This repository contains the Jekyll source documents for building the QuTiP and family packages website at https://qutip.org.
To add a posting to the news website you add a new file to the _posts folder.
There are already other files you can take inspiration from or you can read the full documentation provided by Jekyll.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Make sure the file name is in
YYYY-MM-DD-filename.mdformat, wherefilenamecan be of your choosing but unique. - The
titleattribute at the top of the page will be the main header of the post and shows up on the overview page and homepage. - The first paragraph of your post will be shown on the overview page. It is advisable to put important links or a (very) short and catchy introduction there.
- Using the
readmoreattribute, you can decide if your post should get its own page (set toreadmore: True) or not (readmore: False). See the difference of this and this post. - Assets like images are managed in the
assets(notimages) folder.
When a new version of qutip is released, the website needs to be updated as well. This comes in three simple steps:
- Update the corresponding links and version numbers in
_data/release_info.yaml - In
documentation.md, move the (now) old entry to the Previous releases section and create a new one in the Latest releases one - Update
download.mdin the same way
Finally, check that the HTML and Markdown structure is correct and validate your results by testing it locally.
Complete instructions for testing changes locally can be found in the GitHub documentation.
The short version of the instructions is:
- Install Ruby and Bundler usings the appropriate tools for your platform.
- Run
bundle installwhich installs the dependencies listed in theGemfile. - Run
bundle exec jekyll servewhich will build the site and serve it locally.
Push changes to master triggers the default GitHub pages build action which runs Jekyll and deployes the updated website.
