Keep processor contexts alive until their chainstates are destroyed.
Chainstate stores m_special_tx as a reference. The reset at lines 102–103 destroys the object referenced by c1. ActivateExistingSnapshot then copies that dangling reference into c2. The MakeDashChainContexts call at line 119 repeats the invalidation before c2.ActivateBestChain.
Reset the chainstates before resetting their processor contexts.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The refactor has two confirmed blocking issues: a funded-trigger lookup can abort debug/fuzz nodes during legitimate governance updates, and the snapshot test destroys the special-transaction processor while chainstates still reference it. The parent-list-based governance evaluation also needs targeted block-validation regression coverage. Verification was static at the exact requested head; no builds or tests were run, and the supplied CI snapshot still had source builds and lint pending.

In `src/governance/superblock.cpp`:
- [BLOCKING] src/governance/superblock.cpp:517-520: Handle a funded trigger losing its positive vote count normally
Holding cs_sb does not make this condition invariant: it protects the trigger map, not the governance object's votes. CGovernanceObject::ProcessVote updates those votes under the object's own mutex, and its RPC path does not hold cs_main or cs_sb. A valid funding-vote update can therefore occur after IsSuperblockTriggeredInternal observes cached funding but before GetBestSuperblockInternal counts votes, leaving no positive absolute yes count. On networks with nGovernanceMinQuorum = 1, changing the sole yes vote is sufficient. There is also a non-concurrent path: UpdateSentinelVariables returns without clearing cached funding when the supplied list has zero valid voting weight, while an empty list makes the subsequent vote count zero. The new Assume aborts debug/fuzz builds in these legitimate runtime states; the previous lookup handled failure without aborting. Remove the assumption and retain the ordinary return path. Holding cs_sb alone must not be treated as providing an atomic vote snapshot.
In `src/test/validation_chainstatemanager_tests.cpp`:
- [BLOCKING] src/test/validation_chainstatemanager_tests.cpp:102-103: Keep the shared processor alive across snapshot activation
Chainstate now stores CSpecialTxProcessor& directly, rather than referencing NodeContext's replaceable unique_ptr. This reset destroys the processor referenced by c1, and ActivateExistingSnapshot subsequently passes that dangling reference into c2 at validation.cpp:7048. MakeDashChainContexts at line 119 allocates another processor but does not explicitly rebind either chainstate's reference, so their validity depends on incidental address reuse. The current test stays at genesis, and c2.ActivateBestChain can return without connecting a block; its passing result therefore does not demonstrate a valid processor lifetime. Any subsequent block connection using a stale reference would access freed storage. Remove the mid-test reset and reconstruction so both chainstates share the original processor, and destroy the chainstates before resetting their processor/LLMQ contexts at teardown.
In `src/validation.cpp`:
- [SUGGESTION] src/validation.cpp:3056-3059: Cover parent-list trigger evaluation during multi-block activation
Using mnlist_updates.old_list changes validation behavior when the block's parent list differs from the deterministic MN manager's previous tip. CountMatchingVotes filters voters through the supplied list, and UpdateSentinelVariables derives the funding threshold from its valid voting weight, so a registration or collateral removal can change whether the coinbase is accepted. This is an explicitly claimed behavior change in the PR, but the modified payment tests cover output multiplicity and the historical-budget sync gate, not this scenario. Add a functional regression that activates multiple blocks with differing voter lists, keeps superblock enforcement enabled and the tested block unchainlocked, and checks actual acceptance/rejection. Include coinbase alternatives whose outcomes distinguish parent-list evaluation from the old tip-list evaluation.

Not adding a test for this. The parent list is now the only list the coinbase checks can see (ConnectBlock passes mnlist_updates.old_list; Chainstate has no access to the MN manager's tip), so the behaviour is fixed by structure rather than by a conditional that could regress. The difference from the old code only showed during a multi-block activation step, where the manager's tip lagged by up to 32 blocks; that is described under "Other notable points".
