fix(net)!: ranges refuse what the wire drops - #6519
Range anchors a wire drops fail loud. A track copy received over a session resolved a relative or time anchor against whatever groups it happened to hold. Reproduced with a new integration test (rs/moq-net/tests/integration/range_anchors.rs), groups 0..4 at 1 s each, read ascending with an unbounded budget, before the fix:

lite-07 reads like the held track: its SUBSCRIBE_START reports the largest, its frames carry media time, and its start resolves from the budget, so the copy resolves every anchor as the publisher would (lite::Version::resolves_anchors). Every other wire now refuses, per received copy: track::Producer::received marks the copy, and the lite-07 session also marks it anchored (track::Producer::anchored, crate-private). An unanchored received copy refuses, through its cursor's window, any range that is not absolute or the live/oldest start the wire spells with no floor (Range::is_wire), with Error::Unsupported, at both ends. A front's reader surfaces the serving copy's refusal instead of waiting on a copy the front never replaces; a replaced copy that refuses only ends itself, so a retained older-wire copy never fails a range the lite-07 copy serving now resolves. The lite and IETF sessions mark their copy before committing it, so no reader resolves one in between. The test now asserts this whole table: the held track and lite-07-wip read the held results, the rest refuse, and every wire still reads the live and oldest starts.
Subscriber::floor and next_in_range honor set_groups. Both ignored the local floor, so a sequential reader (moq-mux container, moq-archive ordered) could wait on groups the cursor never yields. Reproduced and covered by floor_honors_set_groups.
Bindings take subscription max delay as an optional.MoqSubscription.max_delay_us: Option<u64> (None keeps moq-net's default), moq_subscription.max_delay_present, and the Python, Go, Kotlin, Swift, and Dart wrappers follow. Media decoder outputs already took it optional and are untouched (left to api-audit/media-trim).
Dropped: removing the (1 << 53) - 1 ms budget in rs/moq-hls/src/export/history.rs; moq-dev/moq#6517 deletes HLS history, which removes it.
Public API and wire impact
moq-net: behavior only. A track copy received over lite-06 or earlier, or any moq-transport version, refuses relative/time anchors (other than Range::live/Range::oldest) with Error::Unsupported on read; lite-07 copies resolve them. Subscriber::floor/next_in_range return at least the set_groups start. No signature changes; track::Producer::anchored is crate-private.
moq-ffi: MoqSubscription.max_delay_us is Option<u64> (breaking).
Raw bindings: Go MoqSubscription.MaxDelayUs *uint64, Kotlin/Swift maxDelayUs optional, C++ moq::Subscription::max_delay_usstd::optional<uint64_t> (breaking).
How to migrate (moved here from each package's MIGRATE.md, which PRs no longer write since moq-dev/moq#6610):
Every package (moq-net, moq-ffi, moq-c, and all wrappers), older-wire ranges: a track received over moq-lite-06 or earlier, or any moq-transport version, used to resolve a relative or time range anchor against the groups it happened to hold, which silently read from the live edge or the wrong groups; reading it now fails with an unsupported error (Error::Unsupported in moq-net). This covers a relative start other than the live (0) and oldest starts, a time start, and a relative or time end. A track received over moq-lite-07 resolves them as its publisher would. Ask for absolute groups over those wires, or resolve the anchor where the track is published.
moq-net, Subscriber::floor and next_in_range: both now return at least the start set by Subscriber::set_groups, so a reader waiting on each group in sequence no longer waits on groups the local floor withholds. Drop any max against your own set_groups start.
Subscription max delay is optional. An unset value keeps moq-net's default of zero, which skips a superseded group at once; explicit values are unchanged, and code reading one back handles the empty case.
moq-ffi: MoqSubscription.max_delay_us is Option<u64>; wrap an explicit value in Some.
moq-c: moq_subscription.max_delay_us is read only when the new max_delay_present is true (a zeroed struct keeps the default); set max_delay_present = true wherever you set a nonzero max_delay_us.
cpp/moq: moq::Subscription::max_delay_us is std::optional<uint64_t>; check has_value() when reading it.
py/moq-ffi: MoqSubscription.max_delay_us is int | None. py/moq-rs: Subscription.max_delay is timedelta | None.
go/ffi: MoqSubscription.MaxDelayUs is *uint64; point it at the value you set before and regenerate the bindings for the changed checksums. go/wrapper: Subscription.MaxDelay is *time.Duration.
kt/moq-ffi: MoqSubscription.maxDelayUs is ULong?. kt/moq: Subscription.maxDelayUs is ULong? and Subscription.maxDelay is Duration?.
swift/ffi: MoqSubscription.maxDelayUs is UInt64?. swift: Subscription.maxDelayUs is UInt64?.
dart/moq_ffi: MoqSubscription.maxDelayUs is int?. dart/moq: Subscription.maxDelayUs is int? and Subscription.maxDelay is Duration?.
doc/concept/moq-lite.md states the per-wire refusal, and quest/m1/subscribe-ranges/lite.md records that each older-wire mapping it adds lifts that wire's refusal for that anchor.
Decisions
moq-hls "unset" budget.
✅ (a) Leave it; moq-dev/moq#6517 (api-audit/media-trim) deletes HLS history, which removes it.
(b) Saturate lite's max-delay encoding at 2^53 - 1 ms so callers pass Duration::MAX.
(c) Make Subscription::max_delay an Option<Duration> in moq-net.
Which anchors a received copy refuses.
(a) Every relative/time anchor on every received copy, uniformly.
✅ (b) Per wire: only the anchors (starts and ends) its session's version can't carry. lite-07-wip keeps everything it carries; older wires refuse.
Bindings' max_delay = None.
✅ moq-net's default (zero), like every other optional binding knob.
Publisher retention, which would flip every binding subscription's default from live to replay.
Checks
Re-merged main through 8579e9cd1c after the queue dropped this PR on a conflict (MIGRATE.md and the api-audit quest README only; every MIGRATE.md takes main's version and the notes moved to the Impact section above). At the 4ccf05aac6 merge, just check and just test interop --all (172 checks) pass; the final merge adds only moq-dev/moq#6527 (moq-mux, untouched here), after which quest check passes.
just check: passed after merging main (Swift skipped locally, no toolchain); markdown lint rerun after the last MIGRATE-only commit.
just test interop --all: passed.
cargo nextest run -p moq-net --features async resume range_anchors: passed, including only_the_serving_copy_refuses_an_anchor (fails without the replaced-copy fix).
After merging main three times (MIGRATE union, floor doc combined with moq-dev/moq#6278's wording), just check and just test interop --all passed on the final head. One earlier interop run hit the known rust -> js-native-node timestamp gap (quest/m1/test-flakes-2/interop-timestamp-gap.md) and passed on rerun.
A track received over a session resolved a relative or time anchor against
the groups it happened to hold, since no wire carries one upstream: it read
from the live edge or the wrong groups. Such a copy now refuses them with
Error::Unsupported, keeping the live and oldest starts the wire does carry.
Subscriber::floor and next_in_range honor set_groups, and the bindings take
the subscription max delay as an optional.

