A genuinely pre-cruft project last matched commit 2419048 or earlier, but those commits contain neither cookiecutter.json nor the templated project directory; both first appear in 88ea222. Following this instruction therefore records a non-template SHA, and the next update fails because Cruft generates its old baseline by checking out and rendering the recorded commit. Document a renderable migration baseline or a separate conversion procedure rather than directing these repositories to their actual last-matching commit.
