Retain press event and handle cancellation packages/react-native-gesture-handler/src/v3/components/StatefulPressable.tsx |
StatefulPressable saves the press-in event. On iOS cancellation during an active press, it calls handlePressOut with that event or a view-center event, marks the press unsuccessful, and returns. |

-
Explanation
The title names the iOS fix for a missing onPressOut in StatefulPressable. The change matches this: on iOS, a canceled native gesture while the press is held now calls handlePressOut with the retained press-in event. The title is specific and states the main change, so it passes.

Explanation
The change satisfies
#4630. On iOS, a canceled native gesture callshandlePressOutwhile the press is active. The retained press-in event supports this callback. The change marks the press unsuccessful, soonPressOutfires withoutonPress. The existing finalization path remains for other cases.

…gesture (#4639) ## Description On Android, a `Pressable` with `requireToFail` dropped the whole press on a quick tap: `onPressIn` fired, `onPressOut` and `onPress` never did. When the awaited gesture won, the press was left without `onPressOut` too. iOS was fine. The long press gesture had an Android-only branch in `onTouchesUp` that reset the state machine and finalized the press as soon as the finger lifted. That assumes the button gesture has already finished by then. With `requireToFail` the button is still awaiting the other gesture when the finger lifts, so the reset ran first and the button's later FINALIZE or CANCEL met an empty state machine. The reset dates from #3571 and never acted on a working path: on a plain tap, drag-out, scroll steal or parent pan the button finishes first and `handlePressOut` has already finalized. On Android the native handler always ends or cancels on pointer up, so the press is always closed without it. This PR removes the branch, which also removes the dependency on the orchestrator's delivery order. The cancel branch added in #4633 loses its iOS gate, so a button cancelled while the press is held delivers `onPressOut` on every native platform. ## Test plan Tested on a Pixel 9 Pro emulator and an iPhone 17 simulator with the screen below. Tap each box once. Before, on Android, the second box logs only `onPressIn`. After, both boxes log `onPressIn`, `onPressOut`, `onPress`. A double tap on the second box logs `onPressIn`, `onPressOut` and the double tap. ```tsx import React, { useState } from 'react'; import { StyleSheet, Text, View } from 'react-native'; import { GestureDetector, GestureHandlerRootView, Pressable, useTapGesture, } from 'react-native-gesture-handler'; export default function Repro() { const [lines, setLines] = useState<string[]>([]); const log = (line: string) => setLines((current) => [...current.slice(-7), line]); const doubleTap = useTapGesture({ numberOfTaps: 2, runOnJS: true, onActivate: () => log('doubleTap activated'), }); return ( <GestureHandlerRootView style={styles.container}> <Pressable onPressIn={() => log('plain: onPressIn')} onPressOut={() => log('plain: onPressOut')} onPress={() => log('plain: onPress')}> <View style={styles.box}> <Text>Plain Pressable</Text> </View> </Pressable> <GestureDetector gesture={doubleTap}> <View> <Pressable requireToFail={doubleTap} onPressIn={() => log('requireToFail: onPressIn')} onPressOut={() => log('requireToFail: onPressOut')} onPress={() => log('requireToFail: onPress')}> <View style={styles.box}> <Text>Pressable with requireToFail</Text> </View> </Pressable> </View> </GestureDetector> <Text style={styles.log}>{lines.join('\n')}</Text> </GestureHandlerRootView> ); } const styles = StyleSheet.create({ container: { flex: 1, alignItems: 'center', paddingTop: 40, gap: 24 }, box: { width: 300, height: 80, backgroundColor: '#b58df1', alignItems: 'center', justifyContent: 'center', }, log: { width: 300, fontSize: 14 }, }); ``` Also checked on both platforms that a plain tap, a hold, a drag out of the box, a disable under the finger, a drag inside an RN and an RNGH `ScrollView`, a parent pan, a nested `Pressable`, `hitSlop` and `unstable_pressDelay` behave as before.