There was a problem hiding this comment.
I verified that old_list comes from pindex->pprev, including under fJustCheck, and is forwarded unchanged through the callback to both funding evaluation and trigger selection, so I accept your decision not to add the multi-block regression here and won't hold up this PR over that coverage suggestion.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The dependency-removal refactor is largely coherent, but the unconditional change to the governance voting context can make old and new nodes disagree on superblock acceptance during a synced reorg. The two previously reported blocking defects are fixed; regression coverage and inaccurate commit narratives remain outstanding. This was a static review only: the supplied CI snapshot still had dependency builds and lint running, with the multiprocess cache check queued, and did not establish completed project build/test results.

Passing mnlist_updates.old_list changes block acceptance, not just dependency ownership. UpdateSentinelVariables recomputes funding using max(nGovernanceMinQuorum, valid_weighted_count / 10). For example, 20 net funding votes from voters present in both lists are insufficient with an old-tip weighted count of 210 but sufficient with a replacement parent count of 200. An otherwise-valid regular-reward coinbase omitting the trigger's payments is therefore accepted by the previous implementation but rejected here through IsSuperblockValid. This remains reachable when governance is loaded, the node is synced, and the candidate height is above the best ChainLock: CMasternodeSync::UpdatedBlockTip returns immediately once synced. Parent-based evaluation removes an existing context dependence, but introducing it unconditionally creates mixed-version validation divergence and contradicts the stated consensus-preserving scope. Preserve legacy list selection in the node-side governance callback for this refactor, or introduce the behavioral change through an explicitly agreed activation mechanism. Document that behavior and compatibility rationale in its introducing commit rather than describing it solely as payee-math extraction.

(existing thread: https://github.com/dashpay/dash/pull/7805#discussion_r4196489211)
The current tests do not exercise superblock acceptance when the supplied parent list differs from the deterministic masternode manager's last-notified tip. The changed payment tests adapt duplicate-output and historical-budget cases; no functional test was added for this voting-context change. Add an outcome-based regression with governance loaded, the validating node synced, and no covering ChainLock. Activate a replacement branch whose preceding blocks change nonvoting membership or voting weight across a funding threshold, then assert acceptance of the expected superblock and rejection of an incorrect payment schedule. Compare batch and sequential activation according to the chosen compatibility or activation policy, and include an unfunded case so the test cannot pass merely because enforcement was skipped.

On develop the list used to judge a block depends on timing, not on the block. The manager's tip only moves in SynchronousUpdatedBlockTip after an activation step, so the same block
is judged against its parent's list when it arrives on its own, but against the list of some earlier tip (on a reorg, of the branch being abandoned) when it connects as part of a
batch. The same node can therefore accept or reject the same block depending on how it happened to receive it. With the parent list, the input is fixed by the block's own ancestry:
every evaluation of a given block uses the same list, and it is the list the miner built against.
The case you describe is exactly the timing-dependent one: several blocks connected in one activation step, above the best ChainLock, with a trigger sitting at the threshold and a
masternode list change between the stale tip and the parent. Superblock enforcement was never a deterministic consensus rule anyway. It already depends on local governance data, sync
state and ChainLock height, which is why a failure is BLOCK_RESULT_UNSET ("Do not punish, the node might be missing governance data") and why chainlocked heights skip the check.
Making one of those inputs a function of the block rather than of validation timing doesn't call for preserving the old selection or adding an activation.
commit message is updated accordingly
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Withdrawn (re-reviewed at 25b870b3): Your timing explanation checks out: synchronous tip notification occurs before cs_main is released, and the legacy miner holds that same lock, so normal mining already uses the candidate parent's list while batched validation can use a stale one. I withdraw the requirement to preserve that timing-dependent selection or add an activation; BLOCK_RESULT_UNSET still rejects rather than retries, but that is not the basis for this withdrawal.

