Problem

C++ developers had only the hand-written moq-c ABI, and the OBS plugin was its main consumer. This lands the C++ questline on main now that questline branches are retiring (kixelated/quest#44). The line's finished work is here; the children still open move out to flat quests.

Approach

  • cpp/moq: the moq C++ package. The bindings are generated from moq-ffi by a pinned fork of LiveKit's uniffi-bindgen-cpp (v0.11.0-kixelated.4+v0.32.2). On top sits a thin hand-written <moq/moq.hpp> layer: moq:: short names, moq::expected, moq::Future with get/wait_for/cancel/then, an executor hook, moq::shutdown, and co_await under C++20. Errors never throw, so -fno-exceptions builds work. C++17 is the floor.
  • Distribution: a CMake package (moq::cpp) and a pkg-config file (moq-cpp). release-cpp.yml publishes one archive per target on a cpp-v* tag; Windows gets a .zip. cpp/moq/VERSION and cpp/obs/VERSION are human-owned.
  • OBS plugin (cpp/obs): moves from moq-c onto cpp/moq. Continuations run on a per-object worker, and the real-relay unit tests drive the actual moq-ffi. MoQOutput::Reset() finishes the tracks and closes the broadcast before draining, and keeps each drain future alive until the destructor; a stop drains the session test pins it. The plugin's macOS and Windows release jobs move from moq-c.yml to release-cpp.yml.
  • Interop and docs: a C++ interop client joins just test interop, and doc/lib/cpp documents the package.

This round:

  • Merged origin/main again. Conflicts were in quests and docs only. doc/bin/obs.md and doc/lib/c/index.md take main's rewrite, corrected for what this PR changes (no negotiated draft in the dock stats, the Advanced settings that remain, moq-c no longer hosting OBS).
  • Generator pin kixelated.2 to kixelated.4 in flake.nix (with new hashes), rs/moq-ffi/build.sh, cpp/moq/README.md, cpp.yml, obs.yml, and release-cpp.yml. Generated files now end with a newline, which fixes OBS (macOS)'s -Werror,-Wnewline-eof, and uniffi::Future is [[nodiscard]]. quest/m1/cpp-generated-newline.md is done and deleted.
  • Rebase notes applied: quest/m3/cpp-vcpkg.md and quest/m3/cpp-conan.md require /quest/m1/cpp-release.md and drop their "once that file is on main" notes (quest/m3/unreal.md already did). quest/m1/c/README.md, quest/m1/c/package.md, and quest/m1/obs-moq-video/source.md drop their Required link to the deleted line README, since this PR lands that work.
  • C++ interop client sets max_delay_us, which main renamed from max_age_us; it had stopped building. Interop's remaining go -> js, python -> js, and now cpp -> js failures are the moq-ffi publisher stall that also fails main; quest/m0/ffi-publisher-stall.md now names the C++ publisher too.
  • just check scope: obs_compile also runs on rs/moq-c/native-libs/, which the in-tree cpp/moq link line reads (CodeRabbit).
  • Dock tooltip: the Advanced button no longer advertises a protocol pin, which the migration removed (CodeRabbit). obs-client-config.md restores it with the field.

API review (maintainer asked "do you like this API?"):

  • Doc samples check every result. doc/lib/cpp dereferenced unchecked results like (*announced)->, which is undefined on an error. The samples now unwrap with an ok() helper like the probe's, and cpp/moq/test/doc-samples.hpp defines the same helper. The Errors section warns that below C++23 with exceptions off, *result and value() on an error are undefined: the bundled tl::expected has nothing to throw and hits __builtin_unreachable.
  • New quest quest/m1/cpp-generated-shape.md, required by the first cpp-v* release. The generator fork strips the Moq prefix, so the about 95 hand-kept aliases and their check go away. It also always uses tl::expected, which removes the MOQ_ABI link guard and the "C++ standard" pitfall, and its value() aborts instead of being undefined.
  • FFI shape note: MoqError variants get named fields, so no binding shows a positional v1.
  • New m0 quest quest/m0/ffi-cancel-read.md. The probe's cancel-then-read checks fail locally in about 1 of 30 runs at C++17 and 2 of 20 at C++23. A cancelled read's spawned task keeps the consumer's lock until the binding frees the future, so it takes the next frame. This is a moq-ffi bug in every binding. The probe stays as its regression test, so cpp.yml can flake until that quest lands.

