Dashboard opens at once and fills in part by part - #405
The dashboard waited for every request before showing anything, so its slowest part held up the whole page. On app-dev that was the two "Latest failures" searches: one took 12.7s just to find its rows.
The page opens at once. Each tile and panel fills in when its own numbers arrive, with a placeholder until then.
A part that fails says "unavailable right now", and the rest of the page stays.
The pending retries, queue alerts and latest failures are now separate requests.
The dashboard description in the docs is brought up to date, and a caveat that no longer applies is removed.
On a local copy with 3.1M exchanges, the page shows in 0.2s. The latest-failures search and the in-flight count are still slow on app-dev; they just no longer hold up the page.

Summary
Summary
Replaced the combined dashboard request with separate requests for metrics, pending retries, queue alerts, and latest failures.
Dashboard sections now load independently. Each section can show a loading placeholder or an unavailable message without blocking the rest of the page.
Updated dashboard tests and documentation. Removed an obsolete caveat about the failure count.
Risk
risk:medium. The change affects dashboard API contracts and query behavior. Failures or delays in one request should no longer block other sections.
Security-sensitive areas
No authentication, authorization, or security-control changes are identified in the supplied change summary. The changes affect client-side data fetching and display.
Test coverage impact
Updated unit and end-to-end tests cover independent loading and request failure. Test execution results were not supplied.
Deployment and operations
No database migration is identified. The frontend now depends on separate dashboard requests. The documentation says dashboard queries retry every minute. The PR description reports a 0.2-second initial display on a local dataset; this result was not independently verified.
The dashboard replaces a combined data request with separate queries for metrics, subscriptions, retries, queue alerts, and latest failures. Each section can render its own loading or unavailable state. The tests and operations documentation now describe this behavior.
Changes: Dashboard independent data loading
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Separate dashboard API requests SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/api/types.ts, SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/api/client.ts, SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/api/queryKeys.ts, SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/api/http/dashboard.ts
The API replaces getDashboard with separate latest-failure, pending-retry, and queue-alert methods. Latest failures use a dedicated type, and each request has its own query key.
The page fetches dashboard data independently. Sections show loading or unavailable states while other data renders. Metrics-dependent panels wait for metrics, and latest failures are enriched with subscription names.
Behavior validation and documentation SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/pages/dashboard/__tests__/DashboardPage.test.tsx, SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/e2e/dashboard.spec.ts, docs/operations.md, docs/caveats.md
Tests cover independently loading and unavailable sections. Operations documentation describes the dashboard panels and refresh behavior. The caveat about the failure tile is removed.
The dashboard can load sections independently, with bounded remaining gaps in backlog status visibility, automated checks and operational documentation. These warrant follow-up but do not establish a serious production failure or merge blocker.

Show the unavailable state when a refresh fails, even when the last count is retained.
StatTile reads failed only when value is undefined. After a successful load, a failed background refetch keeps the last count, so the tile keeps showing that count with no error text until a later refetch succeeds. The failed-first condition sets the value to "-" and the sub-text to "unavailable right now" for failed tiles. Tiles that are not failed render as before.
Suggested fix

Show a stale-data notice when latest failures fail to refresh.
The latest-failures list and its "Nothing has failed" empty state do not read latestFailures.isError. The query has retry: false and refetches every 60 seconds. If a refresh fails after a successful load, the query keeps the last rows. The panel then shows those rows, or "Nothing has failed" for an empty list, as current. The "unavailable" text appears only when no data has loaded.

Wait for the retry-chain and latest-failures loaders.
The new check matches only loading…, and neither panel loader contains that text. The latest-failures panel shows Finding the latest failures…. The Chains panel shows Reading the retry chains….
The existing Chains checks also do not wait for retry-chain data. Panel renders its title outside its children, so the heading stays visible while the loader is shown. The attempt-row block reads the DOM once with count() and skips the click when no rows exist. No assertion reads the latest-failures panel. A panel that stays pending can pass this test. Add a toHaveCount(0) check for each label.

