feat(hang)!: opt-in per-rendition hls records replace the root archive - #6783
Replaces the hang catalog's root archive section and its per-track timelines with an opt-in, per-rendition hls field, and rebuilds the HLS/DASH export on it.
Approach
Each rendition that opts in publishes its own <track>.hls record track, one record per HLS segment, and the edge lists exactly those records. Renditions share no state, at the publisher or the edge: each cuts its segments on a pts grid, so renditions whose keyframes share timestamps get matching segments without coordinating, and a ladder whose keyframes differ is still listed in full. Players already switch renditions by timestamp, so nothing needs segment numbers to match across renditions.
What changed
Catalog. Video and audio renditions gain hls: { track, duration } (duration in whole ms). The root archive (timelines, timescale, replay, replayEpoch, store, version) is gone; an old catalog still parses with it ignored, and a malformed hls is absent rather than rejecting the rendition. There is no alignment field.
Records.<track>.hls carries { sequence, group, pts, duration? } in ms, uncompressed, one per segment starting at a group boundary. A segment runs to the next record; a zero duration marks a stop (break or end). Each rendition numbers its own records.
Publisher (moq-mux).catalog::Config::with_hls enables records for video and audio renditions; nothing publishes them by default, and text tracks never do. A group starts a segment when its pts falls in a later multiple of the grid than the previous group's. The grid is hls::Config::duration (default 4s), or the smallest multiple of a reserved GOP hint at or past it, and a segment ceiling still ends one that runs long. A source that declares its own boundaries with cut() replaces the grid. An unhinted rendition declares the larger of the grid and its first segment. hls::Producer lets a self-segmenting publisher write its own records. catalog::Producer::abort aborts the record tracks with its cause.
Edge (moq-hls). Each rendition reads its own records, and segment n is record n. EXTINF, DASH t/d, and the last sample's duration come from records n and n+1, so a catalog estimate never changes served bytes; a trailing sample that already carries a duration keeps it. A stop, or a record its successor can't bound, is an EXT-X-GAP and is never fetched. A DASH $Time$ never resolves to a stop, and the manifest omits segmentAlignment. Each rendition counts its own discontinuities, plus publisher restarts, and a reconfigured rendition continues its predecessor's count. The segment tag hashes the record track and the normalized config, so a reconfigured rendition lists its later segments under new URLs; the replacement lists only the records its predecessor won't, while the predecessor drains its own. spans.rs, the reference handoff, and keyframe snapping are gone, and DASH has one period.
CLI.moq import --hls enables records for the stdin formats, hls, rtsp, and capture. srt, rtmp, rtc, and archive refuse it. moq export hls --output marks each playlist's own discontinuities.
JS.@moq/hang mirrors the schema (Catalog.HlsSchema, the hls field) and replaces the Timeline module with Hls.Consumer.
Draft draft-lcurley-moq-hang replaces its Timeline section with HLS Records (per-rendition numbering and discontinuities), and its moq-hang-04 changelog drops the archive and timeline bullets. The quest is deleted, hls-target becomes a broadcast-wide target, and hls-conformance gains an unaligned ladder.
Impact
Breaking (!), wire and API:
Wire: the hang catalog format changes. An old HLS exporter does not read hls, and a new one does not read archive, so upgrade exporters and publishers together. Publishers must opt in (doc/setup/upgrade.md). Record numbers are per rendition.
hang:
Removed: catalog::{Archive, Timeline}, Catalog::archive, and the timeline module.
Added: catalog::Hls, {Video,Audio}Config::hls, and hls::{Record, SUFFIX, default_name}.
Migrate by reading config.hls instead of catalog.archive.timelines[track].
Segment URL tags hash each rendition's record track and normalized config, so every URL changes once, and again for a rendition's later segments when it is reconfigured.
A rendition without hls gets no playlist. Segment numbers and Segment::discontinuity are per rendition.
Added: Rendition::hls(), the catalog field a rendition lists records from.
EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME is written after every discontinuity, not only on the first segment.
@moq/hang:Catalog.ArchiveSchema, ARCHIVE_VERSION, and Timeline are removed. Catalog.HlsSchema, the hls field, and Hls are added.
moq-cli: new import --hls. export hls lists nothing for a broadcast published without it. export hls --output numbers its segment files on from the first one it recorded, so a reconfigure onto another record track continues the recording, and it writes EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME like the edge.
