Summary
Adds a sourced, AI-assisted research draft connecting the history of armed liberty and coercive institutions to care, autonomy, political organization, and distributed intelligence. It distinguishes documented events from disputed adoption arguments, proposes the Extended Hand Principle, and separates six unexecuted comparisons and two original meme studies from evidence.
Why this belongs here
The canonical home is
research/coercion-care-and-extended-hand/. This bounded inquiry links to existing AI Commons, agency-under-stress, Human(e) Design, historical-contingency, and Coherent Systems work without replacing those treatments. The Wiki remains a routing layer; project-specific simulation work retains its own home.Canonical placement and boundaries
Verification
Local reader-document check passed for 253 Markdown files; Idea Trail graph/index check passed without graph changes; all 11 existing site tests passed with site sources unchanged. Both SVGs were rendered and visually inspected, all synthesis footnotes resolve, and the full diff passes whitespace checks. Uploaded blobs and the complete candidate tree match the local checked content.
These checks do not establish historical consensus, scholarly review, empirical validation, or scenario execution.
Documentation coherence
Updated the nearest research index and the existing AI Commons companion. Existing PRs #45 and #50 also touch the research index and require normal reconciliation before any merge; their substance is not incorporated. The existing stewardship draft is linked at its inspected revision.
Open questions
Author and historical-specialist review remain pending, including rival adoption explanations, regional policing lineages, Black testimony, Indigenous framing, and source coverage. Proposed measures and assumptions need methods review before execution. No simulation has run.