Implementation pushed; kept as a draft for the three decisions in the description (moq-hls "unset" budget, refusing relative/time ends, binding None meaning moq-net's default). just check and just test interop --all pass.
A lite-07 copy learns the largest and media time and asks for everything the
budget allows, so it resolves relative and time anchors as its publisher
would. Only copies received over lite-06 or earlier, or moq-transport, refuse
them. The per-wire table in range_anchors.rs now covers both ends and the
held track.

The change makes subscription maximum delay optional across the C interface, FFI, and language bindings. It also updates range-anchor handling: moq-lite-07 copies resolve anchors, while older moq-lite and moq-transport copies refuse unsupported anchors. Subscriber floor calculations and route-change refusal handling also change.

Merging. Range anchors now resolve over lite-07 and still refuse on older wires, as the maintainer chose. CI is green, the current head has a non-Grok review, and quest check passes against main.
A front's reader returned the first copy's refusal, so a retained copy from an
older wire failed a range the lite-07 copy serving now resolves. A replaced
copy that refuses now ends; only the serving copy's refusal fails the read.
Also drops the `// private:` mark main retired.

Merging. Merged main three times (MIGRATE entries kept from both sides, the floor doc combined with moq-dev/moq#6278), confirmed main has not replanned quest/m1/api-audit/ranges-wire.md, and fixed the Codex finding: a replaced copy that refuses the reader's ranges now ends itself, and only the serving copy's refusal fails the read. Also dropped the // private: mark main retired. just check and just test interop --all pass on this head, quest check passes against main, and Codex approved it.
Check range refusal before taking a reserved group.
If a received copy reserves a group and then its subscription changes to an unsupported anchor, Cursor::sync sets filter.refused but keeps peeked. This shortcut returns the reserved group instead of Error::Unsupported. The ordered shortcut at Lines 6380-6383 has the same behavior. Check the refusal before either shortcut, or invalidate the reservation when the ranges change.

Correct the older-wire anchor guidance.
This says older wires refuse every anchor except live and default starts. Absolute starts remain supported, and Range::oldest() is supported on every tested wire (rs/moq-net/tests/integration/range_anchors.rs, Lines 152-164). Name the unsupported relative and time anchors instead. Identify lite-07 as the opt-in moq-lite-07-wip version when stating its support. As per coding guidelines, “State a claim's conditions with it: opt-in or experimental versions, and the paths it does not cover.”

State that absolute ranges remain supported.
This description says older wires refuse every range except Range::live and Range::oldest. Range::is_wire also accepts absolute starts and absolute ends. Name the unsupported relative and time anchors instead, so readers do not avoid supported absolute ranges.
