…dling - Hold the SETUP writer when the drain trigger drops instead of FINing it, and surface only its failures to the session driver. - Report a session close or idle timeout under a control stream as itself, not a protocol violation, in Rust and JS. - Fail a presenter Auth stream as soon as a non-GOAWAY type arrives. - Read the joining FETCH stream only where GOAWAY can arrive (draft 18+). - Drop the idle STOP_SENDING poll from the legacy control writer; a write failure is still a protocol violation. - Script update answers after the update in tests, since an idle request now reads its stream. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
WalkthroughThe changes add GOAWAY-aware request-stream framing and admission handling in JavaScript and Rust. Control-stream and SETUP processing now validates stream termination and reports protocol violations. Publisher, subscriber, and AUTH flows use shared message handling for responses, withdrawal, and cancellation. The authentication renewal benchmark adds a single-route variant, and tests cover protocol handling and grant retry behavior. Priority: ➖ Normal Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to

A reordered stream can leave a gap below the next expected ID, and that gap was never processed, so the cutoff is its start when one exists. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

… kind The draft 14-16 control writer now watches for STOP_SENDING while its queue is empty, so a peer that stops it and keeps its own half open still closes the session with PROTOCOL_VIOLATION. The extra wake had made track_tail lose its group on draft 14: the publisher answered SUBSCRIBE after the test wrote group 0, leaving the frame to a joining FETCH the ended subscription refused. The test now lets the publisher answer while the track is empty. An AUTH past our draft-18 GOAWAY cutoff is answered with AUTH_ERROR carrying GOING_AWAY, since its presenter reads nothing else. Rust and JS presenters take that code as a refusal of the request, not the token, and the auth draft lists it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

A draft-18+ PUBLISH_NAMESPACE keeps reading while idle, but in JS only a detached catch saw its stream end, so the request stayed in the loop's map and the namespace was never withdrawn or offered again. The idle reader now drops the request on a FIN or reset and wakes the announce loop, which re-offers it, as Rust already does. A Rust test pins that behavior. The auth draft's changelog records GOING_AWAY as an AUTH_ERROR code. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

A draft-18+ PUBLISH_NAMESPACE whose stream ends while idle was re-offered at once in JS, so a peer that ends every advertisement it accepts drove a request stream per loop turn. Rust paced it on the shared retry timer, but that resets whenever the re-offer lands, so it never backed off either. Record each idle end as a refusal with a per-namespace wait that starts at RETRY_BASE and doubles to RETRY_MAX, cleared when another broadcast takes the path. Both regression tests check each repeated lapse waits at least twice as long. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Pass through non-session transport failures from control_stream_error.
A remote CONNECTION_CLOSE becomes Error::Session(_) and already passes through. Other transport failures become Error::Transport, which control_stream_error converts to Error::ProtocolViolation.
The session can therefore report a transport failure as a protocol violation instead of normal transport termination.

Problem
IETF request streams could treat GOAWAY as a response or cancellation, or forget a previous GOAWAY between response phases. Control FIN/reset could close cleanly, queued JavaScript duplicates could lose a drain race, and draft-18 admission continued after sending GOAWAY with a fixed cutoff.
Approach
Share per-stream GOAWAY validation across request lifetimes in Rust and JavaScript, including idle advertisements and final subscription markers. Treat control FIN/reset/STOP_SENDING as protocol violations, while a session close or idle timeout under the control stream still reports as itself. The legacy (draft 14-16) control writer watches for STOP_SENDING while idle too, not only on its next write. Freeze draft-18 admission at the smallest peer Request ID not processed (the first one a reordered stream skipped, else the next) and refuse subsequent requests and updates with GOING_AWAY. An AUTH past the cutoff gets AUTH_ERROR carrying GOING_AWAY (0x6), the only answer its presenter reads; Rust and JS presenters take it as a refusal of the request, not the token.
The SETUP writer stays open for the whole session, including when the drain trigger drops without firing, since a FIN there is now a violation the peer closes over.
The cutoff follows draft 18 section 10.4; control-stream failure follows draft 21 section 6.3. Extend the existing nightly auth benchmark with one-route renewal across session and route counts to measure idle request monitoring.
Impact
draft-lcurley-moq-authadds GOING_AWAY to the codes AUTH_ERROR carries.Decisions
Messagesand audit every caller to close (severalpoll_cancelcallers swallow errors today).poll_closedwhile idle. That extra wake madetrack_tail::a_group_after_the_end_is_deliveredlose its group on draft 14. Root cause: the publisher answered SUBSCRIBE after the test had written group 0, so SUBSCRIBE_OK's Largest Object left the group's only frame to the joining FETCH, which the publisher refused because the track's end had already ended the subscription. A test ordering assumption, not a moq-net bug. (Maintainer, round 3.)Alternatives
Per-handler GOAWAY state loses duplicate detection at phase transitions. Polling every idle advertisement would add a table scan; the implementation uses the existing keyed wake queue. Reissuing a request a GOAWAY interrupted (redirect retry/backoff) is deferred and has no quest yet; drain cleanup is its own quest.
Validation
just checkpasses on the final head.just test interop --allpasses.Follow-ups
advertise_namespacepropagates it with?). This predates this PR; JS drops just that request.endedpromise every owner races, so no request reader can be detached again. Today none is.(Written by Claude Opus 5.5)