Removed unused parameter cs_main and related code with cs_main
…ainstate It helps to remove multiple members of node::ChainstateLoadOptions: - const CMasternodeSync* mn_sync - int8_t bls_threads - int16_t worker_count - int64_t max_recsigs_age Helpers DashChainstateSetup and DashChainstateSetupClose are replaced by MakeDashChainContexts to reduce code duplication Reference to unique_ptr for llmq_ctx is also disappeared
…ntext The superblock manager is node-level governance state that outlives every chainstate reload: govman, the masternode RPCs, the node interface and the active-masternode context all r each it, and none of them cares about the chainstate helper that happened to own it. Superblock manager's ownership is moved to the NodeContext and constructed with the other node-level managers before the chainstate loading loop
CMasternodeSync is not need to be recreated on every reindex because there is nothing synced when a retry happens Its inputs (connman, netfulfilledman) already exist before the loop.
CSuperblock::IsValidBlockHeight and GetPaymentsLimit are consensus-parameter math that block validation will need without going through governance. Give them homes that depend on nothing but the parameters: IsSuperblockHeight in masternode/payments and GetSuperblockPaymentsLimit next to the subsidy math it is derived from. CSuperblock keeps its statics as forwarders.
CSuperblock::IsValid read the expected payments out of the trigger object itself, so checking a coinbase required the governance object. The rule only needs the expected outputs and the payments limit: make it a static check over a std::vector<CTxOut>, with the limit passed in, and have SuperblockManager::IsValidSuperblock hand it the winning trigger's outputs.
…payments Move-only: CSuperblock::IsValid becomes IsSuperblockValid in masternode/payments, where the other coinbase payment rules live and where block validation can call it without a governance dependency. The body is unchanged (compare with git --color-moved=dimmed-zebra).
…snapshot Validation, the miner and the payments RPC each asked SuperblockManager three separate questions under separate lock acquisitions: is governance loaded, is a superblock triggered at this height, and what are its outputs (or, for validation, is this coinbase valid against them). Replace the trio with GetStatus(mn_list, height), which answers all of them in one lock-held snapshot, and let the callers check the coinbase with the pure IsSuperblockValid, which now takes that snapshot so its first argument reads as governance's schedule rather than a second list of outputs. A funded trigger always has a best-voted superblock, so the "triggered but no best superblock" branch becomes an Assume. In IsBlockValueValid the NoCheck return moves above the query, so a node that does not enforce superblocks still never evaluates triggers. Both early returns accept the block; the only difference is that such a node no longer logs "Not enough data". The snapshot is a SuperblockStatus with three states instead of two flags: ValidationDisabled while governance data is not loaded, NotTriggered, and Triggered with the winning trigger's outputs. A manager that is not loaded holds no triggers (network objects are ignored and InitOnLoad has not run), so callers that only look for a trigger -- the miner and the masternode winners RPC -- see the same answer as before. The bound on the coinbase value is not a governance rule, so it leaves the superblock check: IsBlockValueValid itself requires the coinbase to pay no more than the block reward plus the superblock's payments, summed from the snapshot, and IsSuperblockValid loses its blockReward parameter, keeping the superblock height, the number of outputs, the payments limit and the ordered payment match. A block failing the bound is rejected exactly as before, with the same log line and the same "invalid superblock detected" error. IsBlockPayeeValid's superblock re-check no longer repeats the bound, which IsBlockValueValid has already enforced for the same block.
ConnectBlock calls IsBlockValueValid right before IsBlockPayeeValid with the same block, height, reward and enforcement mode. The value rule already rejects the block when a superblock is triggered and its outputs do not match, and accepts it otherwise, so re-running IsSuperblockValid here with identical inputs can never change the outcome. Keep only the masternode payee half, which is the rule this function is named after.