Decisions

Items 1-7 were recorded while the agent ran unattended, each the recommended option. Items 8-12 are from the API review, answered by the maintainer.

  1. Open children: flatten all of them, or keep the regression fixes in this PR?
    • Implement client-config [L] and session-report [M] here. That adds new moq-ffi API in every binding to an already large PR, and it collides with the FFI shape work in refactor(ffi)!: the bindings mirror Rust's layers #4519.
    • ✅ Flatten them, and make them Required by the first cpp-v* release (confirmed by the maintainer 2026-10-06). The OBS plugin now ships only from that human-cut tag, so no OBS user gets the regression, and this PR stays focused.
  2. FFI shape (refactor(ffi)!: the bindings mirror Rust's layers #4519) was ordered first in the 10-05 audit:
  3. Newline-EOF fix:
  4. Which fork tag:
    • kixelated.3: the newline and [[nodiscard]] fix only.
    • ✅ kixelated.4: .3 plus the C backend (--lang c) and an escaping fix for string-literal defaults. It is the newest release, it only adds to the C++ output, and the generated moq-c package (quest/m1/c/package.md) needs it, so the pin moves once.
  5. Hold the drain futures:
    • Keep a single std::optional drain. A second Reset within a second would cancel the first drain.
    • ✅ Keep a small vector that drops finished drains, and have the destructor wait on whatever is left.
  6. Make uniffi::Future [[nodiscard]] in the fork: ✅ yes. It is the source-level guard against the discarded-drain bug.
  7. CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE with Visual Studio:
    • Key the cargo profile off the generator's build config.
    • ✅ Keep the behavior and correct the comment. The Debug cargo profile is what the CI cache holds, and the staticlib links the release CRT under any MSVC config.
  8. moq::expected is std::expected on C++23 and tl::expected below, which needs the MOQ_ABI guard:
    • ✅ Follow-up before release: a fork option always uses tl::expected, and the guard and pitfall docs are deleted.
    • Do it in this PR (a fork release and another bump of all six pin sites).
    • Keep the split.
  9. Two names per type (moq::MoqClient and moq::Client):
    • ✅ Strip the prefix in the generator, in the same fork release as 8, and delete the alias list.
    • Generate into moq::ffi and keep the aliases.
    • Keep as is, like Kotlin and Dart.
  10. Error matching (std::holds_alternative<moq::Error::kX>(e.get_variant()), v1 payloads):
  • ✅ Note on the FFI shape quest: name MoqError's fields in moq-ffi.
  • Add a C++-only helper in moq.hpp.
  • Leave it.
  1. Doc samples dereference unchecked results:
  • ✅ Check every result with an ok() helper.
  • Leave as is.
  1. The probe flakes on the moq-ffi cancelled-read race:
  • ✅ m0 quest for the moq-ffi fix, and land as is with the probe as its regression test.
  • Same quest, and skip the probe's cancel cases until it lands.
  • Fix moq-ffi in this PR.

Impact

  • New public C++ API: <moq/moq.hpp> (moq:: names generated from moq-ffi), CMake find_package(moq-cpp) / moq::cpp, and pkg-config moq-cpp. No Rust, wire, or other-binding API change.
  • New release stream: cpp-v* publishes moq-cpp-<version>-<target> archives plus a parallel obs-moq-v<version> (0.7.0). moq-c-v* no longer builds the OBS plugin, so obs-moq stays at 0.6.11 until the first C++ release.
  • OBS: the Advanced settings for protocol version, timeouts, SNI, GSO, MTU, congestion control, and qlog are not applied yet, and the dock shows no negotiated protocol and only a bare "Reconnecting". Both are fixed before the first C++ release by its Required quests.
  • Generator pin: uniffi-bindgen-cpp v0.11.0-kixelated.4+v0.32.2.

