What

  • The prompt footer badge next to the agent name now always renders in prompt mode: gray manual (theme.textMuted) in normal mode, red auto (theme.error) when permissions are auto-approved (--auto). Previously only a gray auto appeared, and nothing in normal mode.
  • The idle footer advertises the new binding with a shift+tab modes hint left of tab agents.
  • New permission_mode_cycle keybind, default shift+tab, mapped to the existing permission.mode palette command so the mode can be toggled without opening the palette.
  • agent_cycle_reverse ("Previous agent") default moves from shift+tab to none to free the key; tab still cycles agents forward and previous-agent stays rebindable via keybinds config.

Why

Make the permission mode always visible — with auto in red as a danger signal — and quick to toggle.

Verification

  • bun typecheck in packages/tui.
  • Drove the real TUI in tmux: normal start shows gray manual, --auto start shows red auto, and shift+tab (BTab) toggles the mode without cycling the agent; the palette lists the command with its shift+tab shortcut.
  • bun test in packages/tui: only the pre-existing flaky app-lifecycle.test.tsx epilogue test fails; it fails identically on a clean tree.

DIVERGENCES.md row and CHANGELOG.md Unreleased entry included.

The prompt footer badge next to the agent name now always renders in
prompt mode: gray "manual" in normal mode, red "auto" (theme.error) when
permissions are auto-approved (--auto). New permission_mode_cycle
keybind (default shift+tab) toggles the mode via the existing
permission.mode command; agent_cycle_reverse is now unbound by default
(tab still cycles agents forward).
