Publish the archive notice on the package homepage
When users enter through the npm package, package.json directs them to the GitHub Pages site rather than this README; site/index.html:88-103 and site/index.html:204-210 still present GitPin as active and invite them to install the gate. Because this commit declares the project retired while leaving that public entry point unchanged, those users receive no retirement or Assay guidance; add an equivalent notice to the site or redirect the homepage.

Record the retirement in the current-state authority
Declaring GitPin archived changes its operational state, but docs/current-state.md remains unchanged even though its opening contract says to update it whenever operational truth changes. Readers using the durable documentation therefore cannot determine from the designated status document that the project is retired or superseded; update that document alongside this notice.

Make the archive claim cite its rationale
The claim says the notice includes “one line on why,” but this locator ends at README line 2 while the rationale is on line 3. The gate therefore reports this claim as evidence-verified even though its cited slice does not contain the asserted explanation; extend the range through line 3 and recompute the hash, or remove that clause from the statement.

| > Why: the same agent writes both the change and its evidence manifest, so the gate proves coverage and hash pinning, not that a claim is true. Assay moves the decision into deterministic code instead. | ||

Reconcile the npm availability statements
This sentence now asserts that 0.6.4 remains available on npm, while the same README’s Status section still says the tree describes 0.6.4 “without asserting publication status” and instructs readers to check each channel independently. Since README is the publishing entry point, these mutually incompatible instructions make the archive status ambiguous; update the Status section or avoid asserting registry availability here.

Adds an archive notice at the top of the README. GitPin is retired as a standalone product, superseded by Assay, a reference architecture for deterministic agent control.
The notice gives one line on why: the same agent writes the change and its evidence manifest, so the gate proves coverage and hash pinning, not that a claim is true. 0.6.4 stays on npm. The repository will be archived after this merges.
.gitpin/change-evidence.jsonhas one claim on README line 2. A localgitpin gate --base origin/main --head HEADreturnedevidence-verified.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