Alternatives

  • Keep the C++ line on its own branch until every child lands. Dropped because questline branches are retiring.
  • Hand-write the C++ surface. The line decided to generate it, so every moq-ffi change reaches C++ for free.

Follow-ups

Children moved out of quest/m1/cpp/ (the questline README is deleted):

docs(cpp): point callers at valid() before reading a cancelled future
The OBS plugin template sets CMAKE_INCLUDE_CURRENT_DIR for every
directory, so cpp/obs and the add_subdirectory'd cpp/moq land on the
include path. On case-insensitive filesystems (macOS, Windows) their
VERSION files then answer the standard library's #include <version>,

a same-directory quoted one, so turn the flag off after the bootstrap.

Reviewed commit: 0db3e75; follow-up to 6441129, separating inherited main changes from the OBS/quest delta.

The earlier shutdown finding is addressed in source: cpp/obs/src/moq-output.cpp:358–405 retains the retired session, finishes media before shutdown, and stores each drain future; :84–92 waits outside the teardown locks. cpp/obs/src/moq-source.cpp:744–748 now explicitly cancels subscriber teardown. The stop-and-destroy regression at cpp/obs/test/moq-output-test.cpp:361–424 exercises an in-flight 16 MiB final frame and clean end. No new actionable correctness finding in this lifecycle change.

Direction: the thin generated C++ layer remains sound. The explicit revised scope is coherent: first-release prerequisites retain settings/report parity, and quest/m1/cpp-release.md:23–31 now requires a nightly local-archive dry run before publication. This is a plan, not implemented release-path validation.

Existing generator blocker remains independently confirmed: exact-head OBS macOS fails on missing final newlines in the three generated files (https://github.com/moq-dev/moq/actions/runs/37514877000/job/112445116117). Follow quest/m1/cpp-generated-newline.md to update the pins once the maintainer's generator release is available; no duplicate inline finding added. C++ and Check passed; Interop failed. GitHub reports merge conflicts.

Verification: static lifecycle, FFI shutdown contract, regression and scope review plus exact-head CI inspection. No local build or OBS runtime test; I did not independently reproduce the stated local test passes. The FFI contract still explicitly excludes draining IETF media streams.

Rebase notes from the 2026-10-08 quest audit (#5058, #5063):

  • cpp-vcpkg moved to quest/m3/cpp-vcpkg.md; apply the Required change there and drop its "Once that file is on main" note.
  • This PR deletes quest/m1/cpp/README.md, which quest/m3/cpp-vcpkg.md, quest/m3/unreal.md and (after quest: reconcile the concurrent 2026-10-08 audits and merges #5063) quest/m3/cpp-conan.md Require. Repoint all three to /quest/m1/cpp-release.md.

Grok review of e7388e23 (full review; no earlier Grok review on this PR)

This brings in the generated C++ package over moq-ffi plus a thin hand-written <moq/moq.hpp>, and moves OBS from moq-c onto it. The structure looks right. The OBS drain fix (keeping the shutdown futures alive) and the [[nodiscard]] generator change go after the right bug. I only got through the hand-written core (moq.hpp, moq-worker.h), so the findings below are limited to those files.

Non-blocking (one might be a real leak, so please check it)

  1. cpp/moq/include/moq/moq.hpp, detail::Awaiter: likely leak on every suspended co_await. State owns continuation, and the continuation's callback captures state as a shared_ptr. That's a reference cycle. The normal destructor path breaks it by moving continuation out. The early-return path (resuming && resume_on == this_thread) doesn't, and that's the common path: a suspended coroutine resumes inside resume.resume() on the completing thread, then destroys the awaiter while it moves past the co_await. Unless uniffi::FutureContinuation drops its callback after it fires, each suspended await leaks one State plus its continuation. Suggested fix: in the continuation, take state->continuation out (into a local, released after the lock) before calling resume(). Or clear it in the early-return branch. It's also worth adding a probe test that counts live States over N awaits.
  2. Same awaiter, re-entrancy is subtle. The recursive mutex plus the resume_on check depends on the destructor running on the same thread inside resume(). If the resumed coroutine hands itself to another executor and gets destroyed there while resuming is still true, that thread blocks on the mutex until resume() unwinds. That's fine, but then it takes the normal path and moves out continuation while the callback is still on the stack. Please confirm FutureContinuation's destructor tolerates being called after (or during) its own callback.
  3. cpp/obs/src/moq-worker.h, Stop() from the worker thread detaches. After that, ~MoQWorker returns while the running task (the caller) may still touch the owning output or source. The comment says this is intended. Still, any member access in that continuation after Stop() is a use-after-free if the owner gets destroyed on another thread at the same moment. Worth a comment at the call sites saying "Stop() must be the last thing a continuation does to this".
  4. CI was still pending at review time across the C++ (clang/MSVC), OBS (macOS/Windows), and Interop jobs. The PR body also says the generator fix (End generated files with a newline; mark Future nodiscard kixelated/uniffi-bindgen-cpp#2) is still waiting on review, and the pin depends on that release.