MIGRATE entries are in hang, moq-mux, moq-hls, moq-cli, and @moq/hang; the stale with_timeline_hint in moq-video's guide is fixed.
catalog::Producer still holds a broadcast handle (the timeline set used to), so publishers that hand their broadcast to a media producer and drop it keep working.
Decisions
✅ Segments cut on a pts grid per rendition (maintainer-approved, from the alignment rethink). Matching keyframes give matching records with no shared state, including for late or rebuilt renditions. The pacer/follower machinery and the edge's lead check, verdicts, and lead-relative gaps are deleted.
Rejected: cutting at least D past each segment's start, which aligns renditions only when they start on the same group.
Cost: an unhinted GOP that doesn't divide the grid gives uneven segments (6, 3, 3, 6 s for a 3 s GOP on a 4 s grid); a hint fixes that.
✅ No aligned catalog flag (maintainer-approved). DASH omits segmentAlignment; HLS has no alignment tag.
✅ Discontinuity sequence numbers count per rendition (maintainer-approved). A break in one track makes its DSN diverge from its siblings'; the publisher causes that.
Rejected: a broadcast-wide break list, which makes every rendition wait on the others before listing.
✅ A reconfigured rendition gets new segment URLs at the edge, with no wire change (maintainer-approved). The tag folds in the normalized config, and the replacement lists only records after the ones its predecessor drains.
Rejected: a new record track per reconfiguration.
Choices made
duration_min is renamed duration, since a grid segment can be shorter than it.
An unhinted rendition declares the larger of the grid and its first segment, so a partial first segment doesn't understate the target; a rendition that stops before its first segment declares the grid.
The per-rendition discontinuity counts live in the edge's fanout, keyed by kind and name and pruned to live renditions, so a reconfigure's replacement shares its predecessor's count and a renaming publisher can't grow the table. The recorder starts each switch to another instance one discontinuity past its playlist's last entry, whatever that instance's own count starts at.
A stop is listed as a zero-length EXT-X-GAP, so the numbering stays consecutive; DASH omits it. So is a record whose successor goes backwards in group; one that goes backwards in pts still resets the window, as a publisher restart does.
The gateways (srt, rtmp, rtc) refuse --hls rather than silently publishing nothing. Plumbing it through them and the bindings is the follow-up quest hls-opt-in-gateways.
Records live on the catalog's broadcast even for a sibling-media rendition.
The tag hashes the normalized config's catalog JSON, so a bitrate, framerate, label, or enabled change keeps the URLs, matching what already keeps the rendition.
Merge with main
moq-dev/moq#6757 landed first, so its retire is ported to a crate-private hls::Tracks::retire, which finishes a name's .hls track and forgets it. The TS PMT churn test counts record tracks instead of timelines.
moq-dev/moq#6771's background init builds and first-video manifest wait are ported to records. An inline init reads a complete group (one a later segment followed) before one only a stop bounds, which may still be open.
moq-dev/moq#6805's moq-studio reserves its program video with with_hls_hint.
moq-dev/moq#6827 removed the catalog rendition cap and the old Timeline JS exports alongside this PR's; both MIGRATE entries are kept.
moq-dev/moq#6794 documented the fields of js/hang/src/timeline.ts, which stays deleted; the hang API reports are regenerated with its API Extractor setup.
moq-dev/moq#6777's recorder and moq-dev/moq#6776's session tests publish with with_hls, record stops as gaps, and read segment tags from the rendition.
moq-dev/moq#6816's takeover test skips the stop gap the old run ends with, which carries no media.
Follow-ups
Gateways and bindings opt-in. Quest: hls-opt-in-gateways.
A broadcast-wide EXT-X-TARGETDURATION. Quest: hls-target.
Player-level conformance, including an unaligned ladder. Quest: hls-conformance.
Checks
Grid rewrite: just check passed py, cpp, OBS, and kt; check flake failed on the local sandbox (unshare: ... Operation not permitted) and cancelled the rest, so these ran on their own and passed: just rs lint-changed/test-changed, just js check-changed/test-changed, just drafts check, markdown, just gh check/test, quest check, large files, toml, shell, ts-paths, and the drill patches.
The trailing-sample test (a_timed_trailing_sample_keeps_its_duration) failed before its fix.