…Manager GetBlockTxOuts looked the list up itself through CDeterministicMNManager, which is the only reason the payee math needed the manager at all. Make it the free function GetMasternodePayments over a caller-supplied list and consensus parameters, so block validation can hand it the list it already has for the parent block and the miner and RPC can call it directly. Superblock trigger evaluation now uses the same caller-supplied list instead of the manager's tip list. The tip list only advances after an activation step, so on develop the list a block was judged against depended on whether it connected alone or in a batch (on a reorg, it could belong to the branch being replaced). The parent's list is fixed by the block's ancestry and matches what the miner builds against.
CMNPaymentsProcessor held a SuperblockManager reference, which is the last reason block validation's payment rules depended on governance. Replace it with a std::function in ChainstateManager::Options, the way ChainstateLoadOptions carries its callbacks: init and the test fixture point it at SuperblockManager::GetPayments, and a kernel-only context (bitcoin-chainstate) leaves it unset, which the checks treat as governance data not being available.
With the payments processor and the superblock manager gone, the helper was a bundle of a special-tx processor, two managers it built for that processor, and one-line forwards to chainlocks and InstantSend -- its only effect was hiding which dependencies block validation actually has.
Give Chainstate those dependencies directly: a reference to the special-tx processor, to the chainlocks and to the optional InstantSend manager, declared in validation.h where adding a new one is visible. CSpecialTxProcessor owns the credit pool and EHF managers, since both are state carried by special transactions, and gains the MN list hash that belongs with its list rebuilding; the EHF signals handler receives the EHF manager it needs instead of digging it out of the chainstate. LoadChainstate takes the special-tx processor in place of the helper and hands the chainstates it creates the chainlocks and the InstantSend manager.
NodeContext's slot becomes special_tx, which is what every remaining external user (RPC, providertx service, init repair, tests) actually reached through the helper; evo/chainhelper.{h,cpp} is deleted. The expected circular-dependency list trades the chainhelper cycle for the now-direct instantsend -> blockstorage -> validation -> instantsend cycle: validation's InstantSend dependency existed before but was laundered through the helper.
Block validation no longer references governance, so the superblock manager and the governance object, vote and vote-database sources it dragged in are dead weight in the kernel library: dash-chainstate links without them.
…ibdashkernel Nothing in the kernel library references the address, spent, coinstats or block-filter indexes, nor the DKG session, session handler and DKG debug code (the DKG session manager only lends its contribution storage to the quorum manager). None of these were needed before the preceding refactoring either; dash-chainstate links without them.
… and drop it from kernel's dependencies Superblock enforcement is gated on the node being synced, and a context without a sync manager has nothing to enforce: it also has no governance data to enforce against. Treat an unset mn_sync as "not synced" instead of asserting on it, so dash-chainstate no longer has to construct a CMasternodeSync it never drives and the kernel library no longer carries masternode/sync.cpp.
The masternode payments RPC used to compute each block's payees through CMNPaymentsProcessor::FillBlockPayments, which logged when no payee could be determined. Since the processor is dissolved, the RPC calls GetMasternodePayments directly and ignores its result. Log the failure again with the same message the previous path used.
CBlockTreeDB and CMNHFManager in validation.h, CConnman and LLMQContext in node/miner.h and CActiveMasternodeManager in node/context.h are declared but not used in those headers. EOF
Moving CSuperblock::IsValid to masternode/payments as IsSuperblockValid, moving the block-value bound into Chainstate::IsBlockValueValid and renaming SuperblockManager::GetSuperblockPayments to GetStatus kept the old hard-coded log prefixes, which now name functions that no longer exist. Use __func__ instead; the message texts are unchanged.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Static verification of the complete PR at 25b870b found no confirmed blocking defect; the reported snapshot-activation lifetime problem and missing-best-superblock failure path are addressed. Two non-blocking suggestions remain: inaccurate descriptions and missing regression coverage for parent-list governance evaluation. No builds or tests were run; the supplied exact-head CI snapshot shows ClangFormat passing but build-container jobs still queued.

