Finishes quest/m0/model-routing/review-score.md: every quest review round now reports a score from 0 to 10 for how ready the head is to land, with one sentence on why.

Summary

  • src/cli/review.ts: SCHEMA requires an integer score (0 to 10) and a rationale. The new verdict() (it replaces findings()) checks both, so a reply without a valid score or with an empty rationale fails the same way a malformed reply does. The scale is in the prompt every round shares: 10 lands as is, 7 to 9 lands after the findings are fixed, 4 to 6 needs rework, 0 to 3 is the wrong approach, and a head with no findings can still score below 10. The plain output prints score <n> <rationale> just before findings <n>, and --json's Round has score and rationale.
  • src/runner/job.ts: the runner's review note to the agent includes the score and rationale, and its report to kix (ctx.reviewed) sends both.
  • cloudflare/src/jobs/review.ts: the Worker requires an integer score from 0 to 10 and a non-blank rationale on every runner review report. Prose past its bound (the rationale, and a finding's file, title, or body) is cut to fit, ending in …, instead of refusing the report, so a round quest review accepted is always recorded. The App's quest review check run titles itself <findings>, scored N/10 and leads its text with the rationale, fenced like the findings because it is model text. The conclusion still depends only on the findings. cloudflare/GITHUB.md describes the record.
  • assets/CONTEXT.md: the ## Review record has the round's score and rationale. A score never blocks; the findings and their refutations still decide the loop.
  • assets/skills/review.md: /quest-review's summary has the last round's score.
  • README and quest review --help describe the score.
  • Deletes the quest and removes its links from the model-routing epic, usage, and council.

Choices made without asking

  • The rationale goes on the same score line, with whitespace collapsed, so the output keeps one record per line.
  • A runner's review score shows in the check run's title, and its rationale in the check's text. The summary only names the reviewer.
  • The Worker cuts overlong review prose instead of mirroring its bounds into SCHEMA (see CodeRabbit's thread below). It also accepts a blank finding file or title, as quest review does; it still refuses more than 100 findings or a malformed severity or line.
  • The Worker refuses a runner report without a score instead of accepting older runners' reports: AGENTS.md says to skip backwards compatibility while nothing is in production.

Decisions

  • How should moq-dev/quest#491 continue after the third-round checkpoint? ✅ Continue: review the new head in the existing session (round 4). Rejected: keeping the score only in the local output and PR record and dropping the Worker plumbing; dropping scoring. Settled by the maintainer in /quest-complete on 2026-11-04.

Validation

  • just check: pass.
  • just test: pass (CLI 1076 passed, 5 skipped; Worker 538 passed).
  • quest check --fix: ok.

Models

  • Size: S
  • Implementer: Claude Code, claude-opus-5-5, medium effort

Review

  • Reviewer: Codex, gpt-6.1-sol, medium effort (size S, per moq-dev/quest#493's review by size; rounds 1 to 4 ran at xhigh), session 01a1a875.
  • Round 5, head 9770aa5, score 10: "The merge resolutions preserve scoring and size-based review metadata with no remaining findings; targeted checks passed, while full suites were blocked by the read-only sandbox." Findings: none. This head merges main (moq-dev/quest#493, moq-dev/quest#492) with five hand-resolved conflicts: test/review.test.ts's imports, assets/CONTEXT.md's ## Models and ## Review record paragraphs, quest review --help's output sentence (size line and score both), and the model-routing epic's and council's link lists, where each side deleted its own finished quest's link.
  • Round 4, head 77c0806, score 10, no findings: it covered the earlier merge of main (a hand-resolved conflict in src/runner/job.ts's review note, keeping the score and main's "every third round") and the fix for CodeRabbit's thread.
  • Earlier rounds: round 1 (score 9) found that runner review scores never reached the GitHub record, fixed by sending both fields and recording them in the check run; round 2 (score 9) found the Worker accepted reports without a score, fixed by requiring both per AGENTS.md's no-backwards-compatibility rule; round 3 (score 10) found nothing.
  • Pullfrog's two threads on 497641a (the stale findings name in the SCHEMA doc comment, and /quest-review's summary reading as if quest status printed the score) are fixed in bdfdac8. Its review of 08585c7 found no new issues.
  • CodeRabbit's thread on src/cli/review.ts:79 (a rationale over 8,000 characters passes quest review but the Worker refused the runner's report): fixed at the Worker in 08585c7, which cuts overlong prose instead of refusing it. CodeRabbit confirmed and resolved it.
  • CodeRabbit's thread on cloudflare/src/jobs/review.ts:52 (reject a blank finding file or title, in the Worker and verdict()): refuted in its reply. quest review on main already accepted both blank (findings() checks only the string type), so the Worker accepting them records every round the CLI accepted; tightening verdict() would fail a round over a cosmetic field.