Add a test where latest failures render while overview stays pending.
Add a test where latest failures render while overview stays pending.
The "opens at once" test keeps /metrics/overview pending and asserts only the "Finding the latest failures…" loading text. An implementation that holds latest-failure rows until the overview resolves would still show that text and pass. No test in this file asserts completed latest-failure rows, so the independent loading of that section has no regression check.
Add a test that keeps /metrics/overview pending, answers the latest-failure /xchanges requests (StatusFilter:1:3 and StatusFilter:1:2) with failure data, and asserts that the rows render.

The dashboard, opened from the logo, shows the last 24 hours of exchanges, failures and end-to-end time, the 7-day success rate, waiting retries, queue alerts and subscriptions that have gone quiet. Below come traffic for the last 48 hours against the same hours a week before, volume for the last 30 days, unhealthy subscriptions, the latest failures, the busiest subscriptions and partners, the slowest adapters, and configuration worth tidying up. The traffic figures come from hourly metrics the server keeps, so they count every exchange however busy the instance is.
Two parts come from the server instead. **Failures to act on** counts failed exchanges that are the newest attempt of their chain, of any age, and links to that search. **Chains that keep failing** lists the five retry chains with the most attempts among those retried in the last 7 days, with the success rate of retries over the same 7 days. A part that can't be read in time shows as unavailable while the rest of the dashboard loads.

Add the in-flight count and latest-failures search to the exchange-read note.
Line 74 says two dashboard parts are read from the exchanges. Two more dashboard requests also search the exchanges: the in-flight count and the latest-failures list. Operators who use this note to find slow exchange queries will miss them.

Fix the Housekeeping docs claim, or add its error state and refresh.
The docs say a part that can't be read shows as unavailable and is asked again every minute. Housekeeping does neither. Its insights query has no refetchInterval, and its render checks only !insights.data. When /metrics/insights fails, the panel keeps showing "Looking over the configuration…". Server errors are retried up to three times, and no periodic request follows.
To make Housekeeping match the docs, add a periodic refresh and an error branch:
- {!insights.data ? (+ {insights.isError && !insights.data ? (+ <EmptyState title="Unavailable right now">The configuration check could not be read.</EmptyState>+ ) : !insights.data ? (
<LoadingBlock label="Looking over the configuration…" />
Otherwise, remove the per-minute and unavailable claim for this panel from docs/operations.md.

Reject the error state at the metrics wait.
Line 14 passes when the overview fails. The error state renders the metric tiles as - with "unavailable right now" and the Traffic and Volume panels as "Unavailable right now". None of these show "loading…", so the check passes. Nothing else in the spec reads a metric value or chart. The "Failures to act on" tile uses a separate query, so it does not cover the overview.

Show a loading or unavailable placeholder in the broker backlog panel while overview metrics are absent.
Line 591 renders the whole backlog panel only when o (the overview metrics data) is defined. While the overview request is pending on a first visit, or fails before any data arrives, the panel is removed. The docs now name every dashboard part that is read from the exchanges.
Housekeeping shows "unavailable" when it can't be read, and refreshes every minute.
The e2e waits for the latest failures and the retry chains as well. It fails when the exchanges tile reads "unavailable right now". The check covers only that tile, because Queue alerts also says it when RabbitMQ management is down.
A new test shows the latest failures arriving while the metrics are still pending.
Keeping these as they are:
Broker backlog placeholder: the panel only exists on instances that have backlog data. Showing it while the metrics load would make it appear and then vanish on every instance without that data.
For best results, initiate chat on the files or code changes.
@hamzahalq Acknowledged the fixes reported in 925d0aa9: documentation coverage, Housekeeping error handling and refresh, stronger e2e checks, and the independent-loading test.
I accept the two retained behaviors:
Render the broker backlog panel only when backlog data exists.
Keep the last loaded values in StatTile and latest failures after a failed refresh. Show “unavailable” only when no data has loaded.
No further changes requested for those two behaviors. I have not independently verified the commit.

The dashboard waited for every request before showing anything, so its slowest part held up the whole page. On app-dev that was the two "Latest failures" searches: one took 12.7s just to find its rows.
On a local copy with 3.1M exchanges, the page shows in 0.2s. The latest-failures search and the in-flight count are still slow on app-dev; they just no longer hold up the page.