Codex round on 7432cdd (recorder record-track identity, wall clock after a discontinuity): cargo nextest run -p moq-cli -p moq-hls --all-features (487 passed), clippy on both, just rs lint-changed, markdown.
Codex round on f72042a (Opus trailing duration): cargo nextest run -p moq-mux -p moq-hls -p moq-cli --all-features (2236 passed), -p moq-ffi (267 passed), just rs lint-changed.
Merge with main at 9b423a5: just check passed every selected lane (toml, quest, and drill included) except flake, which skipped itself because the local builder cannot create user namespaces, and swift, which has no local toolchain. just test interop --all passed.
CodeRabbit round on 9b423a5, each with a test that failed before its fix:
Muxer::fragment measures the end gap at the output timescale, like the gaps between samples. Before, an end gap that is not whole ticks (33,333 µs at 30 kHz) failed the segment with SampleDurationInexact (an_end_is_quantized_at_the_output_timescale).
The recorder's switch to an instance whose count starts lower still writes a discontinuity (a_switch_to_a_lower_sequence_is_a_discontinuity).
The DASH manifest answers a failed rendition's error only when no sibling can list, so one whose init is still building gets no 500 (a_failed_rendition_waits_for_a_sibling_init).
Declined, with a reply: a discontinuity at a reconfigure's handoff at the edge.
Merge with main at e1da2dc: just check passed every selected lane (toml and quest included) except flake (local builder cannot create user namespaces) and swift (no local toolchain); cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings and just test interop --all passed.
Not run: nightly lanes and real-player playback (the hls-conformance quest).
Producer side: hang catalog drops the root archive section, video and audio
renditions gain an opt-in hls field, and moq-mux publishes HLS segment records
only when catalog::Config::with_hls enables them. moq-hls export not yet ported.

[P2] Preserve follower boundaries when the pacer reports later — rs/moq-mux/src/hls.rs:268–274. With two video tracks enrolled before playback and aligned 4-second GOPs, reporting the follower frame just before the corresponding pacer frame discards the initial follower group because its cut has not arrived. The later cut only queues a timestamp; it never revisits that group. Follower record 0 then starts at 4 seconds rather than 0, breaking cross-rendition segment alignment and producing gaps for valid media. This is separate from late enrollment. Retain pending follower group starts or reconcile incoming pacer cuts with already-reported groups, and test follower-first reporting order.
[P2] Exclude stop rows from DASH time-address lookup — rs/moq-hls/src/export/segments.rs:387–393. A stop and resumed segment can share a PTS: start(0 ms), stop(4000 ms), start(4000 ms), next(8000 ms). The MPD omits the stop and advertises the resumed segment at t=4000, but segment_number_at selects the earlier stop row. Fetch treats that as a gap and returns 404 for the advertised DASH URL. Exclude stop rows from $Time$ resolution and cover immediate resume at the stop timestamp.
Overall direction: per-rendition opt-in records simplify the edge and make byte timing explicit. Publisher coordination needs the ordering fix above; the documented gateway and late-enrollment follow-ups remain explicit limitations, not new findings.
Verification: static inspection of changed code and relevant surrounding Rust/JS code. No tests, builds or real-player playback run; PR-reported checks were not independently verified.

The change replaces the root archive timeline model with opt-in HLS segment records on video and audio renditions. The mux publishes records with segment sequence, starting group, PTS, and optional duration. CLI imports can enable record publication with --hls for supported sources. JavaScript and Rust consumers read record tracks, and the HLS exporter builds playlists and DASH manifests from each rendition’s records. Migration guidance, tests, and API reports are updated for the new model.
Priority: Normal
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 9b423
A playlist built after a record-track replacement can omit a required discontinuity marker. Handoff replacements and the manifest endpoint have narrower correctness gaps, and final-sample durations can be wrong for coarse-timescale sources. Fix the discontinuity handling before merging.

Ports main's changes onto per-rendition HLS records:
- #6757: `retire` moves to `hls::Tracks::retire`, and the TS PMT churn test counts record tracks.
- #6777 and #6776: the recorder and session tests publish with `with_hls`, read stops as gaps, and take segment tags from the rendition.
- The segment cursor yields gaps, as main now does.
A reconfigured rendition's segment tag now folds in its normalized config, and its replacement lists only the records after its predecessor's, so one URL never names two muxes. A dropping pacer no longer makes followers stop early.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… time
- A follower that reports a group before the pacer's cut keeps it as undecided,
so the cut still starts its segment there.
