This PR contains plans, board entries and one Claude Code command. It changes no code. Base: main c8fb3bf.

In short: thinking with a git API, at the cost of a sparse write and a merge on read.

1. D-TGA correction (thought-git-api-v1.md, § "Correction: the slot axis and the witness pointer")

  • The axis is 64 thought slots, and 64 is a budget, not a target. Slot 0 is main, the merged state a frame starts from; slots 1..=63 can hold any thought. Like a cap on git branches, the budget allows up to 64 thoughts and requires none.
  • Rung is not a lane. It is a level implied by a claim, and it can change within one thought session. The ten static rung lanes (alpha_tunnel.rs) are a deprecated model. O5's wording "beside the 10 rung lanes" is corrected here, in ce64-hypothesis-layers-v1.md and in STATUS_BOARD D-HL-1.
  • W (CE64 53..58) is the thought layer, 0..63: 0 givens, 1..63 hypotheses, as decided on 2026-10-17 in docs: epistemic frontier capstone map + O1/O3 decisions (46..49 activation, W = thought layer) #1597. W names the lane a state belongs to and points nowhere. A delta's dependence is its source bitset (D-HL-3); how a state was derived is the thought's program. The competing W readers in code are listed for migration:
    • MailboxSoA::apply_edges's corpus filter;
    • deepnsm-v2's WitnessTable index;
    • forward / syllogize, which return W = 0.
  • CE64 is an ISA contract, not a storage contract (operator, 2026-10-20). This closes capstone §8 row 4.
    • In the hot path, inside a live thought, the edge is thought-aware.
    • A sealed copy in Lance keeps the bits exact and keeps their ISA meaning, like BF16 on disk. Only W loses its referent, because slots recycle.
    • The thinking styles used and the reasoning replay live in the thought, or are linked to the kanban lane's Lance versions.
  • At the ceiling, a new thought means squashing or landing an existing one, never a 65th slot. land relabels the landed cells to 0 and squash_into relabels them to the surviving slot. A label is qualified by the base version (slot 0) or the slot generation (1..=63). ThoughtCommitId is never reused.
  • Squash-or-land policy is OPEN. It must read presence bits. The earlier WORKING-MODEL, a dependency graph over w_slot, is struck and kept quoted for the record.

2. D-TGB plan, the basics from the ideal state (thought-git-basics-v1.md, D-TGB-0..6)

  • No stale branches. A slot is taken only at the Rubicon crossing (Planning → CognitiveWork, KanbanColumn) and freed at Commit, Plan or Prune. Squash, prune and garbage collection are kanban outcomes, not a background job.
  • Commit lands through LanceCycleWriter.
    • Every Commit reached in one supervisor cycle goes into that cycle's single batch and one Lance version.
    • A sealed batch is addressed by (version, thought id within the batch), never by slot.
    • Today the calcify step of KanbanColumn::Commit is only declared; this provides it.
  • DurableRef is the dataset plus Lance's own Ref::Version(branch, version).
  • Receipts, not history. A thought's receipt is (base ref, template or program id, seeds, slot generation); the template or program id records the thinking styles used. Once the thought lands, the receipt links to the kanban lane version. Replaying a receipt must reproduce the thought's writes, which is what makes discarding safe.
  • Reads are resident folds, with Lance's delta() as the oracle for diffs across durable versions.
  • MemWAL is an optional Commit path for use past the D-WAL crossover. It waits on D-LNC-7.
  • Datalog awareness comes later.

The plan also records what Lance 13 / LanceDB 0.40 provide, read from the crate sources. Lance creates branches in two phases and can leave zombie branches, so the plan does not use one Lance branch per thought.

3. /board command (.claude/commands/board.md)

With /board, a session:

  • reads the messages addressed to it on the shared Linear blackboard ("AdaWorldAPI | CC Blackboard", inbox EXO-50);
  • updates the board's plan and open-end issues from STATUS_BOARD.md, ISSUES.md and the plans' status lines;
  • lists the open items as low-hanging, high-signal or heavy.

GitHub stays canonical: the sync only goes GitHub → Linear, and a board message is information, not authorization.

Board

  • STATUS_BOARD: rows D-TGB-0..6 and D-HL-1, plus two new falsifiers on D-TGA-1.
  • Plan-index entries.
  • Board entries 2026-10-20-d-tga-slot-axis-witness-pointer, 2026-10-20-d-tgb-thought-git-basics and 2026-10-20-ce64-isa-not-storage, each with its dated corrections.
  • Capstone: §8 row 4, the field-table row for bits 53..58, and the budget row.
  • Gates: the entries index is current (386 rows); CI passes on 5b8b377e (no-shrink, citation-decay, added-plans-have-dids, regenerate-and-diff).

