feat(ts): translate a crate's own double-ended, exact-size, and fused iterators - #436
rust2-ts refused any crate iterator that implemented DoubleEndedIterator, ExactSizeIterator, or FusedIterator, or that overrode size_hint. That covers hashlink's, rangemap's, slab's, and smallvec's iterators: 39 of the 232 refusals in the census of ts/moq/model.toml.
Approach
rt.iterFrom now also takes the crate's own size_hint, next_back, and len. Its FromNext calls them wherever std's adaptors and consumers call them (rev, nth_back, rposition, a collect's reserve, and so on). Without an override of its own, len is std's default: the size hint's bounds, with std's assert_eq! panic when they disagree.
next_back on a crate iterator through &mut calls its own next_back. nth_back wraps the iterator first, as the other provided methods already did.
fuse and flatten pass fused for any type holding a crate iterator that is a FusedIterator. Like std, they then read on past its first None. std's own fused iterators keep the shorter output.
check_impl now refuses only overrides that std's adaptors would call in place of these four methods, such as Iterator::fold and DoubleEndedIterator::nth_back.
Runtime fixes the new logging test exposed, which also apply to std's iterators:
Skip, Take, StepBy, Zip, and Peekable now take len from their size hint, as std's default len does. Before, they called the inner len.
Skip, Take, Enumerate, and StepBy, folded from the back (rfind and the rest), read the length once when the fold starts, as each std try_rfold does, instead of once per item. They no longer return themselves as the fold when their inner iterator does, because their next_back reads the length per item where std's try_rfold doesn't. Against the old runtime, the new rfind cases fail 172 of 28,672 inputs.
Tests:
lang's new ends::ends uses a crate iterator that logs every next, next_back, size_hint, and len call, with exact, loose, and lying hints. It drives that iterator, and a wrapper with its own len, through 16 std adaptors and consumers. It also covers next/next_back mixed until they meet, and fuse of a FusedIterator that yields again after None. caller.ts names 28,672 inputs for it.
stock's new maps::linked_iters runs every hashlink iterator (iter, iter_mut, keys, values, values_mut, into_iter, drain) through next, next_back, nth, nth_back, size_hint and len after partial reads, rev, skip, rposition, and collect's capacity. caller.ts names 4,608 inputs.
crates: the dependency's Countdown is now always double-ended, and the harness reads it in reverse and from both ends. The rev refusal case and feature are gone.
reject: Hinted and Fused are gone. Backs now overrides nth_back, which is still refused.

All 39 of the quest's refusals are gone. Two refusals show up that the old one hid: smallvec's Drain::next_back (smallvec-1.16.3/src/lib.rs:397:49) now translates and hits the same ptr::read of a reference as its next at 383:49, which was already refused. The construct is unsafe code the translator can model's, and the epic has moq dropping or binding smallvec.
Impact
Public API: the translator's output only. A crate's own double-ended, exact-size, and fused iterators, and its own size_hint, now translate instead of being refused. rt.iterFrom takes three more optional parameters. No breaking change.
Make next_back follow next's protocol, returning rt.DONE from the function itself. That needs the same MIR special-casing that next has. Wrapping it in rt.iterFromOption inside the closure rt.iterFrom gets is less code.
Mark only crate iterators that drop as fused, as std's were. That gets a FusedIterator that yields again after None wrong.
Follow-ups
Folds from the back, and a crate's own folds (quest/m3/ts-iter-back-folds.md, added here): DoubleEndedIterator::rfold and try_rfold have no mapping for any iterator, std's included (the new test reaches rfold only through rev().last()). The same quest covers a crate's own fold and nth_back overrides, which are still refused.
Review
mechanical fix by codex / Codex: Merged base and regenerated three conflicting fixture outputs, preserving both sides; passed with pinned nightly: cargo test --locked --manifest-path ts/Cargo.toml -p rust2-ts (7 unit, 12 fixture, 10 runtime tests), cargo clippy --locked --manifest-path ts/Cargo.toml -p rust2-ts --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo fmt --manifest-path ts/Cargo.toml --all --check, and tsc -p ts/runtime. Walkthrough
The translator now adapts selected crate-defined iterator methods, and the runtime uses those callbacks for size hints, backward iteration, and exact length. Runtime adaptor length and back-fold behavior also changed. New fixtures cover iterator operations in language-level cases, dependency iterators, and linked hash maps.

