With recent unraid updates, docker update checks for lscr.io images showed up as "not available". This seems due to lscr.io redirecting to ghcr.io and this caused part of the authorization to be stripped. This will use the final URL for the authentication request so the token reaches the endpoint that issued the request. Tested on Unraid 7.4.0-rc.1.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Docker image version checks now use the registry’s redirected destination for authentication and digest requests.
    • Improved error handling for manifest requests.

Walkthrough

getRemoteVersionV2 now uses the effective URL after the manifest HEAD request and checks the manifest request’s cURL handle for errors.

After the HEAD request, subsequent requests use cURL’s effective URL. The manifest request error check now inspects $digest_ch.

A redirected manifest can cause an update check to send registry credentials to an untrusted host. Validate the redirect destination before sending authentication.

I’m a rabbit with a curl of delight,
The manifest follows redirects right.
The next request finds its new address,
And errors get checked in the proper place.
I hop through the logs beneath the moon,
Then nibble a carrot and finish soon.

Validate the manifest redirect before sending credentials.

When the manifest HEAD follows a redirect to another host, CURLINFO_EFFECTIVE_URL can point to that host. The later $digest_ch request then sends either Authorization: Bearer ... or the registry credentials through CURLOPT_USERPWD to the redirected host. Apply a trusted redirect-host check before creating the credentialed request. Reject unapproved destinations without sending authentication.
