Malformed firmware archives could throw before the upload error listener was attached, leaving the app stuck running. Catch preparation failures, mark failure/abort complete even with no history, prevent late preparation callbacks from restarting an aborted update, and always remove unpacking temporary files.
Validated with nine focused regression tests, the full library suite, and the connected Pixel: the previously failing manifest now ends immediately with an error, Back works on the first attempt, and neither ear reboots or receives an upload.