## Description When a `Pressable` has `requireToFail`, the native button finalizes only after the other gesture fails, so the long press timer started at press-in keeps running after the finger lifted. With the default tap `maxDelay` (200 ms) and `delayLongPress` (500 ms), a tap held for 300 to 500 ms logs `onLongPress` about 100 ms after the lift and never gets `onPress`. This was always the case on iOS; #4639 brought Android to the same state. The long press gesture now stops the pending timer on touch up. To keep a real long press suppressing `onPress`, the fired timer clears its own id, `cancelLongPress` no longer touches `isOnPressAllowed`, and every press-in resets the flag instead. No new hooks. Follow-up to #4633 and #4639, surfaced by the CodeRabbit review on #4639. ## Test plan Drop the snippet below into the empty example and hold each box. - 400 ms: onPressIn, onPressOut, onPress on both boxes, no onLongPress - 700 ms: onPressIn, onLongPress, onPressOut, no onPress on both boxes - 400 ms again after the long press: onPress is back Before this change the lower box logged onLongPress after the lift and no onPress for the 400 ms hold, on iOS and Android. Also rerun the #4630 regression matrix (disable under the finger, pressDelay, RN and RNGH ScrollView drag, parent pan, requireToFail double tap, modal, unmount, nested Pressable, hitSlop), each row followed by a plain tap: every row identical to #4639 on both platforms. <details> <summary>Repro</summary> ```tsx import React, { useRef, useState } from 'react'; import { StyleSheet, Text, View } from 'react-native'; import { GestureDetector, GestureHandlerRootView, Pressable, useTapGesture, } from 'react-native-gesture-handler'; export default function Repro() { const [lines, setLines] = useState<string[]>([]); const pressInTime = useRef(0); const log = (line: string) => { const stamped = `${line} +${Date.now() - pressInTime.current}ms`; setLines((current) => [...current.slice(-7), stamped]); }; const logPressIn = (name: string) => () => { pressInTime.current = Date.now(); log(`${name}: onPressIn`); }; const doubleTap = useTapGesture({ numberOfTaps: 2, runOnJS: true }); return ( <GestureHandlerRootView style={styles.container}> <Pressable onPressIn={logPressIn('plain')} onLongPress={() => log('plain: onLongPress')} onPressOut={() => log('plain: onPressOut')} onPress={() => log('plain: onPress')}> <View style={styles.box}> <Text>Plain Pressable</Text> </View> </Pressable> <GestureDetector gesture={doubleTap}> <View> <Pressable requireToFail={doubleTap} onPressIn={logPressIn('requireToFail')} onLongPress={() => log('requireToFail: onLongPress')} onPressOut={() => log('requireToFail: onPressOut')} onPress={() => log('requireToFail: onPress')}> <View style={styles.box}> <Text>Pressable with requireToFail</Text> </View> </Pressable> </View> </GestureDetector> <Text style={styles.log}>{lines.join('\n')}</Text> </GestureHandlerRootView> ); } const styles = StyleSheet.create({ container: { flex: 1, alignItems: 'center', paddingTop: 40, gap: 24 }, box: { width: 300, height: 80, backgroundColor: '#b58df1', alignItems: 'center', justifyContent: 'center', }, log: { width: 300, fontSize: 14 }, }); ```
Description
On iOS, a
Pressablewith a relation prop (simultaneousWith, requireToFailorblock) rendersStatefulPressable, which calledonPressInand neveronPressOutwhen it was disabled while a finger held it. Since #4501 the button cancels the press at that moment, soonPressOutis expected withoutonPress, which is what the defaultPressableandLegacyPressabledo. The native gesture's
onFinalizearrives before the long press'sonTouchesCancel, which is the path that delivers the press-out.onFinalizeranhandleFinalize, clearingisCurrentlyPressed, so the laterhandlePressOutreturned early. The same ordering appears when the native gesture fails because arequireToFaildouble tap wins; there the long press ends with a touch up instead of a cancel, so no press-out ever came and the long-press timer stayed armed.StatefulPressablenow delivers the press-out itself when the native gesture is cancelled on iOS while the press is still held, using the touch recorded at press-in. A later touch cancel from the long press finds the press already ended and bails. Every other path is unchanged.Fixes #4630.