(existing thread: https://github.com/dashpay/dash/pull/7805#discussion_r4196489211)
This PR intentionally changes governance evaluation from the manager's potentially stale tip list to the candidate's parent list, but no focused test exercises that change through block validation. governance_superblock_tests constructs SuperblockStatus directly and tests output matching; the old-budget payment test and unchanged governance functional tests do not cover a list change that places stale-tip and parent-list funding thresholds on opposite sides of the same vote count. Add a functional regression with governance loaded, a synced validator, and a candidate above the best ChainLock. Compare actual block acceptance for sequential connection and multi-block reorganization, verify rejection of a coinbase missing funded payments, and include a regular-reward case where the parent list does not fund the trigger. This protects the documented timing-independence improvement rather than merely checking a returned snapshot.
kernel/chainstatemanager_opts.h only names SuperblockStatus as the return type of the superblock_status callback. A std::function member needs the return type complete only where the callback is constructed or invoked, and every such translation unit (init, miner, validation, test setup) already includes masternode/payments.h or governance/superblock.h. Forward-declare the struct instead of pulling a masternode header into every includer of validation.h.
Chainstate::IsBlockValueValid returns before reaching IsSuperblockValid whenever the height is not a superblock height, and SuperblockManager::GetStatus only reports Triggered for heights that pass the same check, so the re-check inside IsSuperblockValid could never fail. It was also the only reader of the global Params() in masternode/payments.cpp, while the caller evaluates the same rule with the chainstate's own consensus parameters. Drop the check and the height argument it existed for.
Chainstate::IsBlockValueValid called GetSuperblockPaymentsLimit twice for the same height: once for the max-value bound and again as the argument of IsSuperblockValid. The second call repeats the subsidy walk and emits a second GOBJECT log line. Keep the first result in a local and pass it on.
Chainstate::IsBlockValueValid summed the superblock payments to compare them against the block value, and IsSuperblockValid summed the same payments again to compare them against the payments limit. Two copies of the same total can drift apart, so give IsSuperblockValid the block reward and let it perform both checks on a single total, as CSuperblock::IsValid did before the split.

Static inspection of the complete 28-commit PR range at 4c57312 found no confirmed blocking defect at the reviewed head. The remaining suggestions concern two newly changed governance behaviors without targeted regression coverage, inaccurate introducing commit messages, and an intermediate API migration that breaks unit-test compilation. No builds or tests were run locally; the supplied head-matching CI snapshot shows successful lint and several platform builds, with three test jobs queued and ASan, TSan, and multiprocess builds still running.

ConnectBlock now supplies mnlist_updates.old_list to governance evaluation; CSpecialTxProcessor obtains that list from the candidate block's parent. This removes the previous activation-timing dependence, but the changed tests do not exercise it: the superblock test constructs a snapshot directly, and the old-budget test never evaluates triggers. The existing governance functional scenarios also do not change the masternode list so that stale-tip and parent-list funding thresholds disagree. Add a functional regression that connects the same superblock individually and through a multi-block activation or reorg after such a list change. Keep governance loaded, enforcement enabled, and the candidate above the best ChainLock; verify acceptance of the correctly paying block and rejection of an omitted-payment counterpart through block acceptance or the resulting chain tip.

Te fallback and the first lookup both yield NotTriggered, so block acceptance is identical to every unfunded superblock height already covered by feature_governance.py. A test for this corner can only observe that outcome; it cannot tell which lookup produced it, and its precondition (a stale funding flag with zero valid masternodes) disappears if the early return in UpdateSentinelVariables is ever removed, leaving the test passing vacuously.
