… and count inflation - TRACK_INFO carries a Compression codec varint (0 none, 1 DEFLATE, else a protocol violation) instead of a boolean, in Rust, js/net, and the drafts. - Plain readers take the slices they need under the group's guard and inflate under the shared copy's own lock; a reader that took the same slices skips what another inflated, and a release fails a late inflater instead of billing past it. - The inflated copy counts toward the group's eviction size once built, and a new `inflated` traffic counter reports it once per group. - doc/lib pages mention `compress`. Maintainer decisions on the open list, now implemented on this branch (except 1):
Field order and (Written by Claude Opus 5.5) |
Resolve against main's head hand-off (#5958) and key-logging (#5907): - MIGRATE: keep both Unreleased entries. - resume: the replacement lends the failed copy's head before the compressed-group prefix check. - cache: main's held-head Bill keeps its name; the inflated copy's growable bill becomes cache::Extra. - group: a held Head carries a compressed group's inflated sizes, and a compressed group adopts only a compressed head, with its sizes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
MIGRATE (moq-ffi): keep both Unreleased entries, the PR's compress field and main's MoqCongestionControl::None (#5926). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Main's held-copy fallback (#5836) positioned the group at the reader's frame alone; route it through the same check as the serving copy, so a reader that inflates a compressed group takes the prefix it needs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps both track::Info::compress and main's refresh (which replaced dynamic_groups) across moq-net, moq-ffi, moq-c, Go, Python, and MIGRATE. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
GroupServe keeps the compressed read for lite-07; main dropped the pending open counter beside it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps Compress on the Go TrackInfo under main's bridge.OptionalDuration, and the lite TRACK_INFO compression codec beside main's hasTrackStream guard. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps both MIGRATE entries beside main's per-subscriber ranges (#5929). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps both lite-07 changelog bullets: TRACK_INFO Compression and main's SYNCED announce event. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps both MIGRATE entries beside main's JSON timestamps (#5677), and sets compress on the MoqTrackInfo its new moq-ffi test builds. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Main's head handoff already lends a failed route's compressed head to the replacement, so drop the fetch-from-frame-0 widening. A plain reader still fails loud when the head was reclaimed instead of spinning on a replacement it cannot inflate. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Port the compression paths onto the single group writer (#6020): the Producer methods reach the state through its Handle, and adopt_head moved to Handle. Also fix the session bench's format string, which main left one placeholder short. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The encoder (about 256 KiB) and each group's shared decoder (about 40 KiB) were unbilled, so a peer opening many compressed groups could make readers hold decoders the pool never saw. Both now count toward the group's eviction size while held, and finishing drops them once nothing needs them. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

When a peer sends a final raw-DEFLATE block, especially as the last frame of a group, Status::StreamEnd exits this loop without rejecting the final block or checking whether all input was consumed; if the produced length matches size, the decoder accepts it, including any ignored suffix. The format explicitly keeps the group stream unterminated and requires a sync flush for every frame, so this malformed input should abandon the group rather than be cached and forwarded; treat StreamEnd as MalformedTrack.

Fixed in 1698dbc: Decoder::frame returns MalformedTrack on Status::StreamEnd, so a final block abandons the group whatever its size. Regression test flate::test::a_final_block_is_malformed. The flate draft now says a consumer MUST treat a final block as malformed.

- A slice ending in a final block is malformed, and the flate draft says so. - The decoder drops after the last frame even when the group finishes after a reader took its slices: the finished count lives in the shared plain copy. - A received compressed datagram counts toward `inflated` only once stored. - A plain read of a logical track whose group failed to inflate returns the error instead of resuming from the same copy forever. - Drafts: flate changelog appendix; lite cross-references the shared inflation instead of restating it. Add a Go migration note for the new struct field
Adding Compress to the exported TrackInfo struct breaks callers that use positional composite literals, but go/wrapper/MIGRATE.md has no ## Unreleased entry explaining the required additional value. Document this breaking wrapper change alongside the existing moq-ffi and C migration notes.

Fixed in 2061397: go/wrapper/MIGRATE.md now has an Unreleased entry for TrackInfo.Compress (a positional literal adds a trailing false; keyed literals are unchanged).

Reconcile compression with the new `ietf` extension (#6058): a datagram's Inflated Size follows its Datagram State and Timestamp, and a status datagram carries none. lite::Format now holds the track's timescale, which the extension's decode needs, beside `compressed`. The lite publisher reads stored datagrams including statuses, metering the form it sends. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Send compressed subscriptions from frame zero
When a Lite07 subscription begins at a nonzero frame, position_group advances the cursor before this converts the consumer to stored DEFLATE slices, so the stream omits the earlier frames that established the compression window. The receiver then creates a group with that nonzero offset, and GroupState::inflate returns Lagged for every plain read because it cannot reconstruct the missing window. Widen compressed subscriptions to frame zero rather than emitting this undecodable partial group.

Declining, no change; this is a settled decision rather than a merge regression. The PR body's Decisions item 6 ("Plain join past frame 0: Lagged") and quest/m1/compress/README.md say a server serves exactly the range asked for. A requester asks from frame N only because it already holds 0..N-1; route-change resume lends the failed route's compressed head to the replacement for this (a_failed_compressed_group_continues_from_the_replacement). Without that head, the plain read fails loud with Lagged instead of decoding garbage (a_compressed_group_without_its_head_fails_the_read). If the server widened to frame 0, it would send frames the subscription excluded and mis-number the group's offset.

Defer the stored-size check for streamed compressed frames
When create_frame is used on a compressed group near the 32 MiB limit, this checks the frame's uncompressed declaration against the already-compressed cache before the frame is compressed. For example, a group holding about 25 MiB of incompressible slices rejects and aborts a streamed 7 MiB repetitive frame even though its DEFLATE slice is tiny and both the final stored and inflated totals fit their respective limits; write_frame accepts the equivalent payload because it checks the actual slice size. For scratch frames, apply the stored-byte limit after compression in frame_commit and use the declaration here only for the inflated limit.

Declining. A scratch frame buffers its plain chunks until frame_commit compresses them, so while it streams the group really does hold the stored slices plus up to the declared plain size. Checking the declaration against the stored budget bounds that peak, and it fails at create_frame rather than after the producer has streamed the whole frame. write_frame differs only because it has the payload in hand and can compress before checking. The cost is a conservative refusal for a highly compressible frame opened within one frame of the 32 MiB cap, which a producer can avoid by starting a new group.
