The 9.19 wheel on PyPI has no pgadmin/static/js/generated, so every install from it sits on "Loading pgAdmin" whilst the bundle 404s. The release candidate builds the wheel with check-python-build.yml on a hosted runner whose global Yarn is 1.22 and which never enables Corepack, so yarn install and yarn run bundle both refused to run (packageManager defines yarn@4.15.0). pkg/pip/build.sh has no set -e, so the job stayed green. commit_hash and sbom.json are missing for the same reasons (the bundle writes the former, and syft was not installed).

  • check-python-build.yml: set up Node, enable Corepack and install syft, matching the DEB and RPM builds.
  • pkg/pip/build.sh: set -e like the other package scripts, plus an explicit check that app.bundle.js made it into the wheel tree.
  • acceptance-test.yml: after installing the wheel, check that the bundle, commit_hash and sbom.json were installed. Importing the package alone passed for the broken wheel.

This fixes future builds only. The published 9.19 wheel still needs replacing (see the issue).

Test plan

  • The new acceptance check passes against the 9.18 wheel and fails against the 9.19 wheel from PyPI
  • check-python-build on this PR builds a wheel containing the bundle

Closes #10712

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Package builds now stop when a command fails or required application assets are missing.
    • Release checks verify that the installed package includes the application bundle, commit information, and software inventory.
    • The build environment has been updated to support generating and validating these package contents.

…admin-org#10712

The release candidate builds the wheel on a GitHub-hosted runner, where
the global Yarn is 1.x and Corepack is not enabled, so yarn install and
yarn run bundle both refused to run. pkg/pip/build.sh carried on
regardless, and 9.19 was published without pgadmin/static/js/generated,
commit_hash or the SBOM, leaving the web interface stuck loading.

Enable Corepack and install syft in check-python-build.yml as the other
package builds do, stop pkg/pip/build.sh at the first failure and check
for the bundle explicitly, and have the acceptance test check the
installed wheel for the bundle, commit_hash and sbom.json.

Walkthrough

The Python build workflow prepares packaging tools and Node.js. The build script stops on command failures and checks for the generated JavaScript bundle. The acceptance workflow verifies that the installed wheel contains the bundle, commit hash, and SBOM.

This change makes wheel builds fail loudly when the JavaScript bundle or related files are missing, which addresses the 9.19 packaging problem. Before merging, consider enabling pipefail in the build script and adding read-only workflow permissions. Neither is likely to block the intended fix.

Explanation

The supplied change summary lists only .github/workflows/acceptance-test.yml, .github/workflows/check-python-build.yml, and pkg/pip/build.sh. The checks and build safeguards in those files directly support issue #10712 by detecting or preventing wheels without the JavaScript bundle and related generated files. No unrelated change is established.

Explanation

Issue #10712 requires the 9.19 startup failure and its static-file 404s to be fixed. The changes prevent future broken wheels: check-python-build.yml enables Corepack and installs Syft, pkg/pip/build.sh fails on build errors and checks for app.bundle.js, and acceptance-test.yml checks the installed bundle, commit_hash, and sbom.json. However, the PR description states that the published 9.19 wheel still needs replacement, and these changes do not replace that wheel. The reported 9.19 failure therefore remains possible for users of the published artifact.

Resolution

Rebuild and publish the 9.19 wheel with pgadmin/static/js/generated/app.bundle.js, commit_hash, and sbom.json, or otherwise update the linked issue so that its coding target is limited to preventing future broken wheels.

Declare read-only workflow permissions.

This workflow runs repository-controlled build commands but does not need to write repository contents. Forked pull requests are normally downgraded by GitHub, but same-repository pull requests and direct runs can still use permissive defaults. Add a workflow-level read-only boundary.
