Fixed: the previous namespace verification-credit finding is resolved. run_namespaces now owns the stream and cleanup outside the guarded forwarding future; abandon_verification retains interrupted drain credit in Namespaces::abandoned. Failed writes, token expiry, and expiry during withdrawal cleanup therefore reach the drain without releasing the request early. The three new regressions target those paths.
No new actionable bugs found in this delta. The direction is sound: one outer cleanup boundary plus explicit retained credit is simpler and safer than duplicating cleanup at every fallible exit. Static delta and surrounding-code inspection, including an independent cleanup pass; no builds or tests run.
Cut the expanded SETUP credential bullet down to what a reader does.
This one bullet absorbed the whole request-token lifecycle. It now lists token types, error codes (NOT_SUPPORTED, MALFORMED_AUTH_TOKEN, UNKNOWN_AUTH_TOKEN_ALIAS, AUTH_TOKEN_CACHE_OVERFLOW), refusal conditions, per-request renewal rules, lease reporting, and reconnect behavior. The guidelines call doc/ a feature entry point. They say error codes and edge cases belong in the API docs and drafts, and that you should cut something when a page grows.
Keep these points in the bullet:
Rust verifies each distinct request token once while an open request names it.
The grant covers only requests that name the token and never widens the session.
Expiry or revocation ends every request naming it, and a later request verifies it again.
JavaScript ignores request tokens.
Move the rest to draft-lcurley-moq-auth.md or the relay auth page, and link to it. This covers the refusal codes, the empty and typed-token rules, PUBLISH_NAMESPACE subtree coverage, the joining FETCH rule, the discovery filter, and the reconnect rules.
As per coding guidelines: "Leave method and field lists, wire encodings, error codes, and per-version accounting to the API docs and drafts. Link to them." and "A fix, a new knob, or an edge case belongs in the API doc."

Main's #7239 removes MoQ Epoch from moq-transport. The conflicts in
fetch.rs, publisher.rs and subscriber.rs keep this PR's request tokens and
namespace verification state and drop the epoch parameters, the restart
replacement check and the epoch tests with main.

Declining CodeRabbit's nitpick to cut the SETUP credential bullet in doc/concept/standard.md. The error codes (NOT_SUPPORTED, MALFORMED_AUTH_TOKEN, UNKNOWN_AUTH_TOKEN_ALIAS, AUTH_TOKEN_CACHE_OVERFLOW), refusal rules, and reconnect behavior it would move are already in that bullet on main. This PR only rewrites the per-request lifetime sentences. Splitting the page belongs in its own docs change, not in this auth change.

Incremental pass over 55059394c → 0f9f8538f: two merges of main and their conflict resolutions in the request-token paths. Nothing authored by the PR changed; the only conflicts were main's MoQ Epoch removal laid over this PR's token code, and the PR's logic survives intact.
Merged main twice. #7239 removed MoQ Epoch, so epoch is dropped from Fetch, TrackStatus, Held, and Namespaces (the epochs field and replaces check go with it); the joining-FETCH epoch malformed check is gone with the field it tested.
Preserved the PR's request-token machinery across the merge: Namespaces' token/verifying/abandoned, run_namespaces/forward_namespaces/abandon_verification/rescore, the PUBLISH_NAMESPACE RequestBinding, and every request-token regression the PR added.
Adopted main's handle_stream signature (flag dropped) and kio::clock/#[kio::test] rename in the touched tests.
Aligned quest/m1/README.md with main (dropped the completed ietf-epoch-cut link, added ietf-fill-end-cancel); no dangling links remain.

Problem
moq-transport request tokens were verified per request, ignored on several request types, and their auth-server leases could only report the connection's end.
Approach
authidentity and report their own end before the connection end. Count a JWT while any attachment on that connection uses it.Impact
Client::attachsendsevent: "attach"and a freshauthid. Revalidation and end retain that id. Migrate auth servers to acceptattach, release only the named credential on an end carryingauth, and release the connection on an end without it. Older servers refuseattachbefore admission.Event::AttachandRequest::auth; JavaScript's request schema mirrors them. Attached leasereported()waits for its own end report.Decisions
attachwith anauthidentity (recommended); use a separate lease API. Selected under the user's AFK authorization on 2026-10-29. Older servers refuse before admission; migration is listed under Impact.Alternatives
Independent connection ids for token leases would change connection accounting. Overloading the existing connection end could let an older server end the whole connection. The explicit attachment lifecycle fails closed against older servers.

One test this PR adds (a token FETCH) drops itsepochfield and thehandle_streamflag main removed.SETUPcredential bullet indoc/concept/standard.md: the error codes, refusal rules, and reconnect behavior it would move predate this PR on main, which only rewrites the per-request lifetime sentences. The local review then found the same leak through the request's lifetime guard, which dropped the whole loop when its token ended: the guard now wraps onlyforward_namespaces, andabandon_verificationkeeps the credit inNamespaces::abandoneduntil released, so a drain the guard cancels is finished by the cleanup outside it.a_failed_write_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers,an_ended_token_keeps_a_verifying_update_stream_until_the_application_answers,an_ended_token_does_not_cut_short_a_withdrawal_verification_drain, each confirmed to fail without its fix. The test transport gainsLog::fail_writesto fail send-stream writes.Merge pass 3 (after landing stopped with
head_moved):run_namespacesno longer awaitsadmit_requestinline for a SUBSCRIBE_NAMESPACE update carrying a token (review). The pending verdict lives inNamespaces::verifyingand is polled beside the grant, the stream, and the origin, so announcements, withdrawals, and a NAMESPACE_DONE from session-scope narrowing go out while it waits. While a verdict is pending the loop reads no further update, watching the stream only for withdrawal (asadmit_requestdid), so later updates wait under the stream's flow control and are answered in order. An earlier draft queued them in memory; the local review found that unbounded (round 1). A withdrawal mid-verification still keeps the stream credit until the acceptor lets go. An admitted token still authorizes beyond the local scope.a_pending_update_token_does_not_hold_up_announcements,updates_behind_a_pending_token_are_answered_in_order,narrowing_withdraws_while_an_update_token_is_pending,a_withdrawn_namespace_update_keeps_its_stream_until_the_application_answers(the last confirmed to fail with the credit wait removed).subscriber.rssubscribe_once(keeps this PR's request gate and main's session work guard from moq-dev/moq#7462), then moq-dev/moq#7284, which removedwrite_publish_error; the token PUBLISH refusal insubscriber/tracks.rsnow uses main'sbuffer_error+deliver.Merge pass 2 (after