The behaviour change is documented in the PR description already.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
I agree that both paths now use the same NotTriggered reward check; the distinction worth testing is the state that reaches it. gobject("get", trigger_hash) exposes both fCachedFunding and FundingResult.AbsoluteYesCount, so the test can assert that funding is still cached while counted votes are zero immediately before submitting the payout block. That would prevent it from passing vacuously if UpdateSentinelVariables later clears the flag, without needing private-state access or using the cache as the test's final outcome. The documented rationale explains the change, but the existing unfunded-height scenario doesn't exercise that transition.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed that fCachedFunding plus FundingResult.AbsoluteYesCount would make the precondition observable, so the test would not pass vacuously. I'm still leaving it out: the precondition is a chain with zero valid masternodes, so the test would pin block acceptance in a state the network cannot operate in, and its only future is removal once the early return in UpdateSentinelVariables is cleaned up. The reachable behaviour (validation agreeing with the miner and with restarted nodes) is what the description documents.

Understood; I accept leaving this corner-case regression out of this PR as a deliberate maintenance tradeoff, with the acceptance change and its rationale documented.
Noted as intentionally deferred; I will not press it further here.

Test-only, picked as its commit. Without it, #7821's `test_failed_upgrade()` expects RPC error -1 for a 257-byte mnemonic passphrase, which #7842's new precheck rejects with -8 first, so `wallet_upgradetohd.py --legacy-wallet` fails. Here the PR's final commit 45acdf3 is picked once instead of either merge. In `src/node/sync_manager.cpp`, this branch still sent `GETSPORKS` from the mnsync tick on every network, because #7847, which limited it to test chains, is not included. The request is removed entirely, as on develop. Mainnet spork values are hardcoded in `CSporkManager::GetSporkValue`, so the mainnet request had no effect. - **#7857** and **#7909**: develop folded `CChainstateHelper` into `Chainstate` (d5c1bd7), which is not on this branch, so the new code goes through `ChainHelper().special_tx` / `m_chain_helper.special_tx` instead of `m_special_tx`. The neighbouring develop-only `CSpecialTxProcessor::GetDeterministicMNListHash` is left out. #7888 tightens consensus rules for ExtAddr provider transactions behind V24, so I checked it against testnet. V24 is not active there yet (the tip's CbTx is still version 3), so the chain has no ExtAddr ProTxs the new rules could reject. rc.3's own serializer always writes canonical, sorted purposes, so every ProTx it builds passes the new rules. Mixed rc.3/rc.4 networks could only split on a hand-crafted non-canonical ExtAddr ProTx mined after V24 activates. So testnet miners and masternodes should move to rc.4 before V24 is signalled. Unlabeled develop fixes since rc.3 that were audited and left out: - Worth considering before the final release: #7869 (startup block replay after an unclean shutdown asserts on a quorum commitment, so recovery needs `-reindex-chainstate`; not a v24 regression), #7833 (gate signing intake before quorum retrieval, DoS hardening), #7682 (intermittent `relic_conf.h` parallel-build failure). - Left for 24.1: #7812, #7826, #7844, #7847, #7850, #7868, plus the routine upstream backports (#7780, #7806, #7830, #7855, #7856, #7862, #7863, #7865, #7883, #7884, #7898, #7906), refactors (#7805, #7878, #7880), and CI, docs and test-only changes. One CI-only commit comes last. It takes only the `ci/test` hunks of 6f71fa5 (#7901), which make `ci/test/00_setup_env_native_{multiprocess,tsan}.sh` honor `DEPENDS_ARCH`. Pull requests into `v24.0.x` run develop's workflow files (`pull_request_target`), and since #7901 those check the depends cache on x86_64 runners and pass the aarch64 build arch in `DEPENDS_ARCH`. Without the hunks, `linux64_multiprocess / Build depends` fails on any depends cache miss (`Build runner computes HOST=aarch64-linux-gnu but check-cache used x86_64-pc-linux-gnu`). Without `DEPENDS_ARCH` the scripts still use `uname -m`, so this branch's own push CI is unchanged. No version change is needed. `configure.ac` is already 24.0.0 with `CLIENT_VERSION_IS_RELEASE` false, so