Outcome at Validation is combined honestly: the full gate at The native interop run exited zero: all 32 positive publisher × subscriber cells, the enforcing Rust denial round, CLI FETCH close, clean and cut finite tails, and five wire preflight tests passed. Browser Failure evidence is retained locally: initial scoped default run had 2,526 passes, 46 failures and 1 timeout (8 skipped); the timeout was a helper discarding unfinished groups. The first full gate stopped compiling an immutable downstream finish binding. The next had 1,145 passes, 1 FFI fixture failure and 6,469 unrun (31 skipped). Complete native collection then had 7,613 passes and 2 relay fixture failures (31 skipped). These fixtures now finish only completed groups; intentionally stalled writers remain open. The final Python fixture and cfg(loom) compile failure are also preserved with their passing reruns. No assertions or timeouts were weakened. All 72 existing group-cost benchmark cases completed. Context: AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT, Linux 6.18.56, CPUs 8–11, shared host, jobs 2, wall-clock timing, 10 samples, 100 ms warm-up and 1 s measurement. One relay, one broadcast per publisher, each viewer watches one broadcast, four 64-byte frames per group. Both 64 B and 1 MiB backpressure windows were measured. No before/after baseline or performance improvement is claimed. Representative median microseconds/round, 1 MiB window; each cell SUBSCRIBE / FETCH.
Browser validation remains blocked by the host's known pinned Chromium dependency issue; Swift has no toolchain here. The quest is retained, and this PR stays draft under the user's hold. Suggested continuation is (written by GPT-6.1-Sol) |
The new-group relay fixture keeps its landed groups open, since an unfinished writer that drops now aborts its group and releases the frames the refresh judgment reads. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
This PR completes it; browser interop runs nightly and no JS or FFI shape changes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

WalkthroughGroup producers now enforce single-writer ownership, while cloneable handles provide shared observation. Owned frames return the writer when committed, and receive groups restore writers after frame ingestion. Track storage and subscriber paths now use handles. Call sites, tests, benchmarks, fuzz helpers, and migration documents were updated for the revised lifecycle. Priority: ➖ Normal Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to

The range filter from #5929 hands its owed groups out as handles, and its tests finish or reveal through a handle, under the one-writer rule. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

A discarded group writer now aborts its group on the spot, so tests that dropped append_group()/create_group() to model a stalled or open group passed against a dead group instead. Hold those writers to the end of the test, and mark group::Producer must_use so a discarded writer warns. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Port the compression paths onto the single group writer (#6020): the Producer methods reach the state through its Handle, and adopt_head moved to Handle. Also fix the session bench's format string, which main left one placeholder short. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Problem
Cloneable group writers can race frame writes against finish. The track cache also keeps an unfinished writer alive after its owner drops, leaving readers waiting.
Change
Give each group one writer and a private non-writing
Handlefor caches and sessions. Owned frames take the writer and return it when they finish. Dropping an unfinished writer commitsDropped, releases cached frames, and retains committed recovery positions. Receive-frame cancellation reportsCanceland preserves an existing explicit abort cause.