Verdict: ITERATE. Please verify or fix the awaiter cycle in (1). Everything else is minor.

Reviewed commit: e7388e2
Follow-up to 0db3e75, separating the main merge from the PR-specific delta.

New: one C++ interop compile regression at test/interop/clients/cpp/main.cpp:187, detailed inline.

Prior findings: the OBS shutdown fix and regression test remain unchanged. All generator pin sites now agree on v0.11.0-kixelated.4+v0.32.2, addressing the pin-update blocker in source; successful generated-output/macOS validation is still pending. The quest dependencies and Advanced tooltip are corrected.

Direction: retain the thin generated C++ package and port the client to the renamed FFI field rather than adding a compatibility member. Settings/report parity and the release-archive dry run remain explicit first-release work.

Verification: GitHub-only static delta and merge-integration review, including FFI records/methods, aliases, OBS and C++ test consumers. No build or runtime tests run. Exact-head C++ is in progress; OBS, Interop and Check are queued. This is not approval.

[P2] Port this assignment to the merged FFI subscription field

The main merge renamed MoqSubscription.max_age_us to max_delay_us (rs/moq-ffi/src/consumer.rs:57), but this client still assigns the removed member. moq::Subscription is an alias of the generated record, so regenerating the bindings makes the C++ interop client fail to compile. prepare_cpp builds this source for just test interop --all, leaving every C++ publish/subscribe case broken. Use max_delay_us here and verify the installed-package client build/full interop matrix against the regenerated bindings.

main renamed MoqSubscription's max_age_us to max_delay_us, so the C++ interop client stopped building.

Automated review: moq#4079 at 0fed1c58

First Grok review. This moves the OBS plugin off hand-written moq-c and onto a generated C++ package over moq-ffi, with CMake and pkg-config packaging, a cpp-v* release workflow, interop and docs. It deletes a lot of plugin code, which is a clear net win. I focused on the hand-written layer (moq.hpp, moq-worker.h) and the output teardown, not the generated bindings.

Blocking

None found.

Non-blocking

  1. Possible State leak in detail::Awaiter (cpp/moq/include/moq/moq.hpp, ~Awaiter). In the normal async path the awaiter is destroyed inside resume.resume() on the completing thread, so the destructor takes the early return and never moves state_->continuation out. State owns the Continuation, and the continuation's callback captures state by shared_ptr, so there's a reference cycle unless uniffi::FutureContinuation drops its callback after it fires. Worth checking in the generator fork. If it doesn't drop it, every co_await that suspends leaks one State plus continuation. A simple fix is to std::exchange the continuation out in the continuation lambda (or in the early-return branch) and release it after the lock is dropped. A loop of a few thousand co_awaits under ASan/LSan in probe.cpp would pin this.
  2. MoQWorker::Stop() from its own thread detaches (cpp/obs/src/moq-worker.h). That's fine for the queue, since State is shared. But if the owner is destroyed straight after, which is the reason Stop gets called from a continuation, the still-running task can touch the freed output or source. The comment says this is handled, but nothing enforces it. A debug assert, or a note on the callers saying they must not touch this after triggering teardown from a continuation, would help.
  3. MoQOutput destructor blocks on every drain (moq-output.cpp, drains[i].wait()). The drains are bounded at about 1s each in moq-ffi, but they run serially, so N retired sessions from reconnects can stall OBS teardown for about N seconds on whatever thread destroys the output. Consider waiting on all of them against one shared deadline.
  4. Toolchain pin is copied into six places (flake.nix, rs/moq-ffi/build.sh, cpp/moq/README.md, cpp.yml, obs.yml, release-cpp.yml). It's easy for these to drift on the next bump. A single source, or a just cpp check assertion that they match, would catch it.
  5. CI is pending on every job, including OBS (macOS), which is the one the kixelated.4 newline fix targets. Confirm it's green before merging.

