Plans quest/m0/replay-av-sync.md [S], from #93: replay sources still write their sound when due, so it trails their pictures by the 50 ms bus latency. The same fix as media sources, minus the loop. Picked under /afk with the recommended option.

#93's other follow-up, the bus channel reporting what it holds, is planned in moq: moq-dev/moq#8175.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed head 2ffbf2abf0f565a036c1d2116b202619b60a9a32 against base 47c4b3d16f4e4b3ae266395e07a3eaf6c4c72862.

No actionable findings. The plan matches the current replay path: pictures show when due, while audio waits until the same due time before entering the delayed bus. Replays have a finite span rather than the media source's looping handoff. The referenced paused-clock test checks actual mixed audio onset against picture timing, and the new quest is linked from m0.

Direction: reuse the existing playout writer and early handover established by #93 rather than introduce a separate timing mechanism. The finer bus-position issue planned upstream is distinct from removing this 50 ms offset.

Verification: GitHub-only review of both changed documents, replay/media scheduling, the named test and relevant history. Repository guidance and pinned quest context were read as source; no quest context, builds, tests or runtime reproduction were executed.

Walkthrough

The README adds a requirement for replay sources to write to the bus one bus latency ahead. A new note describes replay audio as currently reaching the bus 50 ms late relative to pictures. It proposes using the media-file-source timing approach for replay and adding a synchronization test.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 2ffbf

The plan is mergeable with minor documentation corrections: limit audio synchronization to normal-speed replays and qualify the latency explanation. No runtime behavior changes in this PR.

Check replay timing beyond startup.

The referenced test checks only the first picture and sound. Add checks for corresponding events later in the replay and near its end. If the audio channel closes when early writes finish, buffered final sound can be dropped before the replay ends.

A replay source's sound plays in step with its own pictures in every output
(program, published scenes, recordings, and Listen), instead of a bus

Limit the goal to real-time replays.

At 50% speed, replay pictures play but sound remains silent. The timing change does not enable slowed audio. State that this goal applies at 100% speed and that slowed replays remain silent.

Qualify the replay latency explanation.

After a long audio gap, the channel can run dry and play the next write immediately. That frame is not necessarily 50 ms late. Qualify the timing explanation to distinguish a fed channel from a drained one.