- catalog::Producer::abort aborts the record tracks with its cause instead of
finishing them.
- A DASH $Time$ never resolves to a stop row.
- A record its successor can't bound is a gap row, keeping its number.
- The draft drops a contradicting sentence and obsolete moq-hang-04 bullets.
- The @moq/hang API reports match the merged schema.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Both OpenAI findings from the review of cce13db are fixed:
Follower boundaries when the follower reports first: a follower now keeps the groups it reported before the pacer's cut as undecided, and a cut that arrives later begins its segment at the first undecided group at or after the cut's pts. Duplicate cuts are ignored. Covered by a_follower_reporting_first_keeps_the_pacers_boundaries; followers_number_segments_like_the_pacer and a_follower_starts_at_the_pacers_segments now expect the pacer's boundaries.
DASH $Time$ and stops: segment_number_at skips stop rows, so a resume at the stop's timestamp resolves to the resumed segment. Covered by a_time_names_the_resumed_segment_not_the_stop.
While fixing (1), a pacer that dropped stopped its followers' segments early; dropping a recorder now only wakes its followers. The record test a_reconfigured_rendition_continues_its_playlist covers it.
No new actionable bugs found in the changed HLS paths since the previous review, accounting for main integration.
Both prior P2 findings are fixed: rs/moq-mux/src/hls.rs retains follower-first group starts and reconciles them when the pacer's cut arrives; rs/moq-hls/src/export/segments.rs excludes stop rows from DASH time lookup. The new regression cases cover the reported order and shared-stop/resume timestamp.
Direction: keeping config-sensitive URL identity and predecessor/replacement claims at the edge is a reasonable alternative to changing the publisher wire format. The added coordination is justified by stable cached segment identities. Documented late-enrollment numbering and gateway opt-in limitations remain follow-ups.
Verification: static inspection of the delta, relevant surrounding code and regression tests only. No builds, tests or real-player playback run; PR-reported results were not independently verified.
…lments
- A follower forgets groups and cuts more than a segment ceiling behind the
newest, so a stalled pacer or an idle follower costs alignment, not memory.
- A recorder that ends without declaring drops its declaration callback,
which held the catalog and kept the broadcast open.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
No new actionable bugs found in the two-file delta from the last reviewed head.
The independently reported stalled-rendition history growth is addressed for progressing media timestamps by pruning queued groups/cuts outside the alignment horizon. The undeclared-enrollment ownership cycle is broken by clearing the unused declaration callback when its recorder drops. New tests target both queue directions and drop-before-first-frame cleanup. Our earlier follower-ordering and DASH stop-lookup fixes remain intact.
Direction: a bounded alignment horizon and explicit callback release are small, appropriate fixes without adding timers or letting followers silently invent their own pacing. The deliberate limitation remains: a living but silent pacer can leave a follower's segment open; this change bounds retained history rather than restoring playback.
Verification: static inspection of the delta and surrounding ownership/segmenter paths only. No tests or builds run; test results are not independently verified.
A text track enrolled before the media became their pacer, so a sparse
subtitle track held every video and audio segment open. Only video and audio
renditions advertise records, so only they enroll.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
No new actionable bugs found in this one-file update. The independent text/data pacer enrollment finding is fixed: catalog::Producer::media enrolls only the built-in video/audio rendition types, covering direct and reserved constructors. fMP4 passthrough already handles subtitles separately. The added text-first regression checks that text creates no record track and subsequent video advertises HLS records.
Direction: restricting enrollment at the shared constructor is a small, appropriate fix consistent with which catalog roles expose hls; no extra pacer-selection machinery is needed. Earlier fixes remain unchanged, as do the documented live-but-silent media-pacer and late-enrollment limitations.
Verification: static inspection of the delta and relevant constructor/import paths only. No tests or builds run.
…other record track
A playlist wrote EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME only on its first segment, so
content that stopped and resumed later lost its wall-clock mapping;
with discontinuities counted per rendition, that mapping is what lets
a player resync. The edge and the recorder now restate it after each
discontinuity.
The recorder treated a replacement reading another record track as a
repeat of its predecessor's numbers and discarded it. It now compares
numbers only within one record track (Rendition::hls names it) and
numbers its own segments on from the first one recorded.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Replacement record-track identity: overlap checks now apply only within the same source track, while output filenames and playlist sequence numbers continue consecutively across replacements.