Verdict: MERGE once CI is green. Item 1 is worth a quick check first.

Reviewed commit: 0fed1c5

No new actionable bugs found in the one-commit delta since the previous review.

Fixed: the interop compile finding. test/interop/clients/cpp/main.cpp:187 now assigns max_delay_us, matching MoqSubscription at rs/moq-ffi/src/consumer.rs:57. The unchanged 1,000,000-microsecond value still becomes a one-second delay via consumer.rs:88. The C++ alias and installed-package test path agree with this change.

Prior findings: the OBS shutdown fix is unchanged. The generator newline fix now has successful OBS macOS CI on the preceding reviewed commit; this delta changes no generator or OBS code.

Direction: this minimal field rename is the right fix; no compatibility layer is needed. Settings/report parity and the release-archive dry run remain first-release prerequisites.

Verification: GitHub-only static diff, FFI conversion and interop build-path inspection; current head, state and reviews rechecked before posting. No local build or runtime tests run. Exact-head Interop is running; C++, OBS and Check are queued, so a passing full matrix is not established. This is not approval.

Automated review of 178b3d30 (first Grok review on this PR)

Big but coherent: a generated C++ surface over moq-ffi with a thin hand-written layer, and the OBS plugin moved onto it with a per-object worker. I focused on cpp/moq/include/moq/moq.hpp, cpp/obs/src/moq-worker.h, and the teardown paths in moq-output.cpp and moq-source.cpp. I didn't find a blocking bug there. CI is still mostly pending (16 checks), so this verdict depends on CI going green.

Blocking

None found in the reviewed scope.

Non-blocking

  1. MoQOutput::~MoQOutput can block the OBS thread for several seconds (moq-output.cpp ~L86-92). It calls drain.wait() on each retired drain one after another, and each can take about a second. A user who restarts the output a few times and then closes OBS waits for all of them. Consider using one shared deadline with wait_for, so the total wait is bounded no matter how many drains are left.
  2. MoQWorker::Stop() only keeps its promise when it's called from another thread (moq-worker.h). When it's called on the worker thread itself, it detaches, so the "nothing touches this object once it returns" comments in ~MoQOutput and moq_source_destroy don't hold. Today neither destructor runs on the worker, but nothing enforces that. An assert(thread.get_id() != std::this_thread::get_id()) in the owner destructors (or a comment saying the call must come from off the worker) would turn that assumption into a check.
  3. detail::Awaiter::~Awaiter waits on the recursive mutex while another thread is inside resume() (moq.hpp). If a coroutine is destroyed from thread A while thread B is resuming it, and the coroutine body is itself waiting on A, the two threads deadlock. That's rare, but it's worth one line in the header saying a suspended coroutine has to be destroyed from its resuming thread or after it has settled.
  4. The OBS behavior regression is real and only enforced by quests. The Advanced settings (protocol pin, timeouts, SNI, GSO, MTU, congestion control, qlog) are now silently ignored, and the dock loses the negotiated protocol. The body says obs-client-config and obs-session-report are Required by the first cpp-v* tag. Please make sure release-cpp.yml can't be cut by accident before those land. A manual-approval environment on that workflow would be enough.
  5. Interop cpp -> js fails because of the existing moq-ffi publisher stall (quest/m0/ffi-publisher-stall.md). Fine to land with that, as long as the interop job stays non-required.

Verdict: MERGE, once CI is green.