Add an early-drop case for the stock hashlink owning iterators.
In ends, the final for item in it.rev() loop consumes every remaining entry. The owning cases pass through this helper: 4 => ends(m.into_iter(), ...) and 5 => { ends(m.drain(), ...); ... }. Both iterators are exhausted before they are dropped. The generated drop for IntoIter walks only self.remaining nodes, so with an exhausted iterator it runs zero iterations. No case drops either iterator with entries remaining.
Add a case that stops early, drops the owning IntoIter or Drain, and then regenerate expected/maps.ts. The stock entries are (u16, u32), which have no observable destructor, so this output cannot show a missed cleanup. Use entries whose destructor records an observable effect for this check.
Coverage evidence
ts/fixtures/stock/src/maps.rs:391-402: ends ends with for item in it.rev() { put(out, f(item)); }.
ts/fixtures/stock/src/maps.rs:433-435: the only owning-iterator arms both call ends.
ts/fixtures/stock/expected/maps.ts:726-734: the consumer loop runs until DONE, then calls rt.drop(iter2) with lib_drop$hashlink_linked_hash_map_IntoIter_u16_u32.

Review comment at @ts/fixtures/stock/expected/maps.ts around lines 726 - 734:
Add a stock fixture case that stops consuming an owning hashlink IntoIter or
Drain before exhaustion, then drops it and verifies cleanup through entries with
an observable destructor effect. Update the fixture setup around ends and the
owning-iterator cases so this behavior is covered, then regenerate the expected
maps output.

Conflicts with the base: ts/fixtures/lang/expected/harness.ts, ts/fixtures/reject/census.md, ts/fixtures/reject/expected.txt
A local merge reproduced these conflicts, and regenerating the three files resolved them mechanically. Validation with the pinned nightly, UPDATE_EXPECT=1 cargo test --locked --manifest-path ts/Cargo.toml --test fixtures, then failed:
The other 11 fixture tests passed. tsc -p ts/runtime and cargo fmt --manifest-path ts/Cargo.toml --all --check also passed.
The failing input is a6c09700bfff8568ff4f2c3440ff6311ffa818ff9f1fbf2ff710668f43bcffbade79a200e7ff0aff. A direct replay against the generated harness and native WASM reproduces the difference in floats::mul_adds, kind 151: byte offset 207 is 0xaa natively and 0xab in TypeScript. This needs numerical-behavior investigation or a test-expectation decision beyond mechanical conflict resolution.
The merge was aborted and pr-436 remains at its pinned head, 4306bfb. Blame here identifies the original merge conflict; it does not attribute the numerical mismatch to this PR.
codex / Codex land fixer: UPDATE_EXPECT=1 cargo test --locked --manifest-path ts/Cargo.toml --test fixtures failed: "lang-fixture differs from native Rust:" and "738231 cases, 100713 panics, 125 aborts, 1 differences"; floats:. Recommendation: Investigate the floats::mul_adds numerical mismatch, then merge base and regenerate the three conflicting fixture files; a behavior fi·x or test-expectation decision requires maintainer review.
Conflicts with the base: ts/fixtures/lang/expected/harness.ts, ts/fixtures/reject/census.md, ts/fixtures/reject/expected.txt
Keep buf::writes' overflow write away from zero capacity, where a put of a
Bytes takes its storage and rt.BytesMut refuses to reserve past its limit: a
fifteenth stock case moved a generated input onto that path.

buf::writes' overflow write after a zero-capacityputof aBytes: storagert.BytesMutrefuses to reserve past its limit, ascaller.tsalready notes. The overflow write now runs only from a nonzero starting capacity, which still reaches it at every capacity from 1 to 23.With feat(ts): translate VecDeque::range, str::rsplit_once, and split_terminator #434 landed, this PR finishes