Resumed program date-time: each segment retains its mapped clock, and both HTTP playlists and recordings restate it after discontinuities.
Direction: separating source identity from recording numbering and carrying timestamps through rendering are focused fixes without restoring cross-rendition coordination. Earlier fixes remain intact; the documented target-duration and discontinuity compatibility limits remain outside these fixes.
Verification: static inspection of the single-commit delta, recording admission/write/render paths and added tests; unchanged base. No builds, tests or player playback run.

Preserve codec-defined audio durations before applying the endpoint
For Legacy/LOC Opus audio with sub-millisecond timestamps, this assigns an incorrect duration to the final packet. Those containers decode frames with duration: None, so this endpoint-derived value prevents apply_codec_durations from subsequently using the packet's intrinsic duration. For example, a 20 ms packet at 3980.5 ms followed by a group at 4000.5 ms gets a 19.5 ms duration because the HLS endpoint is floored to 4000 ms, producing 936 ticks instead of 960 at 48 kHz. This introduces a timing gap at segment boundaries. Resolve codec-defined durations before supplying an endpoint-derived fallback. (Written by GPT-6.1 Sol)
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in a1af6f0. Muxer::fragment now takes the end and applies it after codec durations, to the last presented sample only when nothing else times it, so a 20 ms Opus packet at 3980.5 ms keeps its 960 ticks. Test: an_end_times_only_an_untimed_last_sample in rs/moq-mux/src/container/fmp4/muxer.rs.
The edge timed a segment's last sample from the record's end before the
muxer applied codec durations, so an Opus packet at a sub-millisecond
timestamp took the millisecond-floored end (936 ticks instead of 960).
Muxer::fragment now takes the end and applies it after codec
durations, to the last presented sample only when nothing else times

The independent codec-defined audio duration finding is fixed: the muxer applies intrinsic Opus durations before considering the segment endpoint, and preserves already-timed samples. The added test covers the sub-millisecond Opus case and the untimed-video fallback. Earlier record-track identity and program-date-time fixes remain intact.
Direction: putting this precedence in the muxer avoids duplicating codec knowledge at the HLS edge. The new optional endpoint argument and migration note make the API change explicit.
Verification: static inspection of the single-commit delta, codec-duration and inference helpers, changed callers and tests; unchanged base. No builds or tests run.
Grid rewrite (7432cdd). Each rendition cuts its own segments on a pts grid and numbers its own records. The pacer/follower, the edge's lead check and verdicts, and lead-relative gaps are deleted. There is no aligned catalog flag, so DASH omits segmentAlignment. Discontinuities are counted per rendition, and a reconfigure's replacement keeps its predecessor's count. hls::Config::duration_min is renamed duration. The trailing-sample P1 is fixed, and the follower P1 is gone with the follower.
Codex round 1 (f72042a).EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME is written after every discontinuity, at the edge and in the export hls --output recorder. The recorder compares segment numbers only within one record track (new Rendition::hls()), and numbers its own files.
Codex round 2 (a1af6f0).Muxer::fragment takes the segment end and applies it after codec durations, so a sub-millisecond Opus packet keeps its stated duration.
Codex approved a1af6f0. quest check passed against origin/main.
Follow-ups: the hls-target (broadcast-wide target duration), hls-conformance, and hls-opt-in-gateways quests.
js/hang/src/timeline.ts stays deleted: main only documented its fields
(#6794), and this branch replaces the module with Hls.Consumer. The hang
API reports are regenerated with main's API Extractor setup.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Merged origin/main at 9b423a5 after the queue dropped this on a conflict with moq-dev/moq#6794. That PR documented the fields of js/hang/src/timeline.ts, which this PR deletes, so it stays deleted and the hang API reports are regenerated with the new API Extractor setup. just check passed every selected lane except flake (the local builder cannot create user namespaces) and swift (no local toolchain), and just test interop --all passed. Codex approved the new head. Requeueing.

preserve fractional gaps at the muxer’s output timescale. Avoid converting `end`

output timescale, then retain the nonzero check and assign it to
`last.duration`.

No new actionable bugs found in the three substantive fixes.
Independent findings addressed:
Recorder discontinuity regression: switching recalculates the offset from the last output count, so a replacement starting lower still advances the playlist's count.