Iterated to d646cb340: merged origin/main, bumped uniffi-bindgen-cpp to v0.11.0-kixelated.4+v0.32.2 (OBS (macOS) is green), applied the rebase notes, and fixed the review findings below. The PR description has the details and decisions.

Fixed

  • C++ interop client: max_age_us became max_delay_us on main (OpenAI review). It builds again, and every cpp -> and -> cpp cell passes except cpp -> js.
  • obs_compile scope misses rs/moq-c/native-libs/ (CodeRabbit): fixed.
  • "Protocol pin" in the Advanced tooltip (CodeRabbit, earlier round): removed. obs-client-config.md restores it with the field.

Interop: cpp -> js fails at 33 s, the same way go -> js and python -> js fail on main. It is the moq-ffi publisher stall, so quest/m0/ffi-publisher-stall.md now names the C++ publisher too.

Grok findings I'm not changing

  1. Awaiter State leak. There's no cycle once the future completes. FutureCompletionState::complete() moves callback_ out before it dispatches, and the dispatched task destroys the callback, and with it the shared_ptr<State>, after running it. FutureContinuation holds only the cancel function, which reaches the completion state but not the callback. So by the time the early-return branch runs (inside resume(), after completion), nothing points back at State. Before completion the cycle exists, and the normal destructor path breaks it.
  2. ~MoQOutput waits on drains one at a time. Every drain started at its own Reset() and runs concurrently in moq-ffi, so waiting in sequence costs about the slowest one (around a second), not the sum. A wait_for deadline would be a timeout over a bound moq-ffi already enforces.
  3. MoQWorker::Stop() from its own thread. The header already scopes the guarantee to "once Stop() returns from another thread", and neither owner destructor runs on its worker.
  4. Destroying a suspended coroutine from another thread while it resumes. Agreed that it's a sharp edge, but it's the same rule as for any coroutine: don't destroy one while it's running elsewhere. Documenting it belongs with the C++ docs follow-up rather than in this landing PR.
  5. Cutting cpp-v* before parity lands. The tag is pushed by hand, and quest/m1/cpp-release.md requires both parity quests. A manual-approval environment is the maintainer's call.

Found while checking locally (not fixed here): cpp/moq/test/probe.cpp:157 occasionally hangs. It's about 1 in 160 runs when 16 run in parallel, and it reproduces the same way on the pre-merge head 0db3e7501, so it isn't a regression. The read that follows a cancelled read never gets the hello frame. A likely cause: uniffi's rust_future_cancel doesn't drop the Rust future (only rust_future_free does), so the cancelled read's detached Task::run keeps the group lane and can take the next frame before AbortOnDrop fires. I'm proposing this as a follow-up quest.

…shape

The doc samples dereferenced unchecked moq::expected results, which is
undefined on an error. They now unwrap through an ok() helper, like the
probe, and the Errors section warns that value() is undefined with
exceptions off below C++23.

quest/m1/cpp-generated-shape.md, required by the first cpp-v* release,
gives each type one name and moq::expected one type through the generator
fork. The FFI shape line names MoqError's fields.

The C++ probe's cancel-then-read checks fail in about 1 of 30 runs at
C++17 and 2 of 20 at C++23: a cancelled read's spawned task keeps the
consumer's lock until the binding frees the future, so it takes the next
frame.

Grok review of be7739db (first review)

Moves the OBS plugin from moq-c onto a generated cpp/moq package over moq-ffi, with a per-object MoQWorker for continuations, a C++ interop client, and a cpp-v* release stream. I focused on the hand-written layer (moq.hpp, moq-worker.h, moq-output.cpp, moq-source.cpp teardown). The locking is coherent: Reset() always takes signal_mutex then media_mutex, the media paths only take media_mutex, and both destructors stop the worker without holding the lock its continuations park on. I found no blocking issues.