Follow-ups

  • None recommended.

The reviewer's schema turn now reports a required integer score from 0 to
10 for how ready the head is to land, with a one-sentence rationale, on a
scale every prompt defines: 10 lands as is, 7 to 9 after the findings are
fixed, 4 to 6 needs rework, 0 to 3 is the wrong approach. A reply without
a valid score fails like any malformed reply. `quest review` prints a
`score` line beside `findings`, `--json` carries both fields, the runner's
note to the agent names the score, and the `## Review` record and
/quest-review's summary include it. The findings still decide the loop.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

Review responses now require a score from 0 to 10 and a rationale. The CLI validates and displays these values, and the runner includes them in review data and notes. GitHub check output shows the score and rationale. Documentation and tests were updated to reflect the required fields and their handling.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "quest review: score each round out of 10" matches the main change. The PR adds a 0-10 score and a rationale to each quest review round across the CLI, runner, Worker, and docs. The title is short, specific, and does not describe anything absent from the changeset.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 8 functions across 7 files. (3 skipped: 3 unsupported.)

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is specific and relevant to the changeset. It states that every quest review round now reports a 0 to 10 score with a one-sentence rationale. It names the changed files and explains the CLI, runner, Worker, documentation, and deleted quest changes. It also gives validation results and review history. This matches the changes in the raw summary, including the SCHEMA and verdict() updates, the Worker truncation behavior, and the removed review-score links.

ℹ️ No critical issues — minor suggestions inline.

Reviewed changes

  • Score and rationale in every round's reply: SCHEMA requires an integer score (0 to 10) and a rationale; the renamed verdict() re-checks both by hand, and the scale (SCALE) now leads the prompt every round shares — so a reply without a valid score or with a blank rationale fails like any malformed reply.
  • Score surfaces: the plain output prints score <n> <rationale> before findings <n>, --json's Round carries both, and the runner's review note to the agent now reads "It scored <n>/10: <rationale>".
  • Docs and quest cleanup: README, --help text, assets/CONTEXT.md's ## Review record (score + rationale, never blocking), and /quest-review's summary wording updated; the finished quest file and its links are removed.

The score correctly never gates anything — runner pass/fail still turns on findings only — and session state's rounds shape is unchanged. I verified test/review.test.ts and test/runner.test.ts pass locally (122 tests green).

The runner sends the round's score and rationale with its report, and the
Worker puts the score in the quest review check's title and the rationale,
fenced, ahead of the findings. Reports from runners without scores still
record.

Nothing is in production, so the Worker no longer accepts unscored reports.

Reviewed changes

  • Score closed the loop to GitHub: src/runner/job.ts now sends score and rationale in ctx.reviewed, and cloudflare/src/jobs/review.ts requires both on every runner report — an integer 0–10 with a non-blank rationale up to 8,000 characters, refused otherwise per the no-backwards-compatibility rule.
  • The check run carries the score: the App's quest review check titles itself <findings>, scored N/10 and leads its text with the rationale, fenced like the findings so backtick runs in it can't escape; the conclusion still depends only on the findings, and the land gate reads nothing beyond that.
  • Prior feedback fixed in bdfdac8: the SCHEMA doc comment now names verdict, and /quest-review's summary wording no longer attributes the score to quest status. The merge of origin/main only touches quest doc links.
  • Tests cover the delta: refusal paths for score: 11, 7.5, missing, and blank rationale in cloudflare/test/publish.test.ts; score/rationale assertions through test/review.test.ts and test/runner.test.ts. Verified green locally (122 CLI, 89 worker).

The Worker refused a runner's review report whose rationale passed 8,000
characters, or whose finding file, title, or body passed its bound or was
blank, though `quest review` accepts all of them, leaving that head
unrecorded. That prose only fills the check run's text, so kix now cuts it
to fit.

Reviewed changes

This run covers the delta since the prior pullfrog review of 881696d: the merge of main and the prose-cutting fix. Both prior pullfrog threads remain resolved — their fixes landed in bdfdac8.

