ScrollView with keyboardShouldPersistTaps="handled" keeps the keyboard open only for taps that RNGH reports as handled. Only NativeDetector reported them, so a tap on a VirtualGestureDetector (or on an InterceptingGestureDetector's own gesture) fired the gesture but still dismissed the keyboard.
This PR runs useJSResponderHandler in both detectors. VirtualDetector has no host view, so Wrap sets onStartShouldSetResponder on the cloned child and defers to the child's own handler if it has one. InterceptingGestureDetector sets it on its host view.
useJSResponderHandler gets an allowNative parameter that decides whether a Native gesture counts as handling the tap. It defaults to true, so NativeDetector and VirtualDetector behave as before and buttons keep marking. InterceptingGestureDetector passes false: ScrollView and FlatList are intercepting detectors with a Native gesture, and marking there would report every touch on the scroller as handled, so the keyboard could never be dismissed by tapping the list. The only case this affects is an InterceptingGestureDetector with a Native gesture, which did not mark before either.
Update (bea2e05): the first version set onStartShouldSetResponder on the cloned child in Wrap. RN Text uses a passed onStartShouldSetResponder in place of its own press handling, so a Text with onPress inside a VirtualGestureDetector stopped firing onPress. It also made every Text child count as pressable, which gives it the default link accessibility role. Wrap now marks the event in onStartShouldSetResponderCapture instead and calls the child's own capture handler if it has one. The scroll view provider is an ancestor of the child, so its capture handler still clears the flag first, and the provider still sees the flag in the bubble phase when nothing below takes the touch. Checked on iOS and Android: TextonPress fires again, and taps on virtual detectors still keep the keyboard open in keyboardShouldPersistTaps="handled".
Test plan
Tested on the following code:
importReact,{useEffect,useState}from'react';import{Keyboard,StyleSheet,Text,TextInput,View}from'react-native';import{GestureDetector,ScrollView,useTapGesture,VirtualGestureDetector,}from'react-native-gesture-handler';// Android + iOS. GH `ScrollView` with `keyboardShouldPersistTaps="handled"`// keeps the keyboard open for taps that RNGH handles: `NativeDetector` marks// the responder event via `useJSResponderHandler`, and the interceptor above// the ScrollView consumes marked events. `VirtualGestureDetector` (and// `InterceptingGestureDetector`) never mark, so a tap handled by a virtual// detector is treated as unhandled and blurs the focused input.//// Steps: focus the input so the keyboard opens, then tap the green row// (native detector): tap count goes up, keyboard stays. Focus again, tap the// orange row (virtual detector): tap count goes up, but the keyboard closes.// Expected: both rows keep the keyboard open.exportdefaultfunctionEmptyExample(){const[nativeTaps,setNativeTaps]=useState(0);const[virtualTaps,setVirtualTaps]=useState(0);const[keyboardOpen,setKeyboardOpen]=useState(false);const[text,setText]=useState('');useEffect(()=>{constshow=Keyboard.addListener('keyboardDidShow',()=>setKeyboardOpen(true));consthide=Keyboard.addListener('keyboardDidHide',()=>setKeyboardOpen(false));return()=>{show.remove();hide.remove();};},[]);constnativeTap=useTapGesture({runOnJS: true,onActivate: ()=>setNativeTaps((n)=>n+1),});constvirtualTap=useTapGesture({runOnJS: true,onActivate: ()=>setVirtualTaps((n)=>n+1),});return(<Viewstyle={styles.container}><Textstyle={styles.status}testID="status">

Improved responder handling for tap gestures used with virtual and intercepting gesture detectors inside scroll views.
Scroll views can claim responder events for eligible taps, while virtual pan gestures and intercepting native gestures retain their expected behavior.
Detectors without a gesture configuration no longer participate in responder handling.
Disabled gestures are excluded from responder handling, preventing them from incorrectly affecting scroll-view interactions.
The change connects V3 virtual and intercepting detectors to JS responder handling. It adds Native gesture filtering, composes responder callbacks with child handlers, and tests tap, pan, and Native gesture behavior inside ScrollViews.
useJSResponderHandler accepts an optional gesture and an allowNative option. It evaluates gesture enablement and Native gesture support during responder handling.
Virtual gestures on some custom children may still dismiss the keyboard. This is a bounded compatibility gap to address or explicitly accept before merging.

The behavior change is well-scoped, matches the PR’s stated intent (including the intercepting-native exclusion), and is covered by new targeted v3 tests.
Pull request overview
This PR fixes ScrollView keyboardShouldPersistTaps="handled" interoperability by ensuring RNGH “handled tap” marking happens not only for NativeDetector, but also for VirtualGestureDetector and InterceptingGestureDetector (with a guard to avoid marking native gestures for intercepting scrollers like ScrollView/FlatList).
Changes:
Extend useJSResponderHandler with an allowNative flag and allow an undefined gesture input.
Plumb JS responder marking into VirtualDetector (via Wrap cloning the child and deferring to any existing child responder handler).
Plumb JS responder marking into InterceptingGestureDetector host view, while disabling “Native gesture counts as handled” there.
Add v3 API tests covering Virtual/Intercepting detectors’ responder marking behavior in keyboardShouldPersistTaps="handled" mode.