the build takes its version string from the `v24.0.0-rc.4` tag. ## How Has This Been Tested? Built and tested at 6c02b2b on macOS arm64 against depends, with `--enable-debug --enable-werror --disable-hardening`. - `make check`: all unit test suites pass, including `test_dash-qt`. - Functional tests, all passing: `feature_evo_shares_activation.py`, `feature_governance_objects.py`, `feature_llmq_signing.py` (plain and `--spork21`), `feature_masternode_shares.py`, `feature_sporks.py`, `interface_rest.py`, `p2p_instantsend.py`, `p2p_quorum_data.py`, `rpc_masternode.py`, `rpc_psbt.py`, `rpc_quorum.py`, `wallet_backup.py`, `wallet_dump.py`, `wallet_encryption.py`, `wallet_labels.py` and `wallet_upgradetohd.py`, each with `--descriptors` and `--legacy-wallet` where it supports them. - Each pick's changed lines were compared with its develop merge (or, for #7893, its PR commit). They are identical except for the #7893, #7857 and #7909 adaptations above, and the #7888 test adaptation below. - A local macOS arm64 debug build (`--enable-debug --enable-werror`) compiled most of the tree and stopped on a single error in `src/test/evo_netinfo_tests.cpp`. #7888's new test used `CNetAddr::V2()`, the serialization-parameter API from bitcoin#25284, which this branch lacks. The pick now writes that entry through an `OverrideStream` with `ADDRV2_FORMAT`, the way `NetInfoEntry::Serialize` does on this branch (see its commit message). - #7782's new unit test reloads the wallet with develop's three-argument `CWallet` constructor. On this branch the constructor still takes the CoinJoin loader and an `ArgsManager`, so the test passes them the way its fixture already does (see the commit message). - With both test fixes, a full local `make` (`dashd`, `dash-qt`, `test_dash`, `test_dash-qt`) completes with no errors. - `feature_pruning.py` is an extended test that CI does not run. #7894 is included because #7792 makes its restart path fail. ## Breaking Changes Carried over from the picked PRs: - #7876: rc.1 to rc.3 nodes that connected an affected block stored a wrong masternode list diff for it. Those nodes need `-reindex`; `-reindex-chainstate` is not enough for nodes that already marked the following block invalid. - #7888: stricter ExtAddr `netInfo` decoding and validation behind V24 (see above). The RFC1918 check now applies even with `-allowprivatenet`. - #7858: provider transactions no longer get InstantSend locks. Software that waits for an islock on a ProTx should wait for a ChainLock or confirmations instead. - #7857: a `ProUpServTx` spending an output of a pending operator key change, asset lock, asset unlock or MNHF signal is rejected from the mempool until that transaction confirms. - #7831: governance object signatures over 96 bytes are rejected, and the governance cache is discarded and re-synced on first start (`doc/release-notes-7831.md`). - #7871: address purposes are limited to `send`, `receive` and `refund`. Wallets with other purpose strings load with warnings, and `listlabels` errors on an unknown purpose (`doc/release-notes-27217.md`). - #7842: creating an HD wallet with a mnemonic passphrase over 248 bytes fails unless `-allow-deprecated-long-mnemonics` is set, and over 256 bytes always fails (`doc/release-notes-7842.md`). - #7792: a node whose evodb is missing a masternode list snapshot now stops at startup and asks for `-reindex`, and `evodb repair` reports it in `repairErrors`. - #7867: `protx info <proTxHash> <blockHash>`, `protx listdiff` and `masternode payments <blockHash>` return an error for blocks outside the active chain. - #7881: `protx shared_combine` on a `ProUpSharedRegTx` is refused unless its inputs are unlocked coins of a single address of the calling wallet, change returns to that address, and the fee is within `-maxtxfee`. - #7836: PSBTs referencing nonexistent previous outputs fail to deserialize (RPC error -22). - #7834: negative Electrum-import rescan indices are rejected. - #7893: on this branch, mainnet nodes no longer send `GETSPORKS` during mnsync (no effect, mainnet spork values are hardcoded). ## Checklist: - [x] I have performed a self-review of my own code - [ ] I have made corresponding changes to the documentation - [ ] I have assigned this pull request to a milestone 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Top commit has no ACKs. Issue being fixed or feature implemented
Block validation depended on governance and on a grab-bag helper.
