Gate the Lite-only session code by negotiated protocol
When an IETF session is aborted with Error::Unsupported, Session::abort still serializes SessionError::from(&err).to_code(), so this protocol-neutral mapping sends Lite-only code 0x30 on the IETF wire. Conversely, Error::from_transport uses SessionError::from_code, causing an incoming IETF 0x30 to be mislabeled Unsupported instead of Unknown. Encode and decode this code only at Lite-aware boundaries rather than in the shared session table.

Addressed in 8da84fd: SessionError::to_code/from_code no longer assign 0x30 (Unsupported encodes as Internal 0x1, and an incoming 0x30 stays Unknown). Lite translates at its boundary via lite::error, Version::session_code in Session::abort, and StreamCodes::decode_session_code in the supervisor. tests/session_close.rs covers both IETF directions.

Document the new AUTH unsupported contract
This introduces a public Rust error variant, a JavaScript session code, and new wire behavior for unsupported tokens and grants, but leaves doc/concept/moq-lite.md describing only UNAUTHORIZED outcomes. Update the authorization concept documentation so users know when Auth.add fails with Unsupported, how an acceptor explicitly rejects an unsupported token, and that an unrepresentable grant revokes only that token. Agreed, added one sentence to the Authorization paragraph of doc/concept/moq-lite.md in bb5f0dc: a token the peer has no verifier for, or whose grant is too large to send, fails with Unsupported and ends only that token. Wire codes stay in the draft per doc/AGENTS.md.

Map explicit IETF AUTH refusals to NOT_SUPPORTED
When a Rust acceptor calls Request::reject(SessionError::Unsupported, ...) on an IETF session, ietf::auth::to_code still recognizes only SessionError::Version, so it sends UNAUTHORIZED (0x1) instead of NOT_SUPPORTED (0x3) and the presenter observes Error::Session(Unauthorized). This makes the new public variant behave differently from the matching JavaScript path and from automatically rejected unrepresentable IETF grants; add Unsupported to that IETF AUTH mapping and cover an explicit Rust refusal across both protocols. Agreed, a regression from the new variant. Fixed in 50a322e: ietf::auth::to_code maps SessionError::Unsupported to NOT_SUPPORTED alongside Version, matching the JS refuse. a_refused_token_reports_the_code now also rejects a token with Unsupported and expects Error::Unsupported on Lite 07, MoQT 17, and MoQT 22; both MoQT cases failed before the fix.

Reviewed commit: 50a322e
No actionable bugs found after inspecting the full change and subsequent documentation and IETF AUTH fixes. AUTH_ERROR plus FIN preserves unsupported-token semantics after a grant; keeping Lite-only session translation at negotiated boundaries is the appropriate direction.
The independent findings on session-code isolation, user-facing documentation, and explicit Rust IETF refusals are addressed in the current source. The latter now maps Unsupported to NOT_SUPPORTED and has regression coverage across Lite 07, MoQT 17, and MoQT 22; those threads remain formally unresolved.
Verification limits: source review only; I did not run builds or tests. Current-head Check and Interop workflows were queued at review time, so this is not a claim that CI passed.

Reviewed commit: c749d0b
No actionable bugs found in the delta since my review of 50a322e; the base is unchanged. The targeted boundary fix is appropriate: unknown codes in Lite's 0x30–0x3f range now become Internal, while explicit Unsupported and application codes retain their intended encoding. The added unit test covers these distinctions.
CodeRabbit's unknown-code finding is fixed and its thread is resolved. The earlier AUTH and documentation fixes remain unchanged.
Verification limits: inspected the delta, surrounding error mappings, and draft rules; no builds or tests run, and no claim that CI passed.

Merge summary:
Follow-up: on main, an unknown Lite own-range (48-63) session code still goes out on MoQT unchanged, which the draft forbids at a bridge. (Written by Claude Opus 5.5) |
Adopt #5269's NOT_SUPPORTED: the relay refuses unverifiable in-band tokens with SessionError::Unsupported, and the draft and Lite reset shims are dropped. Both pending-AUTH overflows now refuse with TOO_MANY_REQUESTS. The relay tokens quest is complete, so it is deleted and its references updated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Problem
Lite AUTH reset an unrepresentable grant. After AUTH_OK, that loses the distinction between unsupported credentials and an ordinary stream failure. The original implementation also assigned Lite code
0x30meaning in the shared session registry, so IETF session aborts could emit it and incoming IETF closes could be misclassified.Approach
Send Lite AUTH_ERROR NOT_SUPPORTED and FIN for unsupported tokens or grants that cannot fit in one message, including updates. Preserve the historical initial-reset fallback. Keep Lite session code translation at the negotiated protocol boundary, including admission refusals, active-session aborts, stream operations, and supervisor close observation. Shared decoding preserves unregistered
0x30as unknown; IETF emits its internal-error fallback for a session-level Unsupported condition and retains request NOT_SUPPORTED0x3.Add simulated regressions for both outgoing and incoming session closes, admission refusals, explicit Rust/JS AUTH refusals, and the existing CI byte-level Rust/JS AUTH round trip.
Impact
SessionError::Unsupported; JavaScript addsSessionCode.UnsupportedandAuth.Unsupported.code. RustStreamCodesgains a defaultdecode_session_codemethod. Lite-only mapping helpers and negotiated session encoding stay private.SessionError::to_codeandfrom_codedescribe shared codes. Protocol drivers translate the Lite-only variant at their boundary; the shared enum does not assign Lite semantics to IETF0x30.0x30in AUTH_ERROR, documented in the Lite draft. IETF request and session registries retain their existing assignments.Alternatives
Keeping stream resets loses the explicit error after AUTH_OK. Sharing the Lite session entry with IETF leaks a protocol-specific meaning. The implemented recommendation is AUTH_ERROR plus FIN with negotiated boundary translation, following the quest's selected code and carrier.
Validation
Full Nix
just checkpasses on8da84fd2f: 5,957 default Rust tests, the required feature configurations, all JavaScript checks including 1,588 networking tests, and draft validation. All four cross-language byte preflights pass, including AUTH Unsupported. Two simulated regressions failed before the review fix on IETF17: active abort emitted Lite0x30, and incoming0x30became Unsupported. Admission coverage caught an additional Lite fallback regression during implementation. All 20 session setup/close cases pass after correction; focused Rust validation passed 1,738 tests with six skips, and JavaScript AUTH/error validation passed 81 tests. Tests use simulated transport/time. Prior oversized-grant/update and cross-language byte-boundary regressions remain in the PR.After merging main (#5235 and the AUTH_ERROR/expiry hardening),
just checkpasses on50a322ecb. An explicit Rustreject(SessionError::Unsupported, ..)on MoQT now sends NOT_SUPPORTED0x3like JS;a_refused_token_reports_the_codecovers it on all three auth versions and failed on both MoQT drafts before the fix. The merge keeps both sides of the session registry:0x13/0x17from main and Lite-only0x30here.just test interop --allpasses every pairing, auth, and refused-session lane, includinglite_auth_unsupported_interop; only the threetail rust -> *lanes fail, a pre-existing break on main since #5083 that #5359 fixes. CI'srust -> goandcpp -> cppunroutablefailures also occur on other branches.Follow-ups