Non-blocking

  1. cpp/obs/src/moq-worker.h Stop(), the self-join branch. When Stop() runs on the worker thread, it detaches and returns. If that happens because a continuation dropped the last owner of a MoQOutput, or of the source ctx, the destructor frees the object while that continuation's frame is still running on it. Today nothing seems to destroy its owner from a continuation, but a debug assert, or a comment saying owners must never be destroyed on their own worker, would keep it that way.
  2. MoQOutput::~MoQOutput waits on each drain one after another. Each drain.wait() is bounded to about 1s by moq-ffi, but the waits add up. A few quick Reset/Start cycles before OBS destroys the output can stall the UI thread for several seconds. A single deadline shared across all the drains (wait_for(deadline - now)) would cap it.
  3. PacketTimestamp offset. timebase_den / timebase_num truncates for timebases that don't divide evenly (the TODO notes this). Audio and video can then get slightly different "1 second" offsets when their timebases differ, which skews A/V sync. util_mul_div64(1, den, num), or computing the offset in microseconds after the conversion, would avoid it.
  4. moq.hpp MOQ_ABI guard and the ~95 hand-kept aliases. These are fine for now and already tracked by quest/m1/cpp-generated-shape.md as Required for the first release. Just flagging that just cpp check is the only thing keeping the alias list complete until then.
  5. CI. Almost every check is still pending on this head. The PR body expects cpp.yml to flake on the cancelled-read race (quest/m0/ffi-cancel-read.md) and interop * -> js to fail as it does on main. Please confirm that nothing else is red before merging.

Verdict: MERGE, once CI is green apart from those known failures.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: be7739d
Follow-up to 0fed1c5; four additional commits, with no intervening merge/rebase.

No new actionable correctness findings in this delta.

The checked-result samples are an improvement: doc/lib/cpp/index.md:75–120 and cpp/moq/test/doc-samples.hpp:14–28 check errors before extracting values, including void results, while preserving optional end-of-stream handling. The sample prelude matches the updated pointer types and installed-header syntax-check path.

The native-library scope finding is addressed at sh/dispatch.sh:82; obs.yml already covers rs/moq-c/**. Note that just obs compile is syntax-only; the OBS workflow provides actual link coverage. The earlier interop field fix, OBS shutdown fix and generator pin remain unchanged.

Direction: retain the thin generated package. One canonical generated name and one expected type are sensible first-release prerequisites, now recorded in cpp-release.md:36; those API changes are still planned. The existing cancelled-read race and FFI publisher stall remain open in their m0 quests, rather than being fixed by this update.

Verification: GitHub-only static delta, API/sample and build-path review; state, head and all reviews rechecked before posting. No local build or runtime tests run. GitHub currently reports merge conflicts and no exact-head C++/OBS/Interop runs, so green integration is not established.

Merging at b778894529af7d32bf52d342740ef42ce856a79f with the maintainer's approval.

This round

  • Doc samples in doc/lib/cpp check every result through an ok() helper instead of dereferencing unchecked moq::expected values. The Errors section warns that with exceptions off below C++23, *result and value() on an error are undefined.
  • New quests:
    • quest/m1/cpp-generated-shape.md, required by the first cpp-v* release: the generator strips the Moq prefix and always uses tl::expected.
    • quest/m0/ffi-cancel-read.md: a cancelled moq-ffi read must not take the next read's data. That race is why the C++ probe flakes about 5-10% locally.
    • A note on quest/m1/ffi-shape/README.md to name MoqError's fields.
  • Merged origin/main. The only conflict was quest/m0/README.md, where main had finished the End of Group status quest.

Reviews: the OpenAI review of be7739db3 found nothing actionable. The head since then only adds the main merge. just check passed locally on the merge.

Decisions 8-12 in the description record the API review choices.

#4079 landed cpp/moq, cpp/obs, and the C++ interop client on the old
moq-ffi surface. Move them onto this line's shape:

- moq::ClientConfig / moq::ServerConfig replace the client and server
setters, and Request::accept takes its origins.
- Media importers, catalog, and container consumers are the
  moq::MediaTrackProducer, MediaTrackStreamProducer, MediaCatalogConsumer,
and MediaContainerConsumer constructors; the alias list follows.
- OBS fills a ClientConfig from its advanced settings, and moq-ffi's Config
error on Client::init refuses the start, naming the bad field. The
backoff defaults are repeated like the other knobs, since the record
  leaves them null.