CChainstateHelperbundled the special-tx processor, the credit-pool and EHF managers, the masternode payments processor and the superblock manager, plus one-line forwards to chainlocks and InstantSend. BecauseCMNPaymentsProcessoraskedSuperblockManagerandCSuperblockdirectly whether a coinbase was valid, validation.cpptransitively pulled in governance objects, votes and their storage. As a resultlibdashkernelanddash-chainstatehad to compile and link the whole governance subsystem, the masternode sync manager and several unrelated sources just to validate blocks. The only thing governance actually contributes to block validation is one datum: whether a funded superblock trigger exists at a height and which outputs it expects. Everything else (superblock heights, payment limits, value bounds, ordered output matching, masternode payee derivation) is consensus-parameter math.
What was done?
Main point: dependencies removed from libdashkernel / dash-chainstate. Validation now asks governance a single question through
ChainstateManager::Options::superblock_status(unset in a kernel-only context, which disables superblock validation) and an optionalconst CMasternodeSync*gate. With that, the kernel no longer needs:governance/common.cpp,governance/object.cpp,governance/superblock.cpp,governance/vote.cpp,governance/votedb.cppmasternode/sync.cpp(dash-chainstateno longer constructs a sync manager)index/addressindex.cpp,index/blockfilterindex.cpp,index/coinstatsindex.cpp,index/spentindex.cpp,llmq/debug.cpp,llmq/dkgsession.cpp,llmq/dkgsessionhandler.cpp(not referenced by anything the kernel links)evo/chainhelper.cpp(deleted)dash-chainstatealso no longer constructs an InstantSend manager:Chainstatetakes it as an optional pointer. How it is structured:
masternode/paymentskeeps only pure rules:GetMasternodePaymentsover an explicit masternode list,IsSuperblockHeight, andIsSuperblockValidover governance's expected outputs. It knows nothing about governance objects.SuperblockManager::GetStatus(mn_list, height)returns aSuperblockStatussnapshot (ValidationDisabled/NotTriggered/Triggered+ payments) in one lock-held call, replacing three separate queries.IsBlockValueValid,IsBlockPayeeValid) areChainstatemembers and derive their context (enforcement gate, V24 flag, reward era) from the block index;SuperBlockCheckTypeis gone.CMNPaymentsProcessoris dissolved: the miner assembles its coinbase inBlockAssembler::FillBlockPayments, themasternode paymentsRPC callsGetMasternodePaymentsdirectly.CChainstateHelperis dissolved:ChainstateholdsCSpecialTxProcessor&,const chainlock::Chainlocks&and an optionalllmq::CInstantSendManager*;CSpecialTxProcessorowns the credit-pool and EHF managers;NodeContexthasspecial_txandsbmanslots instead ofchain_helper.LLMQContextand the special-tx processor are built by the caller (init, test fixture,dash-chainstate) instead of insideLoadChainstate, which now takes the special-tx processor in place ofllmq_ctx+chain_helper.ChainstateLoadOptionskeepsismanandchainlocksand dropsmn_syncand the LLMQ tuning options.Extra advantages:
libdashkernel/dash-chainstate.evo/chainhelper.{h,cpp}is deleted; validation's real dependencies are declared invalidation.h.evo/chainhelper -> evo/creditpool -> validation -> evo/chainhelper,governance/superblock -> validation -> masternode/payments -> governance/superblock).instantsend/instantsend -> node/blockstorage -> validation -> instantsend/instantsendis added: that dependency existed before but was hidden behind the helper.Other notable points:
IsBlockPayeeValidis removed: it re-ran the checkIsBlockValueValidhad already decided with identical inputs. How Has This Been Tested?