  • Overlong review prose is cut instead of refused (cloudflare/src/jobs/review.ts): clip() cuts rationale, finding file/title/body past their REVIEW_LIMITS bounds to a surrogate-safe string ending in …, so a round quest review accepted is always recorded — this fixes CodeRabbit's thread on the CLI/Worker bound mismatch at the Worker, the side that needs it. Blank finding file/title are now accepted too, which genuinely matches verdict() in src/cli/review.ts:647 (it checks only the string type).
  • The blank-rationale check stays exact: it trims the original body.rationale rather than the clipped copy, which is what still rejects a whitespace-only rationale that clipping alone would turn non-empty (e.g. " ".repeat(8100)).
  • checkOutput simplifies soundly: the score fence always starts the text, so text is never empty and the spread-conditional on returning it is gone.
  • The main merge resolves src/runner/job.ts consistently: the review note keeps the "It scored <n>/10" sentence and adopts main's design checkpoint every third round, matching assets/CONTEXT.md:153.
  • Tests cover the delta: a new worker test cuts an overlong rationale/file/title/body end to end and asserts the check-run text, and the refusal suite adds missing (undefined), malformed (11, 7.5), and blank (" ") score/rationale cases.

Verified locally: worker publish suite 90 passed (after regenerating cloudflare/build/board.json), and CLI test/review.test.ts + test/runner.test.ts 122 passed.

Reviewed changes

This run covers the delta since the prior pullfrog review of 08585c7: a single merge commit, 77c0806, that merges origin/main at ba352ea into the branch, bringing in #471 (quest review exits 3 on a reviewer's usage limit) and #490 (quest fixes link the PR that caused them). No incremental diff was produced because the PR's net changes are what the last review already covered — I verified that by reading the full raw diff, and I checked the places where the merged-in code touches reviewed code:

  • The score and usage-limit machinery coexist soundly in src/cli/review.ts: #471's ReviewLimitError is thrown from turn() before verdict() reads the reply, the renamed verdict()/SCHEMA/SCALE/roundLines score logic survived the merge intact, and reply(code, stderr) now carries the turn's exit status past #471's limit detection without touching the score path.
  • --help in src/cli/main.ts keeps both sides: the merged description names the score and its debut sentence plus #471's exit 3 and the reset line.
  • Both sides' tests coexist: #471's "usage limit exits 3" fake and the score's FAKE_REPLY/verdict() expectations are in test/review.test.ts together, and quest/m1/usage.md's link cleanup doesn't collide with #490's link rewrite.
  • Verified locally on the merged head: test/review.test.ts + test/runner.test.ts 123 passed, cloudflare/test/publish.test.ts 90 passed (after regenerating build/board.json), and root tsc is clean.

Both prior pullfrog threads remain resolved. For the next merge, note that main has since moved past this one (#492, which drops the agent's API keys, and #493, which picks the reviewer and effort by PR size — both touch src/cli/review.ts), so will need the same interaction check.

Reviewed changes

This run covers the delta since the prior pullfrog review of 77c0806: a single merge commit, 9770aa5, that merges origin/main at 5397c57 into the branch, bringing in #492 (which drops the agent's API keys) and #493 (which picks the reviewer and effort by PR size). The last run flagged this merge for the same interaction check that the 77c0806 merge needed; I verified it.

  • Score and size-picking coexist in src/cli/review.ts: Round gains size/sizeFrom beside score/rationale; #493's pickReviewer/reviewSize slot in ahead of the unchanged SCHEMA, SCALE, verdict(), and roundLines(), which keep this PR's score and rationale wording verbatim.
  • --help merges both sides cleanly: the merged description names the size and where it came from, then this PR's score sentence, its rationale, and the malformed-reply rule.
  • assets/CONTEXT.md keeps both edits: main's ## Models paragraph and the branch's ## Review record sentence (which carries "the round's score out of 10 with its rationale") sit side by side under ## Reviews.
  • The merge removes #493's superseded quest link, not this PR's: quest/m0/model-routing/README.md and quest/m2/council.md drop review-effort.md while keeping review-score.md until this PR merges; quest check confirms no dangling links anywhere.
  • The runner note survives untouched: src/runner/job.ts's merged review note keeps the It scored <n>/10 sentence and main's design-checkpoint phrasing.

Verified locally on the merged head: test/review.test.ts + test/runner.test.ts 126 passed, cloudflare/test/publish.test.ts 90 passed (after regenerating cloudflare/build/board.json), root tsc clean, and quest check --base origin/main passes (75 documents ok).

Both prior pullfrog threads remain resolved.