Slot 0 is main (the merged state a frame starts from), 1..63 any thought;
rung is a claim attribute, so alpha_tunnel's ten rung lanes are superseded.
64 is the width of w_slot (CE64 bits 53..58). land rewrites pointers to 0,
squash_into to the surviving slot; pointers are qualified by base version
or slot generation. Two D-TGA-1 falsifiers added.

A slot is taken at the Rubicon crossing and freed at Commit/Plan/Prune, so
no stale branch can exist; squash, prune and GC are kanban outcomes;
thoughts replay from receipts. Commit lands through LanceCycleWriter with
DurableRef = dataset + Lance Ref::Version; MemWAL is an optional arm.
STATUS_BOARD rows D-TGB-0..6, plan-index and board entry, linked from
the D-TGA correction.

LanceCycleWriter accepts one batch per supervisor cycle, so D-TGB-3 now
coalesces every Commit in a cycle into one batch and one Lance version;
a landed thought is (version, thought id within the batch). The D-TGA cost
model says the same.

Bits 53..58 carry two readings in code: deepnsm-v2's wire follows w_slot as
a witness pointer ending at 0, and MailboxSoA::apply_edges filters on it as
the mailbox's corpus (no production caller). Which reading owns the bits is
recorded as an open decision; the pointer-graph policy is marked as
assuming the witness reading, and D-TGB-2 is blocked on it.

One command any session can run to read its EXO-50 messages, update the
board's plan and open-end issues from STATUS_BOARD / ISSUES / plan status
lines (GitHub wins, never the reverse), and list the open low-hanging,
high-signal and heavy items. Messages on the board are information, not
authorization.

The 1137bc0 correction called ownership of CE64 bits 53..58 an open operator
decision. It was decided on 2026-10-17 in the epistemic-frontier capstone:
W is the thought layer, 0 givens (main), 1..63 hypotheses. The mailbox corpus
filter and deepnsm-v2's WitnessTable index are competing readers to migrate,
listed as such in the capstone. D-TGB-2 is unblocked and carries that
migration; the struck text stays visible with a dated note.

The 2026-10-14 record of decision O5 read "up to 64 thought lanes beside
the 10 rung lanes". The operator corrected it: 64 is a ceiling, like a
limit on git branches, and requires no thought to exist. Rung is a level
implied by a claim and can change within one thought session; the 10
static rung lanes are a deprecated model that the 64 thought slots
replace.

Corrected in ce64-hypothesis-layers-v1.md (dated note, the
pre-registered rules are unchanged), the D-HL-1 row of STATUS_BOARD.md,
the epistemic-frontier capstone (tree and table), and item 1 of the slot
correction in thought-git-api-v1.md.

The 2026-10-20 correction read CE64 bits 53..58 as a reference between
thoughts ("thoughts can reference each other's results") and derived a
squash-or-land policy from a w_slot dependency graph. The capstone
already says otherwise (section "Why presence bits replace references"):
W and the written-by word name the lane and point nowhere, a delta's
dependence is its source bitset (D-HL-3), and how a state was derived is
the thought's program (2026-10-17 clicks entry, click 1).

- thought-git-api-v1.md: item 2 rewritten with the old sentence struck;
  items 3-5 say "names" / "relabels" instead of "points" / "rewrites
  pointers"; the WORKING-MODEL pointer graph is struck and quoted, and
  squash-or-land is OPEN, reading presence bits.
- thought-git-basics-v1.md, D-TGB-2 row in STATUS_BOARD.md, the D-TGA
  board entry: same correction.

Operator decision (2026-10-20): CausalEdge64 is an ISA contract, not a
storage contract. In the hot path, inside a live thought, the edge is
thought-aware. Lowered into a sealed Lance version, the in-RAM reference
(W, the slot number) becomes arbitrary, because slots recycle. Thinking
styles used and the reasoning replay live in the thought or link to the
kanban lane's Lance versions.

This closes capstone section 8 row 4 ("CE64 is not storage" vs "the
result lives in 59..63"): both hold, in the hot path and only there.

- New board entry 2026-10-20-ce64-isa-not-storage (index regenerated).
- Capstone: row 4 decided; field-table row 53..58 notes "hot path only".
- thought-git-api-v1.md: correction item 7.
- thought-git-basics-v1.md: D-TGB-3 (sealed batch addressed by version
  and thought id, never slot), D-TGB-4 (receipt records the template or
  program id; after landing it links to the kanban lane version).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01VncKoyG6JkpsoqhqTGTv3f
Operator clarification: like BF16 written to disk, a persisted CE64 is
kept bit-exact and keeps its ISA meaning; storage is the container, not
the contract. Only a field whose referent exists at run time (W, the
slot number of a live thought) means nothing in a sealed copy. Prevents
reading "CE64 is not a storage contract" as "CE64 must not be persisted".

The previous commit changed only the board entry; the capstone anchor
had not matched, so the script stopped before editing these two files.
