fix(core): docusaurus serve no longer adds a trailing slash to some assets under a baseUrl (AI-assisted) - #12877
With a baseUrl and trailingSlash: true, docusaurus serve redirects some asset URLs to the same URL with a trailing slash, which then 404s (Windows serves it). The looksLikeAsset regex that prevents this missed:
URLs with a query string: /base/assets/css/styles.css?v=1
Extensions longer than 4 characters: /base/assets/fonts/font.woff2, /base/site.webmanifest
The fix checks the extension of the pathname parsed by parseURLPath(), which ignores the query string and the hash, and accepts extensions of any length. The trailing slash redirect also uses this parsed pathname, like the clean URL redirect of #12879. In the hand-typed URL snapshots, /base/assets/css/styles.css#hash is served directly, and /base/file#hash.html now gets our trailing slash redirect instead of the serve-handler one, which drops the baseUrl.
Pages can look like assets too, as #12892 captures:
/base/folder?v=1.0 no longer looks like an asset because of its query string. It gets our trailing slash redirect instead of the serve-handler one, which drops the baseUrl.
Folders with a dot in their name like docs/2.x already looked like assets. docs/lodash.debounce now looks like one too, so it no longer gets a trailing slash redirect, but it 404s either way because of another known bug: serve-handler doesn't serve the index.html of folders with a dot in their name. Without a baseUrl, serve-handler already skips the trailing slash redirect for any extension.
The tests of #12858 capture both platforms, so the diff shows the fix on each: the trailingSlash true snapshots of Windows and other platforms are now identical. A follow-up PR will merge them. The "edge cases" tests of this bug are removed, the snapshots cover the fixed behavior.
Test Plan
pnpm test packages/docusaurus/src/commands/serve, the Windows CI checks the Windows snapshot.
Asset URLs containing query strings or extensions longer than four alphanumeric characters are served directly, without an unintended trailing slash.
Query strings no longer interfere with identifying asset URLs, improving redirect behavior for requests that include them.
Clean URL redirects for .html files preserve the base URL and query string. For example, /base/file.html?query=1 redirects to /base/file?query=1, then to /base/file/?query=1.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The serve request handler now checks asset extensions against the URL pathname, excluding query strings, and accepts alphanumeric extensions of any positive length. Tests expect direct responses for queried CSS, font, and web manifest assets.

Asset detection and regression coverage packages/docusaurus/src/commands/serve/requestHandler.ts, packages/docusaurus/src/commands/serve/__tests__/requestHandler.test.ts
Asset detection ignores query-string text and accepts extensions of any positive alphanumeric length. Tests expect direct responses for queried CSS, font, and web manifest assets. Platform-specific asset redirect tests and the unused ServeOptions import were removed.

With a baseUrl, serve-handler redirected /base/file.html to /file, dropping
the baseUrl (and query string): the request then landed on the homepage.

Run the clean URL redirect before the trailing slash one, like serve-handler,
so /base/index.html ends on /base/ instead of /base/index/ with trailingSlash
true. Build the redirect location without String.replace(), which interprets
$& and similar patterns and caused an infinite redirect loop.

Use parseURLPath() instead of splitting the URL on "?": a #hash sent by a
hand-crafted request no longer skips our redirect, and serve-handler no longer
redirects it outside of the baseUrl.

Without a baseUrl, serve-handler handles these requests: it rejects paths
outside of the build folder and merges slashes in its redirects. Cover it, in
case a serve-handler upgrade or our own redirects change this.

Paths whose ".." segments resolve outside of the baseUrl now get the
serve-handler 400 Bad Request, like paths outside of the build folder without
a baseUrl, instead of a redirect to the baseUrl. The open redirect tests use
the same paths with and without a baseUrl.