Pending sibling init: a healthy enabled sibling returning no representation yet prevents another rendition's isolated error from failing the manifest.
Endpoint precision: the final duration uses output-timescale endpoint quantization, preserving coarse-input and fractional-tick cases while retaining codec-duration precedence.
Direction: these reuse existing duration and rendering machinery with focused state changes. The separately discussed HTTP handoff discontinuity remains deferred, not fixed or a new finding here.
Verification: static inspection of the fix commit and current merged implementations, surrounding admission/rendering paths and regression tests; inherited main changes were not treated as new PR findings. No builds, tests or player playback run.
Landing e1da2dc. Since the queue dropped 9b423a5 on a conflict:
Merged origin/main twice (no rebase), through moq-dev/moq#6648. The moq-net cluster needed only mechanical ports (lifetime-free Relative::new(..)?, requests(), moq-ffi's per-rendition-priority track reserving with with_hls_hint); archive.rs and its tests stay deleted, and every MIGRATE entry is kept. moq-dev/moq#6816's takeover test now skips the stop gap the old run ends with.
Fixed three CodeRabbit findings on 9b423a5, each with a test that failed first: the fMP4 end gap is quantized at the output timescale (an end gap of 33,333 µs at 30 kHz failed the whole segment with SampleDurationInexact), the recorder keeps discontinuities rising across a switch to an instance that counts from lower, and the DASH manifest waits on a sibling whose init is still building instead of answering a failed rendition's error. Declined the handoff discontinuity, which CodeRabbit withdrew.
Design unchanged: grid segmentation with no alignment flag, per-rendition DSNs, records opt-in via with_hls.
just check (every selected lane; flake and swift skip locally), workspace clippy with -D warnings, just test interop --all, and quest check passed. Codex approved the new head.

Replaces the hang catalog's root
archivesection and its per-track timelines with an opt-in, per-renditionhlsfield, and rebuilds the HLS/DASH export on it.Approach
Each rendition that opts in publishes its own
<track>.hlsrecord track, one record per HLS segment, and the edge lists exactly those records. What changed
hls: { track, duration }(duration in whole ms). The rootarchive(timelines, timescale, replay, replayEpoch, store, version) is gone; an old catalog still parses with it ignored, and a malformedhlsis absent rather than rejecting the rendition. There is no alignment field.<track>.hlscarries{ sequence, group, pts, duration? }in ms, uncompressed, one per segment starting at a group boundary. A segment runs to the next record; a zerodurationmarks a stop (break or end). Each rendition numbers its own records.moq-mux).catalog::Config::with_hlsenables records for video and audio renditions; nothing publishes them by default, and text tracks never do. A group starts a segment when its pts falls in a later multiple of the grid than the previous group's. The grid ishls::Config::duration(default 4s), or the smallest multiple of a reserved GOP hint at or past it, and a segment ceiling still ends one that runs long. A source that declares its own boundaries withcut()replaces the grid. An unhinted rendition declares the larger of the grid and its first segment.hls::Producerlets a self-segmenting publisher write its own records.catalog::Producer::abortaborts the record tracks with its cause.moq-hls). Each rendition reads its own records, and segmentnis recordn.EXTINF, DASHt/d, and the last sample's duration come from recordsnandn+1, so a catalog estimate never changes served bytes; a trailing sample that already carries a duration keeps it. A stop, or a record its successor can't bound, is anEXT-X-GAPand is never fetched. A DASH$Time$never resolves to a stop, and the manifest omitssegmentAlignment. Each rendition counts its own discontinuities, plus publisher restarts, and a reconfigured rendition continues its predecessor's count. The segment tag hashes the record track and the normalized config, so a reconfigured rendition lists its later segments under new URLs; the replacement lists only the records its predecessor won't, while the predecessor drains its own.spans.rs, the reference handoff, and keyframe snapping are gone, and DASH has one period.moq import --hlsenables records for the stdin formats, hls, rtsp, andcapture.srt, rtmp, rtc, andarchiverefuse it.moq export hls --outputmarks each playlist's own discontinuities.@moq/hangmirrors the schema (Catalog.HlsSchema, thehlsfield) and replaces theTimelinemodule withHls.Consumer.draft-lcurley-moq-hangreplaces its Timeline section with HLS Records (per-rendition numbering and discontinuities), and its moq-hang-04 changelog drops the archive and timeline bullets.
